Way back in 2019, we premiered an Akeos and Nvctve collaboration called ‘Aperture‘ that showcased their respective undeniable talents in creating sinister bass music. Since then, the pair of producers have individually continued to carve their path through the sometimes-rough terrain that is the bass music scene, remaining powerful forces through their technical abilities, genre diversification and steady influx of releases.

With Akeos set to unleash her Flesh Garden EP via Never Say Die tomorrow, we were ecstatic to see a new collaboration with Nvctve included in the mix, as the track first featured in the Akeos 2022 Showcase was among the standouts of the bunch. Each track from the Flesh Garden EP is unique in its own right, ranging from dubstep, to drum and bass, to bassline, but in ‘Desolate’ alongside Nvctve, the pair have opted to concoct a brutal halftime cut, and we are stoked to premiere it today.

Simply put, ‘Desolate’ is a cohesive mixture of both artists’ styles. A faint, blaring alarm opens the track in angst, before those signature, crunchy Nvctve stabs quickly take center stage. Wasting no time getting to the meat of things, the producers use a minimal backdrop to let the lead sounds shine in the drop section, as Akeos then adds her touch of flair to the piece with chaotic synths. As the second half of ‘Desolate’ rolls around, Akeos and Nvctve further push the insanity of the track with contorted basses and electrifying energy.

Don’t miss ‘Desolate’ below and be sure to check out the rest of Flesh Garden tomorrow.

Akeos embodies what all new artist should strive towards. Despite growing her platform through an exhilarating take on dubstep that continues to push the boundaries of the genre itself, Akeos has never limited herself to that singular genre, exploring just about every aspect of electronic music. From launching the Akeos project with more trap-leaning releases, to recent endeavours into the world of techno, there is no saying what Akeos will do next, and her 2022 Showcase exemplifies this to a tee.

Today, the talented artist makes a statement with ‘Variegate,’ her first single of the year, which coincidentally is also the first track from the aforementioned showcase. The introduction is quintessential Akeos, with a looming soundscape hinting at the foreboding energy that follows, but leaving listeners intrigued as to where the track is headed. It’s only when the drop hits that the style of the track reveals itself, with a nostalgic electro-leaning tempo driving the intensity. The vigour of the bass and the snappy, rhythmic percussion provide a sustained dosage of electricity throughout the drop section, making ‘Variegate’ a perfect workout playlist addition. Those familiar with Akeos’ catalogue will certainly recognize some of the sounds used in the piece, but what makes her so special is her ability to use parts of her signature in such a refreshing way. Don’t miss ‘Variegate’ below.

Despite executing just about every genre at an elite level, Akeos‘ true genius lies in their ability to ceaselessly innovate within the realm of dubstep. From their debut on Never Say Die: Black Label just over two years ago to delivering consistently boundary-pushing bass music since then, the Pennsylvania-based producer has risen to stardom strictly out of sheer talent. So, it comes as no surprise that the next accolade that Akeos can add to their already-impressive list is a full project release on Never Say Die, with the Material EP due out on Friday. And, as one could expect, the Material EP is a four-track beast that furthers Akeos’ dominance in dubstep.

Ahead of the project’s release, we have the extreme pleasure of premiering ‘Soul Material’ today to give fans a taste of the monstrosity that is contained within the collection. As the first track to drop from the four, ‘Soul Material’ opens with a somber soundscape that hints at the unbridled chaos that lies in due course. The introduction is kept minimal to highlight the complexity and the absolute wretchedness of the drop that follows, as a brief vocal sample lures listeners into bass madness. Robotic top layer synths drive the energy while a nasty sub controls the rhythm of the drop sections, as Akeos pummels listeners with brutish sound design that is sure to send any crowd ablaze. A wicked switch-up lined with the sounds of a futuristic machine gun keeps the intensity at a sustained level, attesting to the producer’s ability to keep one hooked without being repetitive.

Boasting an even crazier second half, ‘Soul Material’ is an introduction to the Material EP that is not for the faint of heart. Listen below.

Three pioneers of bass music. One unlikely collaboration. ‘LOL OK’ is the product of a teaming between MUST DIE!, Akeos and Skream out today via Never Say Die, and yes, you read that correctly.

It’s difficult to imagine a world where the three aforementioned artists could come together on a track without a single hiccup, but upon further inspection, it actually makes more sense than not. While all three artists need no introduction, a deeper dive into each’s contribution to electronic music quickly reveals the logic behind the collaborative madness. Skream is a dubstep pioneer, bringing the genre to the masses in the UK and, despite not being as active in the bass community in recent years, has undoubtedly paved the way for the genre today. MUST DIE! is a revolutionary in North America, with consistently unique releases since early last decade solidifying his legend status in the modern scene. Finally, few have seen as meteoric a rise as Akeos over the last couple of years, as the young talent has quickly become a trailblazer in their own right. So, actually, referring back to the first sentence of this article, ‘LOL OK’ oddly makes sense.

As the final single from MUST DIE!’s upcoming CRISIS VISION album out on May 21st, ‘LOL OK’ destroys all notions of what one should expect from the trifecta of producers, falling under the broad umbrella of bass music but defying our understanding of dubstep one bar at a time. It’s got an old-school bassline and flow, but is layered with cutting-edge sound design, and a menacing second-half switch up attest to the raw genius of all involved. Words can’t do this one justice, so we implore you to dive in below and to give it a few spins to truly appreciate its ingenuity.

Bassline on Never Say Die: Black Label? An unlikely adventure from three solid forces in the bass scene, ‘Skeng’ eliminates all notion of what one should expect from a Never Say Die: Black Label release, and opens endless doors as to what the future may hold.

