Samsin Debuts Ethereal ‘Afterlight’ EP

by Jeremy Stern

After years of sharpening his sound, the young samsin has blessed us with his debut EP suitably titled Afterlight. Finding a home as the first non-great dane release on his label, ADBC Records, this record explores a personable nook within his perpetually evolving sound. Having followed the producer fine-tuning his craftsmanship in future beats and trap for some time now, you can take it from us when we say that this one hits different.

If you could see sound, this EP would look like glimmering stars illuminating the night sky. Particularly evident in tunes like ‘tundra’ and ‘goodbye,’ the project reveals alluring, melodic elements tastefully woven into the quintessential samsin flow driven by engrossing 808s. Others such as ’12;59′ and ‘monday’ lean into the wavy, shimmery side of samsin’s style, while ‘goodmorning (interlude)’ takes the cake as the grooviest jazzy bump of the group. Expressive of ethereal reverberations and indistinguishable heat, this collection of tracks wonderfully highlights the growth in samsin’s musical journey. While we continue to enjoy the imaginative Afterlight, we can’t help but wonder what’s next in store for the young groove master.
