Los Angeles’s Chris Sullivant, fondly known by his Sully stage name, has been a consistently reoccurring character among some of the most progressive up-and-comers in the industry as of late. Kicking off his new branding with the bodacious banger ‘Frequency Shift‘, he garnered massive amounts of positive attention throughout 2019. His fun, energetic production style was truly addicting for bass music fans from all over, tingling the brain and igniting dance floors across the country. Seemingly not slowing down for even a second, he swiftly followed up with his monstrous debut Break The Floor EP. Last year, we got served up a hearty helping of ‘Duck Hummus‘ and the saucy ‘Frequency Shift VIP‘, which both perfectly showcased just how far he’d come in such a short amount of time. Now, we’re happy to announce that we have the great pleasure of premiering his latest audible delicacy ‘Right About Now’ featuring Isaac Castor, out now via Wakaan.

Immediately flaunting a sexy hip-hop-centric beat that’s heavy on the vibes but light on the ears, Castor’s vocals turn the sexiness and swag meter in ‘Right About Now’ up to 11, engorging the ego of everyone entranced by the sensual frequencies. Once maximum hype levels have been achieved, you’re assaulted by crispy clean speaker purrs, highlighting the pristine prowess of these youthful creators. Wilding-out is the only thing on the menu, and Sully is the waiter, eagerly awaiting for you to make the right choice to bump ‘Right About Now’ compulsively to get your fix on. Attaining equal parts bop status and instant party starter, this track will be a late-night slammer for the entire summer as live music makes its eagerly anticipated resurgence back into normalcy. With this being Sully’s first release of 2021, fans can only wait with bated breath for what he has next up his sleeve, but for now check out ‘Right About Now’ in all its glory for yourself below!

As May draws to a close it’s that time for us to round up our five favourite finds of the month. This month we’ve got two very distinct takes on DnB, a producer disregarding genre lines, some killer West coast bass, and an under-radar talent crafting vibrant future beats. There’s a little something for everyone, so dive in and get familiar.

Athena

“D&B producer captivated by the deep and soulful”. Such a simple and straightforward description but, at the same time, so perfect. It’s no coincidence that Athena chose these exact words to define her project. Her Drum&Bass in fact enchants with its essentiality (not to be confused with banality), for its ability to unleash the most intimate emotions in a direct way, immediately touching the right strings. Although it may be argued that the choice of sounds is not the most original in these first releases (she herself stated “I’m still trying to really find my sound”), I find that in her tracks all the present elements are exploited to the maximum of their potential and placed in a role that seems to be theirs by nature. After all, if with just a few tracks in her catalog this UK producer has already captured the attention of outlets such as UKF, Drum&Bass Arena, Shogun Audio, Goldfat Records, and now FUXWITHIT, there must be a reason, don’t you think?

Codaclef

There’s something special about a well-executed flip. The familiarity of the original fused with a fresh direction can be pure magic. I recently experienced this magic as I stumbled across Codaclef‘s simply titled ‘Kendrick Flip.’ Taking the iconic vocals from Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Humble’ the producer builds a wavy, colourful and effervescent sound pallete that turns the track into a stunning future beat bop. If you’re feeling the vibe, ‘Cardi Flip’ needs to be the next up on your list. Reworking ‘ I Like It’ with similar tact, this one is bouncy, addictive, and immaculate. Proving his talent goes beyond just flips ‘Float’ will have you drifting on a cloud of serene seratonin-raising grooves. Birmingham, England’s Codaclef is here to brighten your life one track at a time.

Deafadil

In recent years, California has become a veritable hotbed for up-and-coming west coast bass music producers. One of the standouts from this most recent wave is none other than Orange County’s Deafadil, a man swiftly stacking his awe-inspiring audible arsenal with eccentric ease. He first captured my attention when I heard his track ‘Agenticity’ on a livestream, and I was immediately drawn in from the saucy hip-hop vocal sampling and delectable wubs that acted like a high-powered magnet for my focus and a sprinkler system for my neurotransmitters. His Wake_Mecha EP included 4 sensationally spicy tracks, with ‘Hollow’ leading the charge in my humble opinion. With as many hefty heaters already firmly slotted into his ever-growing discography, I’d expect his pieces to be in constant rotation among the burgeoning live sets that are retaking the industry by storm across the country. Keep this aspiring titan of sound firmly on your radar for the foreseeable future.

