Monday’s have a lot going against them. The weekend is over, the return to reality is here and the next weekend is as far away as it can be. Most people hate Monday’s but one platform has been tirelessly working to change the perception from dreaded to anticipated. Every so often Lucid Monday appears on the scene with a compilation so stacked it’ll make you ready to skip over the weekend just to get your hands on it. LM025 proceeds to live up to the hype and high bar set by their previous releases. With 20 tracks from Chromonicci, Dilip & Otxhello, olswel, Dabow x L*o*J x LYNY, Louis Futon, Foolie $urfin, aedfx., Evil Needle, enuar & kas, and so many more, this is an absolute must-listen. The vibes are immaculate and the slaps are in abundance. From front to back it’s a showcase of the next wave of exceptional talent.

Seeing Dabow, L*o*J, & LYNY on a track is enough to get any trap heads heart-pumping. ‘OG’ does not disappoint illustrating why they are 3 of the best out. The vocal is hypnotic and the track takes you into another dimension. From classic trap to mind-bending sound design, brutish bounce, and even a hazy, dripped out finale, it never stagnates and just keeps getting better.

Chill bangers seem like an oxymoron until you experience them for yourself, and then they’re all you want to hear. Evil Needle’s ‘Lift Off’ presents the tranquility of chilling on a tropical beach with a banging drop to take you to the beach club before allowing you to fully unwind and enjoy the breeze. You can practically taste the Mojitos and smell the saltwater dripping off this one.

Just in time for ‘Springszn’ comes the aptly titled collab from enuar & kas. Light and airy, it’s the audio equivalent of that first summer-like day after a long winter. The synths warm your skin like sun rays. The steel drums wash away any worries and replace your stress with a feeling of elation. Smiles, slow hip-swaying and smashing replay are the only things on the menu for ‘Springszn.’

Start your week off right with Lucid Monday’s LM025 and remember that Mondays aren’t all bad.

Future beats have always been a huge part of the underground and music in general. Shaping many pioneers and new artists to their fullest potential. And Knick, aedfx and Keeth. are some highly notable ones. With their newest single, ‘ghost,’ they’ve yet again proven to be some of the most unique in the game. Bouncing ideas and honoring every bit of their strengths, their dynamic powers work together in harmony. They each have their own flavor of production taste. And you can clearly hear each contribution to the vision with each play. A highly addictive remedy of sound.

‘ghost’ has everything you love within the trap genre. Impactful 808’s, whimsical arrangement and heavy drums. You name it! Incorporating so many elements and ear candy within the time limit is highly impressive. Each section is different yet familiar. One after another, you’ll be going back to hear each section again to see if you missed something. The first drop they throw upon us has a video game feel. It’s as if you were transported into your favorite old-school video game. You’ll be enjoying the nostalgia, when all of a sudden, they open it back up with enormous amounts of character and life. Building up the anticipation higher than ever before. Resulting in traveling to the second drop. What separates this one is the sheer amount of spice and attitude they all gave out through energetic melody. Spreading nothing but lush filled goodness to the ears and heart. Ending with a breathtaking piano to calm the storm back down to its original form. Shedding sprinkles of gold from above to heal the troubles.

Make sure to go support these talented musicians by streaming ‘ghost’ on SoundCloud.

Rising from the depths of SoundCloud, aedfx. has been moving from underground favourite to true standout. His “dark bounce” sound fuses elements of trap, rap and experimental bass for a undeniable filthy aesthetic. The drums punch, the samples are dripping with sauce, and the bass will consume you with darkness. After making waves a few years back with cuts like ‘predator’ and ‘woah,’ he unleashed a slew of sinister collabs alongside Dabow, Jon Casey, L*o*J, and golden child, to name a few. With an official remix for Great Dane and a contribution to the massive r/trap super compilation, aedfx. continues to make major moves. We caught up with the exceptional talent for an interview and guest mix. The interview touches on his process, passion for learning, and what’s next. The mix is strictly aedfx. including a number of unreleased heaters. Check out both below.

What should we expect from the mix? Where are you taking listeners with this?

I decided to go with all original tracks for the mix. I have a dark project coming out so I generally stuck to the darker-themed tracks for the mix. There are a decent amount of unreleased tracks in the mix, most of which will be on the upcoming project. I’m all about dark hyphy shit, that’s why I tend to label a lot of my songs as “dark bounce.”

music is the one thing that makes me feel like I have a place in this world.

What drives you to create music?

Honestly, music is the one thing that makes me feel like I have a place in this world. When I start making a track I just kind of get lost in this creative space, and that’s when I feel the happiest. What really keeps me going, though, is the people that support me. When you see a crowd of people getting down to music you made it’s the best feeling ever. Being around fellow creatives also helps a lot with keeping that drive.

What’s your work process like? Do you sit down and write at specific times or wait for inspiration to strike?

