camoufly Rolls Out His “Not Quite Kawaii” Series With ‘San Marcos’ Remix

by Alessio Anesi

Ladies and gentlemens, please take your seats and get ready to rumble because it’s time for round two of camoufly versus Brochampton. After his extra smooth take of ‘Sugar, released back in September, the Ä collective affiliated producer has put his spin on the 2018 release ‘San Marcos.’ Don’t expect a joyful song this time by the way. Camoufly has cleverly used the rap collective’s tune as a Trojan horse to smuggle into your headphones the first instalment of the “not quite kawaii” series, dedicated to the evil side of the project.

There’s no doubt about what to expect as the intro is not kawaii at all. A huge, deep, cavernous bass spreads out in the drop, bringing upon a spooky nighttime mood that has in common pretty much nothing with the original version. Evil-camoufly (let’s call him this from now on) heavily flirts with the experimental bass scene, but subdues its most iconic sounds to his very own vision. Personally I get some strong ‘Flatline‘ and ‘Babatunde‘ vibes in this track, however the illuminating mixing rearrange them in an incredibly different and refreshing formula, which has got the instant support of Hex Couguar, Jon Casey and Duke & Jones among others.

With several releases in the past months, it’s undeniable that camoufly and his alter-ego are establishing the brand as one of the most prolific and interesting remixers in the game. While waiting for news about an original, enjoy San Marcos below!