Secula

As a North American who is late to finding love in drum and bass, I feel responsible for sharing as many new artists as possible within this vast umbrella of a genre. It’s never too late to get into this type of music, and as many on this side of the world are also sleeping on some greatly talented producers, what better introduction than through our Focus Five segment. Next up is Secula, an artist who, according to his social media profiles, is relatively new to the scene, but his music boasts ages worth of technical expertise. His rhythms are hypnotizing and engulfing, but never repetitive and stale. From the ominous soundscapes in ‘Focus’ to the bouncy grooves in ‘Saturday,’ Secula’s sound is diverse yet consistently impressive. It was difficult to pick two tracks for this feature as his catalogue is insanely well-rounded. With support from legends such as Noisia and releases on Neosignal and Skankandbass, the future looks bright for Secula. Don’t sleep.

Smol

No, this is not a repost of the previously featured smolspider; this is Calgary’s Adam Smol, or more simply, smol. That said, the two certainly share the same disregard for genre lines, often utilizing sounds and themes from seemingly disparate and oppositional genres. Recently, we’ve seen smol venture into the unknown with his largely fiery, four-part Headbang Society EP, Obsessions. Featuring a trio of killer collaborations, the EP is but a window into the world-building brilliance of smol. ‘Eye‘ with Omnist. aligns your chakra with the cosmos, breathing in and out with the bass as the universe expands and contracts. Slightly more sinister, ‘Flexin‘ with fellow Canadian INNOCENT further showcases smol’s sensational sound design with some soul-shaking spiciness. Finally, the EP’s title track with SPADES brings even more bass, phat fire and uneasy energy. Another variation in his productions came a few months earlier as smol hit us with a hefty house joint in ‘thicc house slanga VIP.’ But really, the best indication of smol’s tastes and tendencies, don’t shy away from DoYu Digital, his label, which features his recent dubstep/trap hybrid, ‘City Nois‘ with Deliriousninja.

Brooklyn, New York’s Sam Eckstein, also known by his Esseks moniker, is one of those bass music artists that seemingly cannot miss. Diversifying his sonic portfolio with a broad range of energies and emotions, he crafts the perfect soundtrack for any project-x party, or an introspective moment riddled with fond remembrance of tender times. Recently, ‘Ellie’s Nap‘, released as part of Gravitas’s Emergence compilation album, rests daintily in the latter category, affording temporary cognitive bliss for all enraptured in its healing frequencies. Just last month, he gifted us another audible treasure in the form of ‘Watching From a Distance‘, the debut single from his forthcoming Deadbeats body of work The Villain’s Journey. Now, he’s back once more with an 8-bit video game-inspired piece ‘Boss Lair’, filled to the brim with stylistic swagger and undeniable production prowess.

We’re going to take a quick mental journey together, alright? *Cue tell-tale flashback music and a darkened fog that slowly opens to a scene that seems both alien and distinctly familiar.* You’re in a cavernous expanse, possibly a dark cave or the seedy underbelly of a castle’s dungeon. Lit torches cast flickering shadows across the walls creating an impending sense of doom mixed with an unmistakable yearn for adventure. This is the exact feeling created by ‘Boss Lair’, as it perfectly encapsulates that electric feeling of wonder that you felt growing up as a child playing video games. Uncovering the depths of your imagination and painting a distinct mental picture as the soundwaves wash over you, you’ll truly feel like the hero of the story, capable of taking down any sized foe with grace and poise. Saucy rhythm gets the hips swaying as your body’s stimulation becomes borderline overwhelming, turning music into a full-blown virtual reality simulation, courtesy of Essek’s most gracious self. Bassy, bombastic switch-ups send this track overboard, as the game freezes and you must undertake the mission once more. The boss is waiting. Ready player one.