Creativity is something you can’t force out of yourself, but sometimes you have to force yourself to keep practicing even if you’re not making your best work. Usually when I’m really feeling creative I just have this thought that I need to be working on music, then once I start going I just get lost in the sauce and a few hours later I’ll have a dope track going. It’s weird, sometimes I feel like the music is manifesting itself through me and I’m just the host.

Everybody finds their passions at different times, so you can’t feel guilty if you aren’t sure yet.

Your twitter bio reads, “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” Do you have any tips for cultivating this passion?

It really comes down to what truly makes you happy. If you don’t know what it is yet, you will eventually. Everybody finds their passions at different times, so you can’t feel guilty if you aren’t sure yet. I personally was lucky to find mine at such a young age. Once you find that passion, just keep learning more about it and diving deeper into it and you inevitably will grow to be much better and more successful at whatever it may be.

What’s the most exciting thing you’ve learned recently?

This is a tough question. I started reading this book earlier this year called “Waking Up” by Sam Harris and it has taught me so much about consciousness and meditation. I love learning and talking about deep philosophical stuff, and the human mind.

You recently started offering production lessons. What’s been the best part of this so far?

It has been really nice to work with people in different stages of music production and learn how to work with people individually. Like anything you teach, it really reinforces my knowledge and in turn makes me think of new ideas and techniques. It is definitely a mutually beneficial thing.

I’m excited for the album because it is all dark heavy tracks, which are my favorite.

What projects do you have currently in the works? When should we expect to see more new music from you?

I have so much unreleased music. I am just trying to be strategic about how/when to release it. I’m currently working on an album titled Affliction. This project is really a projection of dark moments I’ve had in the past few years. I’m excited for the album because it is all dark heavy tracks, which are my favorite. I’m also working on a lot more raw hip-hop/soulful joints that I want to release soon. I feel myself reaching new levels and exploring different realms of music, expanding my sound. Mainly, I’m trying to work on music that I enjoy personally.

You mentioned your health has been improving as of late. Has it changed your mood or life outlook in any ways? Has it influenced your musical output?

After some complications throughout the last 4 years, I am beyond thankful to be in a better place with my health. A lot of the inspiration for the new album was a direct result of struggles with health. I have developed much more gratitude for even the simplest things in life, learned to not take anything for granted, and to just enjoy life. It certainly has influenced my music output. Anytime I was going through intense pain, I would use making music as a distraction, and distraction is extremely powerful. Music has been my escape in bad times.

You were part of the BOOST TAPE 01 alongside some of underground’s best and trap legends like UZ, YehMe2, S-Type, Baauer, Lunice, djemba djemba and more. How did this opportunity come about? What was it like being involved in a project with so many legends?

The r/trap guys reached out to me in an email and I was down before I even knew who else was on the tape. I was hyped to find out how many legends they got on the project and just felt honored to have even been considered. It was just really amazing to see everyone come together for a great cause. A lot of these artists were the reason I even started making trap in the first place.

What do you hope to get out of the remainder of 2020?

I hope to continue growing as a musician, and as a person, and I hope to see the safety of my friends and family as we move on throughout this crazy year. We finna kick 2020’s ass.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Great Dane‘s latest offering Delta Fly was given the remix treatment from a selection of FUXWITHIT favorites. Handpicked by the big dog himself, these producers twisted and mangled the LP into a too hot to handle distant cousin. While some tracks bark and bite, others snuggle up and show your ears the unconditional love they deserve. Needless to say, these artists absolutely bodied it.

Upholding their unmistakable left-field sound design, sfam, um.., Elle and Blake Skowron bring the squishy, squanchy and crunchy palette on their flips of ‘Basshead’, ‘Free Money, Free Times’, ‘Wumper’ and ‘Former Friends’, delivering a new edge to the project. Each track bangs in it’s own lane, but if you really want to have your brain dismantled I especially recommend the 2:32 mark in Blake Skowron’s flip of ‘Former Friends’. Samsin and aedfx. bring some Carmack-esque heat to the table with their renderings of ‘Bank On Me’ and ‘We Get Up’ that keeps us coming back for more. ‘Bandz On Me’ gets an especially savory handling from the don UZ, giving the already radio-friendly original an elegantly executed melodic trap-rap spin. Even the dog daddy himself took the opportunity to breathe alluring new life into his track ‘Lonely Ones’ with Katya Grasso.

Great Dane took what was already a memorable album and enlisted the best talent from far and wide. The project makes an immaculate addition to ADBC Records growing catalog of superb variety and will stick with us for years to come. Having come together in the past for ‘Emergency’, the producers prove their chemistry once again on ‘Lean.’ Slightly out of focus vocal bends are sprinkled over crisp percussion programming and pounding bass to set the tone. As the vocals come into focus you’re immersed into a world that feels like sipping too much sizzurp at a warehouse rave. The end result is an unapologetically filthy bass banger. ‘Lean’ in below.

