Good Times Ahead Confirm Why They Are Seriously ‘So Good’ At Revolutionizing Multiple Genres [Interview]

by Alshaan Kassam

While many of us are wholeheartedly missing live shows and music festivals, just remember there are always Good Times Ahead when this power-duo keeps us sane by consistently pioneering the crossover space between electronic and Latin genres. Mind you with these genre-defying producers, Good Times Ahead are consistently on the next wave when it comes down to exploring the realms of house, moombahton, trap, and even hip-hop, if there is a track to make you lose full control while jamming your heart out, there is a high probability it was produced by Julio Mejia and Matt Toth. Recently throwing down at Insomniac’s Park ‘N Rave series, you already know it is going down on the dance floor with both classic and fresh elements in full force.

Whether it be drawing the crowd in with a groovy summer masterpiece such as ‘Let Go’ with Tony Romera or fueling us up with those slow-tempo filthy trap signatures in ‘FK IT,’ if their versatile production abilities are not enough to prove these guys are the real game-changers in the music scene, we got another special treat for you. Proving that they are seriously ‘So Good’ at seamlessly experimenting and shifting genres in their most recent energizing single on Monstercat, Good Times Ahead are kicking off to a strong start as we approach the summer season filled with all the right vibes.

Making you feel alive no matter what time of the day it is, euphoric vocals infused with Good Times Ahead’s upbeat melodies, and a stable pulsating bassline keep us in the zone on this one. Getting a bit trippier on the beat, a gruesome build-up of wonky frequencies and snaring synths tease their listeners with an unanticipated build-up. Feeling insanely good throughout the track, Good Times Ahead goes in full experimentation mode as glitches of madness and synth stab slides are the defining features as they incorporate a blog house feel to the track. Hiding more tricks up their sleeve, the pulsating bassline intertwined with those flawless fast-tempo switch-ups, craft an unstoppable force to keep you grooving while constantly in awe as you enter another dimension full of mind-blowing surprises.

“We grew up being heavily influenced by the Blog House / Electro House days and wanted to try and bring some of that feeling back. We also wanted to start incorporating a lot more trippy & experimental sounds to have certain weird moments in our sets and we’re so happy with the balance of groove and energy in this one! We’ve had such great feedback from our peers. We can’t wait until the clubs open back up to play this one live!” – Good Times Ahead

Thanks for taking the time to connect with us. Firstly, how are you guys? How have you both been coping with the pandemic?

Of course, thanks for having us. We have been doing the best we can. As with everyone, this is all getting a bit tiring to do for over a year, but we have been staying positive and trying to channel as much of that energy into doing what we do best which is making music.

We actually got inspired from Fisher’s amazing bassline tracks from a couple of years back and thought it would be so cool to make a proper bassline but with some electro/fidget elements to it.

Your new single out on Monstercat is seriously “So Good!” Can you break down the process of creating this hard-hitting, yet groovy track. What inspired you both on crafting this eclectic house anthem?

Thanks!! Yeah, it has been a few years in the making. We actually got inspired from Fisher’s amazing bassline tracks from a couple of years back and thought it would be so cool to make a proper bassline but with some electro/fidget elements to it. We were really going for an extremely raw sound and we are so happy with it! Can’t wait to play it out even more.

We wanted to have a home to curate a sound that we love so much – Latin Dance Music. These tracks always bring so much energy to so many sets but can be difficult to find for a lot of people.

Just before the pandemic, you guys launched your record label Good Times Bad Times, talk to us about your motive and mission behind the new label?

We wanted to have a home to curate a sound that we love so much – Latin Dance Music. These tracks always bring so much energy to so many sets but can be difficult to find for a lot of people. We are still growing it little by little and have been so proud of the records that have come out so far. There have been a lot of great up-and-coming artists that we have been able to work with.

We could not be more excited to get back to playing in-person shows. As long as everyone is safe and especially vaccinated, I think we all need to get back to living a somewhat normal life, which means normal parties!

The return of live events is looking closer and closer, but how do you guys feel about it personally? Have you guys kept any special tracks to reveal during a live setting or throw it all down during your virtual FMUF series and live streams?

We could not be more excited to get back to playing in-person shows. As long as everyone is safe and especially vaccinated, I think we all need to get back to living a somewhat normal life, which means normal parties! So many people are stressed out, so I think it is necessary to go out and have fun, responsibly of course. We have been working on a ton of tracks and cannot wait to play them all live!

Lastly, what do you guys have planned for the rest of 2021?

We are working on a big project but there is still a lot of planning to do so I don’t want to spoil anything yet but let’s just say we know our fans will really love it. Keep your eyes on our socials and check out our FMUFriday streams!