Coming to your airwaves straight out of Deutschland, Nøsq aims to sprinkle his own brand of speaker-thumping style into the ever-growing experimental bass music community. Dabbling in a wide range of groups persistently pushing the envelope of cutting-edge sound, he’s also 1/3 of one2six and 1/2 of Támas, consistently proving a wealth of knowledge and production prowess that’s truly invaluable to everyone in the vicinity. Achieving the rank of mad audio scientist, he offers a diverse selection in his swiftly evolving discography, like the ballsy banger ‘Snbajir‘ with Stizzla and Dayzero and ‘froggies‘. Now, he’s coming at you with his latest and greatest bass-focused monstrosity ‘The Realest,’ a swagger-satiating smorgasbord, out now on Saturate Records as part of their Saturated Vol. 7 compilation album.

Do you know that feeling where you wake up feeling like a god presiding over his subjects as you prance around the world as if it’s your personal playground? That’s precisely the feeling invoked by ‘The Realest,’ shoveling confirmation bias into your ego as you firmly believe that you’re the hottest thing since sliced bread. Delightfully mechanical melodies imbue your spirit with the ability to face any challenge head-on with a gratuitous grin firmly plastered on your mug while invincibility seems wholeheartedly on the menu. Bone-crushing speaker purrs create an oh-so-satisfying warmth around your aura, truly transforming every single listener into the biggest badass on the block. Utilizing consciousness-evoking switch-ups and cheekily-placed accentuations, ‘The Realest’ is truly that, the penultimate realest. Check it out for yourself below, and make sure to check out the rest of Saturated Vol. 7 dropping every Saturday!

When it comes to making some of the hardest slapping tracks in the bass music industry right now, Champagne Drip and G-Rex are assuredly no strangers to sitting near the top of the leaderboard. Consistently smashing all preconceived notions about their individual styles and experimental bass music as a whole, innovation and creativity front-load their freight trainlike workloads. Between G-Rex’s immaculately dark and stylistic Hallows EP, of which we had the great pleasure of premiering ‘All I Do‘ from, and Champagne Drip’s ‘Me and You‘ with Lucii and ‘After the Water‘ with Zeds Dead, it’s really no wonder that eventually these two titans of sound would pool their immense production knowledge together to create something truly spectacular. That piece in question? ‘Cold Case’ out now on Wakaan.

With an intro reminiscent of something in a monster movie right before the terrifying beast is unveiled, ‘Cold Case’ establishes dominance right out of the gates. Excitement peaks as the build brings unrelenting force like a shot of adrenaline straight to the dome, as the monstrosity nears ever closer. Once the fiend rears its ugly head though, it’s game over, as the combined technical prowess of these two masterful artists is unparalleled, with production in the drops so clean you could eat a four-course meal off it. The latter half is even more electrifying, as the fake drop that swiftly rises in tenacity sends listeners into a verifiable frenzy before they’re bombarded with even more audible delicacies. With such a smash-hit as their first collaboration, we can only hope we can hear more from these two in the near future. Check out ‘Cold Case’ for yourself below, and grab the free download here!

Do you like that deep, dirty, grimy shit? That type of shit that feels like you just took a swan dive into the primordial ooze followed by laps through a tar pit? Then leet and his fellow dub peddler Mythm are ready and willing to make your sound system quake more than two tectonic plates slipping past each other. For years now, leet has been dominating the underground community with his distinct take on west coast bass music infused with only the most delectable of wubs. At the tail-end of last year we were graced with his hello. album, a cavernous crescendo of tantalizing treats, which he then followed up last month with the immaculate Beyond the Bubble LP. Mythm has been waging his own campaign of audible domination with sensational releases like ‘Clash‘ and ‘Petrified‘ with DWAM, showcasing an uncanny ability to warp shadows into ever nearby crevice via sonic exfoliation. Now, these two subwoofer personal trainers have put their heads together for ‘Switch’, an unrelenting banger of epic proportions out now on More Creativity Records.

