At the top of the year, WHIPPED CREAM added to her already explosive career trajectory by announcing she would be performing at Coachella this coming April. The first time I caught her live was in 2018 in Philadelphia’s NYE festival, Hijinx, and since then she’s seriously blown up, securing slots at some of the biggest festival stages including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and EDC.
She says, “I went into making music for the love of music and the hopes to bring a new sound/energy/movement to earth that will inspire the world and change. I wanted to SHARE a body of work to the world that was so out there, showcasing as a politely written love letter XOXO to anyone who has chosen to misunderstand, devalue, or not hear me.” And not only does she inspire women all over the world, but she also utilizes her platform to bring on diverse talent with their own stores to tell. In ‘Hold Up,’ WHIPPED CREAM teams up with Jersey Club queen UNIIQU3, trans icon Big Freedia, and one of the scene’s brightest stars, Moore Kismet.
WHIPPED CREAM continues, “I feel super humbled and honored to have been able to bring such inspiring energetic creative beings onto the record. Big Freedia, Moore Kismet and Uniiqu3. Each message they left on the record, truly made the record the anthem I feel it is. In a world we are told to be ourselves constantly we sure have to fight to do just that.”
‘Hold Up’ is unapologetically in-your-face, which you could also say about each of the artists. Boasting their “black sheep” standing in the world, each artist displays a level of grandiose confidence that exudes through the track. I just couldn’t help but feel good about myself while listening to it! Packed with laser-like synths, dynamic drums, and poignant words about being unabashedly yourself, ‘Hold Up’ is the kick-in-the-ass anthem we needed for those times we could use a boost.
