LA Native BINKS is no stranger to the trap game. Rewind to 2014, a simpler time where BINKS is one-half of the now infamous EDM trap duo, Pyramid Juke. Since then, the beat wizard has signed with trap legend Mayhem on his label SKRONG and has become one of the most relevant names on the roster. Starting in 2016 with his debut ep Frequencies, BINKS has constantly leveled up his production methods. Recently, the seasoned veteran teamed up with fellow label member Pryzms to give us two hard-hitting trap tracks with an emphasis on heavy-808s and hypnotizing melodic loops, but this time BINKS give us his take of Mayhem & Armanni Reign’s collaboration ’38 Special.’
Right from the start, we realize that the tone of this remix is slightly more menacing than the original. With brooding synths growling throughout the intro and an accelerando occurring within the percussion, the intro wonderfully builds suspense into the first drop section. During which, the emphasis placed on these large 808s combined with Armanni Reign’s unparalleled flow. Around two minutes, all vocals are dropped out and substituted with an almost brand new beat, with a heavy emphasis on the groove and melodies located within the percussion elements.