“It’s a heavy 140 tune that really showcases both are styles. leet hit me up with the idea, sent it over and just like that, the track wrote itself.” – Mythm

Feeling like entering the den of some massive, ungodly creature, ‘Switch’ wastes no time strapping you in for the gruesome adventure you’re about to undertake. Cheeky police sirens only add even more character and swagger to the mix, warning you of the hellaciously illegal undulations you’re about to be inebriated by. Your first introduction to the lush low-end is textbook from these two maestros, a fantastic blend of their pristine prowess for cooking up some of the darkest and most potent beats on the market. The latter drop is even more robust, with silky smooth switch-ups and only the sexiest of drums. Will the cave let you find its untold amount of treasure, or will you wander bleakly forever in the inky blackness until only madness controls your consciousness? Only time will tell, but for now, start your initial descent by streaming ‘Switch’ for yourself below!

As the veritable tidal wave of massively impressive underground bass music producers grows steadily larger, it can almost be overwhelming to the everyday audible consumer to choose which new artists to take a deep dive into. Two such artists that have consistently been pumping out ludicrous heat are none other than Las Vegas’s HEXED and the Bay Area’s Labs. Between HEXED’s sensational Wings EP released just a few months ago through the sultry Left Coast Xtracts and his silky smooth Ice Cream EP, he’s shown an uncanny knack for flambéing some of the spiciest wubs on the entire market as of late. Labs has proven time and time again that he can couple hip hop and bass with the best of them with his ‘Clout Flip‘ and ‘We Still In Dis‘ remix that have been in frequent rotation among the most die-hard low-end connoisseurs since their birth last year, solidifying his place on the underground SoundCloud radar. Now, these two maestros have joined forces for ‘Take a Trip’, a true journey through sound and space.

“Take a Trip is an experimental masterpiece drawing from hip-hop, substep and trap to create a unique hybrid style. The track evolves over time and represents a journey through sound. The message to the listener is clear: sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.” – HEXED & Labs

Starting out in earnest as any epic adventure does, ‘Take a Trip’ lures you in with a soothing melody that enraptures you in the current moment and buckles your seatbelt firmly, preparing your mind and body for the expedition you’re about to undergo. The rollercoaster slowly ticks up the track until the build accelerates, forcing your body to clench tightly as adrenaline levels spike as your nervous system is warned that you’re about to experience something truly extraordinary. The first cascade of luscious, speaker-quaking bass is reminiscent of fine wine, full-bodied and rich, but satisfyingly intoxicating. Just as you think you’re settled in, you’re met with a crescendo of more refined and masterfully clean undulations that go back and forth with the more grimy wubs to create this ever-so-pleasing back and forth movement with hip hop vocal samples sprinkled over the top, a true cherry on top of an ice cream sundae. For fans of bass music, hip hop, and music that makes you want to get up and shake your ass, ‘Take a Trip’ is a grade-A hit. Check it out for yourself below!

Fitting firmly into a genre box has never been something that Marietta, Georgia-based Todd Holler, also known by his Toadface production alias, has attempted to pull off. Fiercely paving his own sonic pathway with nothing but the utmost unique of beats, he’s garnered a ravenously loyal and dedicated following during his youthful career through the use of his wide range of swampy, gritty, girthy, and simultaneously beautiful pieces. His classic-cut ‘Seratonin Machinegun‘ has been a therapeutic tool for years, affording times of tranquil bliss and calm reflection during moments of extreme turmoil, and his collaboration ‘Ghetto Karma‘ with his brother Yheti could easily be mistaken for being a part of an old school videogame soundtrack. Last year, we saw the release of his bass-heavy Gangrene EP, which received major applause from a broad swathe of the experimental side of the scene, boasting a souped-up version of his already massively impressive sound. Now, he’s gifting us another body of work with Tides, and we’ve had the great privilege of premiering ‘The Grand Canaries’ from it for your listening pleasure right here on FUXWITHIT.

