Guest Mix + Interview – Noizon

by Alex Bell

Dark, deviously heavy, and dominating are all valid descriptors of the beats served up on a silver platter by Reno, Nevada’s Brandon Sedano, also known as Noizon. This youthful artist sports a sound that is assuredly not fit for the pee-wee leagues, netting support from some of the most successful taste-makers in the business of malicious music. With a hearty helping of unreleased tunage sitting neatly under his belt, he aims to take 2020 by firestorm, racking up either fans or bodies along the way. Riding this tidal wave of hype, he’s sat down to a do an interview to give us a glimpse into his immensely creative mind, while also serving up a spicy guest mix with several ID’s from himself and friends. If quarantine has you cooped up and angry, this mix is right up your alley. Check out both for yourself below!

Describe yourself in 10 words or less

Determined, Open-minded, Unique.

Tell us about your musical background up to this point!

I played piano when I was a kid for a couple years, I never got too good. But I heard electronic music for the first time in like 5th or 6th grade and I fell in love with it. I started beatboxing, well at least trying to beatbox dubstep and was pretty bad at first. I didn’t even know what beatboxing was until my brother heard me and said I should keep on doing it. I ended up getting pretty good at that and would go to open mics around my hometown and did a couple talent shows. From there that’s when I wanted to start making music, originally to record my beatboxing and make it into a beat. I haven’t done that yet but it’s still something I would love to do and know I will do in the future. I didn’t start taking music seriously until around 2 and a half years ago. And I haven’t slowed down since.

I actually have fans that come out to shows to listen to me. I don’t have to try and make a set to please the crowd as much. I can play my own tunes and know that people will love it!

What’s the scene like in Reno? How have you grown because of it?

The scene in Reno has definitely grown A LOT, especially because electronic music is blowing up in general. From Marshmello, and Subtronics and Griz making Griztronics, to Svdden Death, these fools have helped the scene get recognized significantly in recent years. In Reno I can tell there are SO many new people coming into the scene because of these people that are blowing up electronic music. 3 years ago all you could really play in Reno was trap or chill dubstep, because the Lost Dogz and Subdocta are so close to Reno or lived in Reno and they kind of made an impact on what music was acceptable in the clubs. Now you can play whatever you want and there is a crowd for it and I love seeing that. I have grown because now I feel like I have made a name for myself in Reno, so I actually have fans that come out to shows to listen to me. I don’t have to try and make a set to please the crowd as much. I can play my own tunes and know that people will love it!

How did you get connected with The Missing Links, and what do they mean to you?

Cancel and I kind of made The Missing Links together. Mike (Cancel) had this idea to start a collective and my brother has a huge outlet because he is the founder of West Coast Ravers and that kind of kick-started The Missing Links. He got us Missing Links Takeovers in Reno and that really helped us. The Missing Links is like a family to me and the crazy part is that the only people that grew up in Reno are Mike (Cancel), Austin (Skudd), Brandon (Howker) and I. Detrix, Cvptvgon, Jonnie Boi, and Wisdom all came from different states and it kind of just came together that we all live in Reno now. Whether it was for school, jobs or wanting to move across the country to be in the same city as the crew. I am beyond happy to be a part of The Missing Links.

Who were you biggest musical inspirations that got you into producing? Both electronic and non electronic?

Zeds Dead, 100%. Zeds Dead is still one of my biggest inspirations, they are who made me fall in love with electronic music and I will never forget that. My biggest inspirations now are probably Leotrix, OG Nixin and Moody Good. Those fools are on something else and that’s how I want to be too.

Honestly one of the craziest feelings I’ve ever had to this day. It was like my heart dropped but in the best way possible.

I saw a video of Subtronics playing out ‘Countdown’ with Yungknwn aka Cancel on one of his livestreams and giving feedback, what was it like to see him practically gushing over one of your tracks?

Honestly one of the craziest feelings I’ve ever had to this day. It was like my heart dropped but in the best way possible. Because of Subtronics I am where I am as a producer today. Mike and I both had 124 followers and that probably spiked to 1000 in a couple months. I owe the start of my career to him. I will forever be grateful.

You recently had a release with Secret Recipe on Bassrush! How did you get connected with both of them?

Secret Recipe has been the homie since my first release on Wormhole Music Group; Ritual. He always had so much faith in me, from day one I could tell he wanted to help me get big. And that doesn’t go for me that goes for a lot of the people that got releases on Wormhole. Secret Recipe is all around a great person and wants to help the scene come up together and that is hard to find in a lot of people.

Bassrush all happened because Secret Recipe, his manager had the connect and that’s how that came to be. I was very blessed to be a part of that release. Secret Recipe and I were sitting on that for over a year and I am so happy to see that out now.

It’s cool to see all these big producers just in their element in their home rather than seeing them at a show. It’s just a whole different energy. I feel like you get to know the person a little more.

What are some things you’re doing currently to stay sane during these crazy times?

I am just quarantined with my family right now, spending time with them. Trying to write as much music as possible. Honestly I feel like not too much has changed other than having to be careful in public places, washing your hands a SHIT ton and there aren’t any concerts other than livestreams and those have actually been amazing to watch. It’s cool to see all these big producers just in their element in their home rather than seeing them at a show. It’s just a whole different energy. I feel like you get to know the person a little more.

Walk us through what you prepared for your blazing guest mix for us today!

I put as much released and unreleased music I could in less than an hour, I didn’t put in 5 originals that I would have liked to put in there which I’m kind of sad about but I worked my ass off to get all the others in there. I just feel like this guest mix needed to represent me and my style and I needed to show off not only my music but my djing capability. I tried to push my boundaries with how I was mixing to try and make it an experience for the listeners. And I hope they can tell I put my all into it.
