Nvctve Displays Evolution In Sound With ‘Malignant’ EP

by Steph Contant

From landing in our Focus Five segment almost two years ago, to seeing them evolve into an underground force in the bass scene, Nvctve has been hard at work developing their craft – all leading up to today. June 25th marks the release of the Massachusetts-based producer’s debut EP titled Malignant, and as the name suggests, it is filled with vicious flavours of bass monstrosities.

Spanning five tracks and almost twenty minutes, the Malignant EP is clear-cut evidence of Nvctve’s dedication over the last few years, with a quality project from start to finish balancing out the artist’s rather sporadic release schedule over the last few months. Nonetheless, Malignant is Nvctve at their best. Every track is sinister in theme, but each offers something unique to the ensemble, collectively forming a well-rounded bass project that has no shortage of stylistic influences. Standouts include the hypnotizing heater ‘Shroud’ as well as the garage-leaning ‘Delusion,’ but we highly recommend a few listens through the collection for a totally unbiased opinion.

I’m not gonna be slowing down after this EP btw. I got a LOT of shit that I’m gonna release this year regardless of whether or not stuff goes as planned,” says Nvctve. If the future sounds anything like the Malignant EP, strap in.
