Acrillics have been mainstays on our site since we premiered their debut EP ALIVE back in 2018. Ever since, the duo has continued to level up. From releases with our friends at Electric Hawk to drops on Space Yacht and Anjunadeep, their catalog expands and the quality always increases. As FUXWITHIT favourites it was only a matter of time before they made their debut on our label and today that time has come. Connecting with rising talent Zeal, ‘Subzero’ mixes the best of their collective styles for an icy gem.

The artists first connected after being featured on MAD ZOO’s This is MAD TOO compilation back in 2020 and instantly clicked. Writing a song together was a natural next step and when Acrillics sent over the idea for ‘Subzero,’ Zeal knew it was the one.

Acrillics started this one, they brought a super solid foundation of a track that I was so stoked to work on. They absolutely nail the trap feel to it. I came in & put my ideas down on the DnB section. It came together quite quickly. Went for a more techy feel on this one since it had a more dark & ominous atmosphere. We had a different intro to start the track when we thought it was done. I went back into the project one day & decided the intro could be a bit more intricate & laid down a bit more of a hip-hop feel to it to give emphasis to the genre crossovers being a big part of the track. The part that gave the most grief was the transition from DnB to their iconic trap drop. I spent quite a few sessions ironing that part out but once I nailed it down it truly might be one of my favorite parts of the tune! – Zeal

‘Subzero’ transports listeners to a dark and frigid landscape. There’s an air of vast beauty that’s underscored with tension and a sense of impending doom. The first drop is pure energy, leaning into the DnB approach full steam ahead. It’s intense, heart-racing, and assured to have you moving. As the track appears to reach an apex, it recedes slightly while rebuilding. The switch-up is masterful and devastating. Exchanging the fast-paced DnB style for a powerful chest-rattling trap section. From there the two styles are intertwined, keeping listeners amazed with each carefully crafted turn.

The dark & ominous atmosphere of the track reminded us of a kind of frozen feeling – Try to imagine a frozen wasteland, where icebergs and ice shelves are moving at high speed smashing into each other, creating this mass movement in a frozen space. That’s how we feel about the title and how it embodies the music, which is both ominous but fast-paced as well. – Acrillics

Last year we claimed r/trap’s BOOST TAPE 01 was the pinnacle of trap. A bar set immensely high by impeccable curation and the mix of legends and rising stars involved. With their follow-up BOOST TAPE 02 the expectations couldn’t be much higher, but I can assure you it delivers. 28 tracks of relentless heat from the likes of Acrillics, camoufly, Chee, Chromonicci, Dabow, Deffie, episcool, Giraffage, Great Dane, Ivy Lab, LYNY, Machine Drum, MadBliss x Keeth, Oakk, Rome In Silver, Salva, Slumberjack x Ren Zukii, and somehow more. Once again the Boost Gang brings us some of the best trap, bass and club music that we’re destined to receive this year. From front to back the compilation slaps but we had to highlight a few of our favourites.

Kicking off the project comes Acrillics’ ‘What Do You Want.’ It’s no secret we’ve been longtime fans and supporters and it’s always great to see the duo making big moves. Serving as a perfect introduction, it starts as a slow burner with emotive undertones before unveiling a bass-leaning trap nature. Blending feels with aggressive and powerful energy makes this a can’t miss.

Chromonicci has become renowned for his diversity, from future beat finesse to lofi chill tunes and trap slaps, he can do it all. With ‘Singularity’ he finds a perfect fusion of off-kilter future beats and the chest-pounding energy of raw trap. It’s smooth yet, banging. Experimental but approachable and dare I say… smooth. In short, it’s spectacular.

The stash of unreleased heat that Dabow is sitting on right now is absolutely insane. Any time we get one of his highly sought-after IDs for release we relish it. ‘Poder’ has been a staple in Dabow sets and mixes so it’s great to finally get the proper release. From the bent vocal loops, to ice-cold keys and the blistering brass, this is trap music at its best. People really need to stop sleeping on Dabow’s greatness.

Possibly the biggest surprise on the tape is Giraffage’s’ ‘idgaf.’ Based around the vocal “I don’t give a fuck,” this is a blistering banger here to set speakers ablaze. Booming bass, precise vocals chops, and an almost absurd party vibe make it undeniably infectious. It’s the type of banger you could see getting spun out in trap or bass house sets or serving as the perfect bridge between the genres in a setlist. I didn’t know Giraffage went this hard.

