Austrian-based Mo Vibez is a true SoundCloud OG. With an unreal talent for sound design redolent of Evil Needle, Mr. Carmack, Josh Pan, and other beatmaker legends, Mo Vibez has carved himself a lane over the years with a healthy heap of independent releases and collaborations alike. His discography ranges from introspective, downtempo beats to the most heavy-hitting trap anthems; it’s impossible to pigeon-hole this eclectic producer into any one genre.
It’s rare that I hear a Mo Vibez track that doesn’t leave me floored on the first listen. The man’s relentless pursuit of unique and pioneering sounds never gets old, and for all his releases, the quality of his output never stutters. Some people really just have that “prodigy” feel to their art and Mo Vibez is no exception. That said, I’m ecstatic to have this luminary producer join us for this week’s guest mix. Let’s get into it!
Welcome! What kind of “vibez” can we expect to hear from your guest mix?
I really tried to showcase my different styles for this mix. Also every track is produced by me and a lot of them aren’t even out yet. I hope you guys enjoy.

You have a lot of single releases outside of your Vibeout Club series. Is there something in particular you had in mind when choosing what tracks to include on those albums instead of dropping them individually?
I try to find tracks with similar styles or moods to combine. I’m also an over-thinker with that so sometimes it’s just better to go by gut feeling and just put music out.
Do you incorporate any live instrumentation into your music? If so, what instruments do you play?
I started my musical journey by playing drums and guitar as a kid. I recorded a lot of instruments and vocals over the years. But lately I’m more on the computer side sampling and trying to come up with creative sounds and rhythms.
What’s the music scene like around you in Austria? Do you get many opportunities to play live sets?
I’m not super aware to be honest. I know in the bigger cities, there is definitely a crowd for drum and bass and dubstep/bass music. And a decent club and festival scene. I used to play a bunch of shows in Vienna but I haven’t in a while. But I’m stoked to play more shows again this year.
What inspired you to start producing music?
I discovered Skrillex and Dubstep around 2012 and really wanted to know how to make those crazy sounds and produce in general Me and my good friend Siki messed around with FL Studio and did our first footsteps. About a year later I switched to Ableton bc I read somewhere that Skrillex uses it haha. I just started making beats and it became an almost daily thing. Around 2015 I discovered Mr. Carmack and he changed my perspective on production quite a bit. So I started Mo Vibez and explored more into Trap/Bass music directions. I try to make music that makes me feel something special. And I hope people can feel that when they hear it.

Is there anything you look for when deciding to collaborate with another producer, or are you open to working with just about anyone?

What kind of value do you see in creating sample packs? Do you ever worry that doing so might undermine the uniqueness of your personal style?
I got asked how I process my drums and synths a lot and originally put out one sample pack. I received very good feedback so I kept it going from there. I’m collecting my favourite sounds for myself and give people the chance to use them if they like to and it’s a good way to support my work.

How did you come up with the name “Mo Vibez?”
My first name is Muhammed Jacob and people called me Mo a lot. I also produce a lot of different genres, styles & vibes so I came up with the name Mo (more) Vibez.
You’re one of many artists that have begun to use Patreon’s subscription service to share your beats and workflow. Have you seen a lot of success from this? Do you think it’s a better format than, say, Bandcamp?
It’s really fun to teach Ableton, sound design ideas and share unreleased tracks with my supporters. It’s a cool platform and again another good way to directly support me and get goodies in return.
