What originated as an alternative rock ballad has received a heavy remix treatment from one of the most versatile up-and-comers around. Graves‘ ‘Less Permanent‘ from his Far From Here EP was among the couple of tracks from the project that blurred the lines between electronic music and rock. Toronto-based IKYGUY has tapped this underlying gritty undertone and exploited it to new limits, creating an emotional yet bass-driven rework.
The only elements left intact from the original are EZI’s poignant vocals, driving the introduction gradually to a climax of energy. As the minute-mark hits, all musical familiarity with Graves’ piece is lost, as IKYGUY unleashes rugged bass in a melodic dubstep-leaning drop.