Other mid-to-late tape standouts include Great Dane’s ‘aya hua’ which fuses tribal and spiritual energy with some serious bump, LYNY’s bossed-up anthem ‘Stumble,’ and RamonPang’s beastly ‘Santoor Unkown.’

Last but not least I have to highlight Rome In Silver’s ‘Little Demons.’ I’ve been waiting for this one to drop since I included it as an ID in my Electric Hawk Takover Mix in early 2020. Electric basslines, swooning vocals, crisp claps and a forward-thinking soundscape are expertly intertwined. The drops are funky and inviting while remaining mean. It exemplifies the exceptional balance that Rome In Silver has managed to master.

BOOST TAPE 02 is everything you wanted and more. Stream the full project below and be sure to grab it on Bandcamp.

Acrillics didn’t let the horror of 2020 affect their output. With a handful of well-received tracks, appearing on an Electric Hawk takeover, as well as various other streams, Acrillics have set the stage to have a blowout 2021 with their first track of the year, ‘Resin’. Premiering on the new Pacific Empire label, Acrillics have been in the lab cooking up a classic trap banger with a twist for their first track of the year.

‘Resin’ begins with a largely ethereal vibe with spacious, washed-out horns that blend with an angelic chord progression, but as the snare drums start building, the horns cresendo, and you realize that Acrillics are ushering 2021 in with a classic trap anthem. At the drop of ‘Resin’ you are smacked with detuned horns, thudding kick drums, and the oh-so-good 808 we love as trap fans. ‘Resin’ truly hits its stride in the second half, as the duo returns it back to the angelic space it originated from. Uplifting synths and mesmerizing percussion propel you forward as Acrillics bring you back into a double-timed drop to get you up and moving.

Acrillics have successfully cooked up quite the heater to start off 2021 with and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got next.

Listen to ‘Resin’ below.

When we look at the underground electronic music landscape in its current state, we are seeing a community of producers and listeners who are becoming more and more open to experimenting with other genres and styles. That’s just what we have here with Acrillics new single ‘Chroma’ Becoming known for their hard-hitting halftime/trap records, the international duo, and FUX favorite Acrillics have recently started to dabble into the drum and bass scene, and we’re all here for it. If Acrillics collaboration with Noughts is any foreshadowing, we’re in for a ride with ‘Chroma’.

We begin with an intro full of static noise and pounding percussion before quickly being thrown into a blender with wonky bass sound-design that becomes a constant throughout the drop section and these grime hi-pitch one-shots in the breaks of these wonky basses, to give this track a little bit of Jump-up influence. Just when you least expect it, the duo switches it up to half-time for the last section of the drop providing that perfect energy switch up leading into the breakdown. Make sure to check out the whole track down below and grab the free download!

Six months into the chaos that 2020 has become, not many things are looked at as a certainty at this point. But one thing that is sure to stick around is the resurgence of Drum & Bass in North America. Whether you’re just now getting into DnB or consider yourself an original basshead one thing is for sure, the time has come for artists across the modern-day bass scene to embrace its DnB roots. This year we’ve seen many big-name artists take a dip into DnB that almost came as a surprise, take Flume and Zeds Dead for example. Now its time for the underground to do its part, which is why it’s our honor to premiere ‘Depths,’ a collaboration between two of our favorite up-and-comers from two completely different corners of bass music.

We’ve come to love the Acrillcs boys for their fresh and exciting take on trap music over the past few years. They’ve consistently raised their bar in terms of production, and this time team up with New Zealand-based dubstep producer Noughts. This young New Zealander has been taking SoundCloud by storm recently with his aggressive no-nonsense approach. ‘Depths’ while being the title track to Acrillcs EP, is also the common ground where these two styles converge, and the result is impressive, to say the least.

‘Depths’ begins by introducing us to this ominous vocal sample that later becomes the centerpiece in the track. Soon after we’re lead into this suspenseful build-up full of marching drum patterns and eerie horns. All of this leads up to a drop full immaculate percussion elements all centered around that vocal that was introduced in the intro. We can’t forget to mention the basses in this section; dark and hard-hitting they become the meat of the breakdown section immediately after this. After a quick build-up, we’re met yet again by another high-energy drop similar to the first, but this time was a variation in arrangement.

