Take a Trip to San Andreas with Just A Tune’s ‘Grove St.’

by FUXWITHIT

Whenever Just A Gent puts out a ‘flip’ of a song under his moniker, Just A Tune, it gets a whole new sense of life breathed into it. He’s touched on classics such as Kid Cudi‘s ‘Day N Nite‘ and ‘Killing in the Name Of‘ by Rage Against the Machine – and now, he’s taking us on a one-way trip to San Andreas with his latest, ‘Grove St.’

The tune opens with the game’s main character, CJ, reciting his iconic line: “Grove Street – home. At least it was, before I fucked everything up.” It’s immediately followed by the opening theme to the game, which has a lo-fi feel to it, bolstering its throwback essence. After 30 seconds of taking it back to 2004 (or 1992, depending on how you look at it), the tune launches into a heavy, funky, glitchy behemoth, that’ll have you bouncing like a lowrider throughout. In fact, going in a glitch-hop-inspired direction is a step away from his general “Lovetrap”/”Lovestep” sound, that some people are commenting/proclaiming his likeness to KOAN Sound.

There’s also some samples of CJ and Big Smoke scattered throughout, for the added dash of the ‘Grove St. Families‘ vibe. Don’t be surprised if you want to whip out your PS2 because of this tune! Grab the download if you’re feeling the nostalgia, the funk, or both.
