Ookay & Hydraulix Break The Servers With ‘Connection Error’

by Alex Bell

Two of the longest-running taste-makers in the trap game, Ookay and Hydraulix, have had a consistent knack for making diverse, approachable productions that garner massive praise from a wide audience. Ookay’s ‘Thief‘, released 4 years ago, has accrued over 86 million collective streams between SoundCloud and Spotify, and is arguably one of the most timeless bangers of the past decade. Hydraulix has always kept his fans guessing with what he’s going to release next genre-wise, and he continues this trend with his latest release with Ookay, titled ‘Poor Connection’ out on Wakaan.

Landing on the heavier side of the production scale, ‘Poor Connection’ is a massive genre-defying banger that settles down on the line between hybrid trap and dubstep. Using the old AOL start up error signal as a looped sample creates a nostalgic attitude, while simultaneously lulling you into a sense of security before you’re obliterated by futuristic bass lines. Don’t be fooled though, the only thing that will have poor connection is your consciousness to your body as you’re fiercely taken hold by the vibrations. Left and right panning is used much to your ears’ delight, creating a full-on listening experience in your headphones. The sound design is superb, with many different samples used within to keep you on your toes. The final drop is even trappier, creating this gritty, slowed beat that you can’t help getting low to. To be honest, this collaboration was a complete surprise, but a pleasant one nonetheless. Check out ‘Poor Connection’ below, and grab the free download here!