We were able to catch up with Acrillics and Noughts and get a little bit of insight into the details and process of this track. We asked Noughts what it was about DnB that brought the two projects from separate corners of bass music together.

“The fact that myself and one half of Acrillics are based in New Zealand where DnB is especially very big, When I saw that this collaboration opportunity opened up, I thought it would be the best way to spread the DnB genre since Acrillics has a following all over the world. I’m sure I’m not speaking for myself when I say this, but it is always fun to venture off into different genres and try something new.”

With Noughts giving this answer, we had to ask, what was the process like during the making of this track?

“Even though myself and the Acrillics boys have a pretty different style of music that we focus on, the knowledge and goal that we are trying to reach are still pretty similar, music knowledge in the EDM scene is pretty universal. These days artists can tackle any genre and make something decent. This track started off as an idea I just quickly wrote down for fun to try a different genre, after showing the Acrillics they liked it and after that, we just sent it back and forth making small changes. The project didn’t take too long to finish since we had a pretty similar idea in mind so we got the result we wanted pretty quick.”

Taking everything into account, DnB truly does look to be on the rise in North America, but to what extent? We asked the Acrillcs boys what they think needs to be done for DnB to get the spotlight it deserves, and more importantly, what can we as the underground do?

“I think just in general we need to see both established DnB artists and underground ones pushing the scene in the U.S. & Canada. Obviously, because of Coronavirus, it’ll probably take a bit longer than expected until Drum and Bass reaches the larger festivals but looking at the presence of the genre across the online festival circuit, I think we’re all hoping to see amazing growth in terms of both listeners and artists.”

“I think the role of the underground is paramount in the movement. Underground artists are much better in building loyal fan bases since fans see their growth through the years and I see this as a parallel to the growth of the DnB genre in North America. That being said, seeing more established names, labels, and blogs play tribute and support the up and coming DnB artists is super important. Just from our limited experience, Noisia, Mad Zoo, and Street Ritual are prime examples of how to support the growth of the genre. Essentially, I think all that is needed is support for the underground and a little bit more time until we see proper DnB on the festival circuit, but it’s happening and we’re all super hopeful for more.”

Drum & Bass was undeniably birth from the spirit of the underground, and we’re glad to take the reigns for the underground in the present day.

The underground has been ripe with banging new tracks lately, and almost every label is putting out steady releases in this time. Gaining new life, Noiseporn Records has been relaunched, and they picked an absolute heater of a track of come out of the gates. Acrillics and We Rose have been on our radar for a minute, with Acrillics recently releasing on Electric Hawk, and We Rose having multiple yojas. collabs out. So when we saw that they teamed up for their own collaboration we were hyped to say the least. Titled ‘Horizons,’ Acrillics and We Rose truly flex their production skills and versatility on this mind-bending track.

‘Horizons’ begins on a large scale, with powerful synths and epic drums giving off an instant vibe of “This is going to smack mega-hard.” Acrillics and We Rose bring in an oriental perc lead that jumps and skips around the crushing, heavily distorted 808’s and trap drums, building an insane first drop. The break they give listeners fuels the energy for the second drop, choosing a more future bass infused drop with uplifting chords, Acrillics and We Rose bring the track full circle with this last drop. Mixing future bass and trap is something I have always enjoyed and Acrillics and We Rose have truly made a beautiful collaboration.

Finding themselves freshly settled into life in LA, the powerhouse duo known as Acrillics have been hard at work in the studio. Their last release, titled ‘Bloom‘ was so good we had to snatch it up for a premiere. And now they’ve returned with a new release ‘Fracture’ on Subterranean Sounds that really showcases how much they’ve stepped their game up.

‘Fracture’ begins with crisp drums that quickly build into a drop that gives immediate bass face. Using an extremely wonky lead that seems to glide around the beat, Acrillics also make excellent use of the negative space in this track, truly creating a rift in sound. The second drop has an even more improved flow to it, adding bending fills and playful percussion. Acrillics has definitely knocked this one out of the park, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll be doing next.

