First landing on our Focus Five segment almost a year ago today, Seattle-based AOTA has consistently impressed with his ability to weave between genres with ease. Despite this versatility, a common theme throughout his pieces is a haunting undertone that will send chills through your spine, and his upcoming work is no exception. Ahead of the release of the Deconstructor EP, which has the theme of “a system disassembling and reassembling in a new configuration, organically and synthetically,” we are stoked to premiere the first single from the project titled ‘Lexicon.’
“I wrote ‘Lexicon’ pretty early on in the writing process and, to me, it felt like a map for the other tracks. It set the mood and sonic finger print for a lot of the gooey and glitched textures used throughout the EP,” AOTA states about how ‘Lexicon’ fits within the scope of the project as a whole. These mind-warping textures can be heard right off the bat, before chaotic punches of bass and a sinister melody are quickly added to give the track direction and purpose. Building the track with ease, AOTA seamlessly flips the script into an experimental bass-laden section that only creates more intrigue as it progresses.
Barely hitting a low in energy, ‘Lexicon’ swiftly grows more monstrous and evil in the second half, with neuro basses and crunchy sound design driving the track to its conclusion. “I added a neuro bass into the second drop because, in the context of the EP, they sonically bridge the gap between synthetic and organic with their undulating movements and shifting harmonics. A big portion of the inspiration also came from the artwork I commissioned from a friend of mine. He’s super talented and really fun to work with. His Instagram account is Loudsqueak, I highly recommend checking out his work, the guy is on another level,” AOTA adds. A chilling introduction to the forthcoming Deconstructor EP, ‘Lexicon’ is AOTA at his best. Don’t miss it below.
