Wroc’s ‘Tarang’ Is An Haunting Bass Adventure

by Alessio Anesi

Finally, after what seemed years, this past weekend I was able to enjoy a proper SoundCloud session. What do I mean by proper SoundCloud session? The concept is simple: I open my feed, I pick the first song that I like and I go down the rabbit hole, jumping from track to track in the “Related” section. I think we all agree that this endless vortex that sucks us down is what makes Soundlcoud and Youtube still the best platforms when it comes to music discovery, if you don’t agree, this article is here to prove it.

Before moving forward, don’t ask me how. The journey that led me to this newborn Indian bass label is a mystery even for myself. I just remember going through thook‘s brand new music and super weird Griztronic bootlegs.

But hey, what matters in the end? The quality of the track of course, and ‘Tarang’ has nothing to envy to anyone. First of all it is introduced in the catchiest way possible: a menacing atmosphere halfway between a Halloween mixtape, and horror movie soundtrack (Tubular Bells anyone) and Nancy Sinatra’s ‘Bang Bang’ intro, it’s not something that you can here everyday. Then, when everything seems intimidating but just harmless, ‘Tarang’ hits hard with a combination of deep subs and spooky sounds that frame a sitar-like sample. It alone is responsable of creating a further dose of ghoulish vibe to the whole composition. The result is something that maybe at first listen you might find odd, but soon it will bewitch you, letting you craving from more bass.