Inspired by ‘The Outlaw Ocean‘ book by Ian Urbina, Toadface aims to gift good music for an even better cause through the release of Tides, with ‘The Grand Canaries’ setting a mood of dramatic beauty and intense drama. Opening with moody, reality-bending gunshots and water droplets, an immediate air of wonder and intrigue fills the surrounding area. Intensely gorgeous strings swiftly follow, setting the coals of the heart ablaze while igniting the nervous system in preparation for the journey you’re about to undertake. Feeling like a cinematic masterpiece in and of itself, this piece feels more like a full-blown listening experience, the traditional term “song” not nearly seeming fitting enough. One of Toadface’s most impactful pieces to date, ‘The Grand Canaries’ deserves undivided attention while rinsing, as each minute element and introduction and subtraction of layers create a masterful ebb and flow that weaves a tale of dangerous adventure. Untold depth of sound combines with a heartfelt journalistic endeavor to create an end product that’s as astounding as it is magisterial.

Hailing all the way from Holland, Deadcrow has proven time and time again that he has a sound that spans the entire length of the globe with ease. Concocting an intoxicating blend of wondrous wave, dirty dub, and hellacious hardstyle, he brings together a wide range of music fans in appreciation of his prolific productions. We’ve long been enamored of his pieces here on FUXWITHIT, so recently we tapped him for the 150th installment of our guest mix + interview series. Between his longstanding history of pumping out heaters like ‘M.I.N.D.‘ and his 90% unreleased mix for Night Mode, and his most recent 2 track EP release on Sable Valley, this was a no-brainer of a decision. Now, he’s back with ‘Arrival’, a track that provides a true audible dichotomy.

Providing a tale of two very unique, distinct paths, ‘Arrival’ provides you with one hell of a journey from start to finish. Just as how in life we’re afforded many different options as to what we want to do and how we want to portray ourselves, this piece allows you to peer into a magnifying glass through time and space, seeing all your different realities play out in real-time. The healing, confidence-invigorating vibrations of the first whimsical wave drop imbue listeners with the power to become the hero they needed when they were a child, a champion they can truly be proud of. The latter hardstyle drop is much darker, flush with evil, chaos-centered undertones that create an impactful, multi-faceted listening experience. Many producers struggle to fully capture and flesh out even a single feeling in a piece, but Deadcrow has managed to perfectly exemplify two in a mere 3 minutes and 21 seconds. If this isn’t a sure sign of a true master at their craft, we’re not sure what is. Check out ‘Arrival’ for yourself below!

A trio of truly titanic quality, the Xotix boys emphatically made the best out of their time in quarantine. Bursting forth onto the scene just a little over a year ago, they’ve made veritable tsunamis of waves around the community with their emphatic style and energy contained in their unique take on west coast bass music. They first caught our eyes (ears?) with ‘Slap!’ a luscious hybrid banger with scintillating style and tasty tenacity. Once we heard ‘Outer Space‘ though, we were fully sold on this group, as their production prowess was more than abundantly clear. We had the great privilege of premiering their collaboration ‘Rabbit Hole‘ with the don Secret Recipe on Bassrush just a few months ago, much to the delight of all our readers. Now, they’re back at it once again with the ‘Diamonds,’ the debut single from their upcoming Fresh EP, and we’re proud to premiere it for your listening pleasure right here on FUXWITHIT.

‘Diamonds’ is what happens when computers become sentient and artificial intelligence takes over the world. What’s the meaning of life at that point? Can machines feel? What makes them tick? One such machine uncovers the joys of bombastic beep boop noise and finds glistening ‘Diamonds.’ What happens next is nothing short of miraculous, as it finds joy in life through the sacred air wiggles that contort human bodies in all sorts of interesting ways. Ludicrous panning from the very opening continues throughout, creating an intense sense of space and delicious 360 sound that tickles the eardrums ever-so-daintily like a feather. The bass lines are robust, the melodies are rich, and the layering is superb. Dense low-end trades hands with crispy clean synths, making an end product that’s a divine dish suitable for any audio dining establishment. The Xotix boys have once again proven they can play with the best of them and you should definitely keep a keen eye out for the rest of the Fresh EP dropping May 7th. Check out ‘Diamonds’ for yourself below!