Acrillics are a perfect example of the power of music and the incredibly connected world we live in. The duo first met attending college in New Zealand. They quickly bonded over their shared love for music, which lead to them to starting a production project together. When Andro finished school and moved to across the world to Philadelphia, they didn’t abandon the project, but instead doubled down on it. They were able to overcome the distance and create their impressive debut EP Alive back in 2018, which we had the pleasure of premiering. The duo further showcased their promise with the release of their captivating new single ‘Bloom’. With more new music on the horizon and a recent move to LA, we thought now would be the perfect time to connect for a guest mix and interview. We spoke to them about their time in LA so far, what it’s been like to finally work together in person, and what’s next. Their mix is stacked with bangers including a few IDs from the duo as well as music from Jon Casey, msft., Mr. Carmack, QUIX, NXSTY + more. Stream it below and get familiar.

You recently moved out to LA how’s it been so far?

It’s been amazing! We’ve managed to connect with awesome producers, such as Anti, Slang Dogs, Blush, Pauline Herr and Cozway amongst many other super talented people in the industry. Beyond that we’ve had a lot of time to travel beyond LA and see some of the beauty that the West Coast has to offer.

What’s your favourite spot there? What makes it special?

We’ve done a lot of hiking around LA. Solstice Canyon, in the Santa Monica Mountains is a personal favourite so far. The views of the ocean and the hills just really make it an inspiring spot. Exploring DTLA has been really cool too. Pro-trip: go get a beer at Mikeller on the corner of Olive and West Olympic, it’s like 2 blocks from our apartment so has become our go to place – just some super chill vibes, good beer and good food.

Have you been able to break into the music scene in LA or make any cool new connections yet?

As we said above, we’ve made some amazing friends already and are working one a lot of new tunes with them. In terms of “the scene” – we haven’t made much headway, but we’re hoping to play some shows with local collectives, such as Myopic and Bassted soon!

We’ve definitely been a lot more productive and have learned a lot from both each other but also the other producers we’ve started to work with

Has your production dynamic changed a lot now that you’re able to collaborate in person? Any challenges with the new dynamic?

We’ve definitely been a lot more productive and have learned a lot from each other but also the other producers we’ve started to work with. No challenges so far, but working 11 hours a day doesn’t help when it comes to maximizing your productivity haha.

Is it difficult balancing working a day job and artistic career? How do you manage the two worlds?

Yeah it’s super difficult. We both have very non-music related day jobs, that are also very different from each other, but that’s also a cool aspect of us working together – we learn a lot from each other outside of the music realm too. There’s not much to manage really, you just kinda have to work a lot of hours haha.

we’ve been trying to make more faced paced tracks, that other producers/DJs can drop in their sets, but mainly just the quality of our productions has increased tremendously

You recently tweeted that you keep up your older work so people can see your progression. In what way have you evolved since you began producing?

Our sound has evolved quite a lot – we’ve been trying to make more faced paced tracks, that other producers/DJs can drop in their sets, but mainly just the quality of our productions has increased tremendously. It’s a really good feeling to compare our recent tracks to older productions.

If you could achieve one major goal before the year ends, what would it be?

We’d definitely like to do a proper debut show in LA, even if it’s an opening slot for a producer we really respect. Potentially at one of the more famous venues in LA, such as Exchange or Academy. Besides that we’re really hoping to release a track or two track (which are in the mix) on larger labels, such as QGR, MAD ZOO or Bonsai Collective.

What do you have in store in terms of upcoming releases?

There are two IDs of ours in the mix, but beyond that we’re finishing up about 3 collaborations as well as a remix or two.

What is this mix the soundtrack too? What was going through your mind when putting it together?

We tried to showcase what one of our live performances would sound like – a mix of old school classics, new bangers and some of our own productions. We love that it has both really melodic sections but also some grimy experimental sounds. Both of us are super stoked for the mix and its release on FUXWITHIT!

Working on ‘Bloom,’ we wanted to create a melodic and atmospheric soundscape to use as a dramatic opening to our sets, but also as an entry point for new fans and listeners. We wanted to convey our love to orchestral melodies as well as heavy tonal drops, with heavily distorted 808s, in an attempt to more precisely define our sound,” Andro of Acrillics tells us about the release.

‘Bloom’ is a slow burner that’s beautiful and powerful. With each passing bar the mood deepens and the track becomes more engrossing. When the drops finally hit they encompass a wordly, battle-like energy that’s further punctuated by the sword-clashing samples and snappy drums. Devoid of lyrics, the duo let the instrumentation do the talking, pulling at your heart strings one minute and pumping your blood the very next. Stream ‘Bloom’ below and be sure to check out the visualizer for the full experience.
