Despite having only started a little under two years ago, Spicy Bois have now released over 140 songs and support upcoming artists heavily such as MeSo, Big City, Herbalistek, TOWERS, Smoakland and so many more. Their following has grown an incredible amount in a short time frame since we last checked in with 6k SoundCloud followers to now holding over double that with a 14k+ following and their fan group Wasabi Posse at a near 4k members. From releasing exclusive merch, to passing out Spicy Mixtapes at Electric Forest, they continue to cultivate unique experiences that gain longtime listeners.
To begin the year properly, Spicy Bois hit the ground running with a 10-track compilation Can I Get Uhhh... The project includes artists such as Cntrlla, leet, Space Wizard, Big City and ULK to name a few. Trying to find a way to describe the sound design utilized throughout is like trying to describe what happens to your mind when inside of a sensory deprivation tank. You simply just have to experience it for yourself. There is a sense of dissociation where it feels as the frequencies are permeating your mind allowing you to fully fixate on what you are hearing. Aside from the immaculate level of production, the quality of collaborations are top tier. With six out of the ten being collabs, it was crazy to hear how well they all worked together as if the sounds were meant to meet one another. s e s h and leet’s ‘Ripple Effect’ as well as Space Wizard and Big City’s ‘This Is Not Good’ were stand out collabs for me. With ‘Ripple Effect’ having a trance like affect on me, I found it difficult to pull myself away from listening. It was like only me and that track existed during the time it was playing. ‘This Is Not Good’ caught my attention right away with the far out intro and inviting vocal samples. It drops straight into madness with the over riding percussion that sounds like a 90’s cartoon character running.
With each track conducting its own energy, this compilation is truly an audible expedition. If you don’t know who Spicy Bois are by now it’s time to get out from the rock you’re living under. Listen below and catch the free download here.
