A-Trak’s Goldie Awards Are Back For 2021!

The Goldie Awards are back. A-Trak‘s epic DJ and producer battle is going digital. With events and travel locked down, the competition is headed to Fool’s Gold’s Twitch. Taking place on February 19, 20, and 27 we’ll see some of the best in the world competing on the live stream. This year is an invitational battle with the contestants being hand-picked by A-Trak. The event will feature 8 DJs and 8 producers with A-Trak, Craze, Decap, Uniiqu3, and Baauer serving as judges. The full list of competitors is yet to be fully announced but we’ve already seen DJ Ride & Tsuruda publicly state they will be competing. We’ll be keeping a close eye out for more details. But it’s guaranteed to be a can’t miss 3-night affair. See you in the chat!

Duck Sauce Bring The Quack Back With New Single ‘Smiley Faces’

In a week monopolized by Porter Robinson, Elon Musk’s first single and the Superbowl, Duck Sauce’s grand return risked to go unnoticed. However there’s no way that A-Trak and Armand Van Helden could slip under my radar, not as long as their debut album Quack is still on heavy rotation in my car. And what a great way to pick back up from where they left off in 2014! After these 6 years, their distinctive formula made of fat kicks, crispy groove, juicy basslines is back in full force, alongside the omipresent infectious disco samples. For the occasion, the two crate digging dons have sampled the 80’s single ‘Make Someone Feel Happy Today’ by Two Tons O’ Fun (the duo is also responsible for the iconic hit ‘It’s Raining Men’ under their alias The Wheater Girls) and the results are, as always, an infectious feel-good dance anthem able to flirt both with purists of the genre as well as with a random Tomorrowland attendee.

With (probably) a new LP on the way this year (Billboard reports they played some IDs during their Holy Ship Wrecked DJ set) and an already booked slot at this year’s Coachella, looks like this 2020 will be the year of the duck.

A-Trak’s Goldie Awards Are Back!

The Goldie Awards are back! Last year A-Trak took doing it for the culture to new heights by creating a brand new producer and beat battle known as the Goldie Awards. The event brought together some of the best DJs and up-and-coming producers in the world for a night unlike any other, and saw Miles Medina and Holly taking home the gold in the DJ and beat battles respectively.

Whether you’re a DJ looking to show off your skills, a producer hungry to make a name for yourself, or a fan who just craves battle culture, the Goldies are a can’t miss! The second annual event will be going down at Brooklyn Steel on Nov. 8. This year’s judges include legends like: Mark Ronson, Just Blaze, Craze, Murda Beatz, El-P, Anna Lunoe, Boys Noize and Venus X. It will also be co-hosted by Desus Nice and Nedeska Alexis. The prizes are no joke either. The beat battle winner will land a release on Fool’s Gold Records while the DJ winner gets a slot at Fool’s Gold Day Off.

A-Trak & YehMe2’s ‘Prayer Hands’ Is Too Much Fun

The Skat Men are back. After teasing ‘Prayer Hands’ with the release of their EP back in February, A-Trak & YehMe2 have finally let out the full version. ‘Prayer Hands’ is an oddball concoction that combines absurd vocal loops with a summer house bounce. Just when you become hypnotized in the groove, they flip the script and trap it out with some deep sub bass and snapping 808s. As if that wasn’t enough they freak it quickly with dash of moombah. ‘Prayer Hands’ is absurdly fun and addictive, don’t be surprised if you have this one on repeat. Stream below.

A-Trak & YehMe2 Team Up For ‘Skat Men’ EP

A-Trak & YehMe2 are the Skat Men.

The legendary producers recently linked up in Chicago for a studio session and we finally get to hear the output with the release of their Skat Men EP. The project is a ridiculous and fun-filled adventure. From the song titles to the sounds and samples used, it’s a lighthearted affair that’ll slap a smile on your face. ‘Neo Wokyo’ sounds like a Christmas chorus that gets lost in the sauce and turns into a party rager. ‘Take Me 2 The Barbershop’ pulls in another Skat Man with Wuki hoping on the feature. Again vocal samples are looped to form the foundation while they inject in some bouncy drums, deep bass and smattering of sounds that range from sirens to alarm clocks. The project closes with a preview of ‘Prayer Hands’ which is in line with the previous two but teases what may be a heavier, more hard hitting energy. No word on when the full version will drop but you can stream all 3 below and grab the free downloads of ‘Neo Wokyo’ & ‘Take Me 2 The Barbershop’.

A-Trak & Baauer Team Up For ‘Fern Gully / Dumbo Drop’

A-Trak and Baauer are two of the biggest and best in electronic music. With a co-headlining tour coming up, it’s only right that they got together to create some new tunes. Today they blessed fans with a two track effort entitled Fern Gully / Dumbo Drop. The title is in reference to the track titles and sees them taking two distinct and different directions. ‘Fern Gully’ is an upbeat daytime groove that feels like a jungle party in a cartoon world. It’s dancing in trees with monkeys, swangin’ with Orangutans and slithering with Boa Constrictors. It’s bouncy, a touch absurd and undeniably fun. ‘Dumbo Drop’ flips the script completely, moving into a dark club realm. The introduction is ominous and machine-like while the drops are on a wonked-out rave tip. Fern Gully / Dumbo Drop is an off-kilter effort that’s anything but ordinary. Stream below.

A-Trak Announces Goldie Awards: A DJ and Producer Battle For The Modern Age

A-Trak has always been a leader when it comes to bringing the art of DJing to the masses. He started out as a turntablist and battle DJ and has never forgotten his roots; whether it’s bringing turntablism to Boiler Room or championing #RealDJing across his social media platforms. Taking this a step further comes a new concept called the Goldie Awards. The Goldie’s are a brand new DJ and Producer Battle taking place on September 7th in New York. The DJ portion is open to any equipment set-up (as long as it includes one turntable or CDJ), allowing performers to get creative with their set ups. Meanwhile the beat battle will have producers flipping the same sample for a portion of the contest, as well playing out their own original works. The contest is currently taking video submissions with the top 6 in each category getting flown to NY for the finals.

Adding to the excitement, The Goldies have lined up some heavyweight judges including Craze, Destructo, Diplo, Mannie Fresh, Just Blaze, Mija and The Whooligan. Capping it off they also have Dave East playing host. The winning DJ will earn a set at Fools Gold Day Off and the winning producer will get to drop a track on the label.