[SUS] Collective is a brand that pioneers progressive and ambitious trap. The underground can’t be mentioned without bringing up [SUS]. Their showcase of rising producers started in 2017 under the moniker [SUS] Tape Vol. 1 and they’re introducing us to volume seven right now. Each track is an individual chapter that allows for the listener to step into the minds of these artists and collectively create a book well worth reading. One track that stands out to FUXWITHIT in particular is ‘Mean Mug‘ which peels back the prolific layer of three distinct designers: aedfx., Jestic, and [SUS] collective co-founder episcool.

‘Mean Mug’ opens the doors and invites you in with its soft build that allows each sound to have its own lane before it is all integrated into a homogeneous trap experience. A focus on the elaborate production with minimal but effective design is what sets ‘Mean Mug’ apart from the rest. It creates a bass haven that immediately lays the foundation for the forward-thinking percussion. This track unifies the connection between these three producers and constitutes what the [SUS] Collective brand strives to represent. Check out the rest of the compilation here and listen to ‘Mean Mug’ below to bring out your inner sus.

It’s the end of the month and that means it’s time for another edition of Focus Five. As always, we’ve rounded up our top five favourite new finds for your listening pleasure. We’ve got hard hitting trap from aedfx and Haan808, future beat producer Afosamuriiast, murderous midtempo from SWARM and a remix master by the name of Ticklish. Find out why you need to be listening to these artists.

aedfx.

Hailing from St. Louis, aedfx. is occupying that perfect position between trap and bass music. His signature sound pairs stripped down, heavy-hitting trap with inventive sound design. He’s already worked with FUXWITHIT favourites L*O*J and Jon Casey on ’emergency’ and ‘unwind’ respectively. Both of which feature expertly tweaked vocal bends and booming bass. With a new EP on the horizon, it’s only a matter of time before aedfx. is well known. The first, aptly titled single ‘woah,’ gives listeners a taste of what’s to come and it sounds phenomenal. The slow burning track blends mystical melodies, with some serious bump and his signature stellar percussion. It introduces a deeper range of emotion to his work while still staying true to the dark bounce vibe he’s become know for. Expect a big 2018 for aedfx.

Afrosamuraiist

If you were to throw a hip-hop backbone, R&B flavour, a touch of trap, sprinkle in some world music and bake it all into a Future Beat formula, you’d have something pretty close to what Afrosamuraiist has been cooking up. The London based producer has been slowly creeping onto our radar for the past few months. The joyous ‘Lotus,’ and the exotic ‘Deewani’ caught my ear a while back, but it’s the consistent stream of release in the past two months that really made me a fan. From the mimosa and sun soaked vibes of ‘Drank’ to the futuristic yet nostalgic vibe on ‘Yuh!,’ it seems everything he touches turns to gold. Oh and if you’re looking to just straight up vibe out, his latest ‘Odori’ will have you feeling like you’re meditating in an ancient zen garden. If you like your music, smooth and rich with just the right amount slap, Afrosamuraiist is your new treat.

Haan808

I’m not sure how I’ve been sleeping on Haan808 but his latest ‘Bad Boy’ certainly woke me up real quick. Released via Mad Decent’s Good Enuff label, the track puts his skills on full display. Encapsulating his personal style to perfection, ‘Bad Boy’ blends hazy and mesmeric textures with brutal bass and metallic synths. If that wets your appetite be sure to check out his sinister edit of QUIX’s ‘Sweet Thing’. Haan808 is a lowkey Soundcloud boss, having worked with heavy hitters like Montell2099, Sango and Ozzie and has even had a song remixed by the legend Mr. Carmack. New Zealand’s bass music scene is on fire right now and Haan808 is definitely one of the artists fanning the flames.

SWARM

Midtempo is quickly becoming the dominant sound and style of the moment, and whenever something peaks in popularity it leads to both blah, boring cookie-cutter copycats, and fresh, inventive fire. The latter definitely rings true with Floridian fright foreman, SWARM. Often cast aside as simple, plodding, un-progressive and sound design-centric, midtempo isn’t for everyone. That said, SWARM slays the stereotype with mind-blowing movement, stunning switch-ups and yes, soul-shaking sound design. His tracks ooze with unease, through a variety of sounds, showing off incredible musical ability. While his most recent tracks are a cinematic scarefest, a look back through his catalog reveals a brooding bootleg of Malaa’s ‘Pregnant.’ Capable and captivating, we’ve got our eyes firmly locked on this midtempo terror.

Ticklish

Berlin bootleg boss Ticklish has been rebooting classic R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop for over half a decade. His playful recastings of your favourite tracks from yesteryear includes the likes of Toni Braxton, Brandy & Monica and newer cuts from Drake, Cardi B and others. While much of the originals’ allure remains in his reboots, the German adds his own genius with a distinctly future feel, titillating (or better yet, tickling) your groove bone. That said you can also hear his love affair with footwork in his productions, as going back to 2013 that’s where his story started. High energy and heaping with heart, Ticklish has found my fancy and filled it with brilliant, bouncy bootlegs. Be sure keep an eye on him to find out what track he takes on next!