Teased for months in sets from all three artists as well as many others, ‘Skeng’ is aptly titled considering its British origins, but the undeniable influence from the North American bass scene makes it a well-rounded piece sure to have a global impact. Boasting a tempo on the higher end of the bassline spectrum, ‘Skeng’ wastes no time getting into the thick of things, before the triumphant triumvirate unleash a highly-energetic display of crisp sound design without ever loosing the track’s seamless groove.

As one of Kompany‘s most popular tracks of 2020, ‘Feel It All’ saw the veteran producer expand his horizons with a more melodic sound without escaping his heavy signature stomp. The track, released via Never Say Die, was tailored to close off festival sets with a bang, and while it might not have served that exact purpose last year, it certainly provided a welcome addition to Kompany’s impressive repertoire of quality tunes.

Today, the euphoric track gets a remix treatment from four of bass music’s most solid forces, namely MUST DIE!, Oolacile, and Akeos and Syzy. The former kicks off with an old school rave introduction that MUST DIE! has perfected in his latest releases, where the legend layers the originals vocals overtop his playful melodies. The drops are equally as mesmerizing as the opening, with the artist combining mind-melting dubstep sound design with minimal percussion, providing the perfect contrast for bass lovers. The second rendition of ‘Feel It All’ from Oolacile is a quintessential future riddim treatment from the Halcyon label-head, which does not come as much of a surprise as he’s a key player in spearheading this new subgenre movement. The remix is fun and lively, but still riddled with bass stabs that keep the heaviness of the original alive. Last but not least, Akeos and Syzy deliver the meatiest flip of ‘Feel It All,’ doing what they do best with a relentless pounding of bass menacing your ear drums for the track’s duration. It’s chaotic yet controlled, and really just a testament to both Akeos and Syzy’s undeniable prowess.

As avid supporters of Akeos since their early releases, it’s difficult to come up with words that haven’t been said to praise their continuous innovation through the wide realm of bass music. Every new track is a step forward for the Pennsylvania-based artist, and that’s saying a lot given the extraordinary quantity of material coming out on a regular basis. Just when we thought the list of accolades from the talented producer would start to plateau, Akeos is now back with perhaps their biggest accomplishment to date: curating the third installment of Never Say Die: Black Label‘s Black Ops XL compilation – a feat only accomplished by Aweminus and Blankface & SVGMAZE in the past.

With the impressive 45-minute mix hitting SoundCloud last week, a ton of hype was created surrounding the contributors to the compilation, with a few individual tracks appearing on the platform this week ahead of the project’s full release on Friday. Today, we have the extreme honour of premiering ‘Voltage Disk,’ a massive collaboration between the Akeos and JOOL. The latter has also been having himself quite the year, with releases on Never Say Die: Black Label, Circus Records and Odio Records, as well as collaborations with Hukae, Megalodon and WHALES to name a few, thus this joining of forces is not entirely out of the blue.

‘Voltage Disk’ is a menacing combination of Akeos and JOOL’s sounds. The introduction is quintessential Akeos, with a frantic, unnerving essence created in its early seconds. An insurmountable tension leads listeners to the drops that are equally as chaotic as they are mechanical and meticulous in their construction. A true display of grueling sound design, ‘Voltage Disk’ is among the standouts from Black Ops XL III, so stick around for the second half of the track to be further impressed by Akeos and JOOL.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find an artist who has had as meteoric of a rise as Akeos over the last eighteen months. From getting their break on Never Say Die: Black Label with the Labyrinth EP, to pouring out an inhuman consistency of tracks ever since, the Pennsylvania-based artist has ceaselessly impressed with their ability to push bass music to new frontiers, finding genius ways to innovate over and over. In more recent times, Akeos has continued to turn heads with their versatility, with contributions to the Halcyon debut, the Subsidia debut, and an official remix for Moody Good and Slander. Simply put, it appears that writer’s block is not part of the young talent’s vocabulary.

Refusing to slow down their releases, Akeos is now back with a new single titled ‘Thumbs,’ a self-released monster of a tune that only furthers the above statements on creativity. Not quite dubstep, not quite halftime, ‘Thumbs’ is a bass brute highlighted by vivacious sound design and a truly menacing flow. The introduction is brief and ominous, quickly setting the stage for the crunchy catastrophe that follows. The drop sections are relentless in their aggression and unsettling in their off-kilter approach – but all in the best way possible. Don’t miss ‘Thumbs’ below and let us know your thoughts!

Despite being able to dive into a plethora of genres with ease, SYZY has really found his place and carved his own path in the heavy dubstep scene. With releases on Bassweight Records and the now-defunct Bewildered Productions, as well as a ton of highly-anticipated unreleased material in his arsenal, it was only a matter of time until the artist made his mark on the scene with a full-length project. Now, having just released ‘Hi’ on the debut Malignant Vol. 1 compilation, SYZY is showing no signs of slowing down with his debut on Never Say Die: Black Label coming out later this week in the form of the Sunshine EP. Ahead of its full release, we have the honour of premiering ‘Identity Theft’ alongside the young legend Akeos today, and it’s even heavier than it was teased to be.

The track itself is around a year old and took a couple of months to finish, starting with a 30-second drop idea from SYZY before Akeos came around to structure and elongate the piece. On working with Akeos, SYZY states, “I am so glad to have worked on this with them. It was so fun to work on, and I can guarantee more collabs with Akeos in the future.”

Simply put, ‘Identity Theft’ is a cohesive combination of SYZY and Akeos’ catastrophic sounds. The introduction is short yet foreboding, hinting at the destruction that soon follows. As the drop hits at the forty-second mark, chaos embodied through ground-shattering frequencies is unleashed, flexing a repetitive pattern that only grows more relentless as the track progresses. The energy encapsulated within ‘Identity Theft’ is steady and sure to induce a whiplash, primed for the eventual return of front-row headbanging.

With more madness to come soon in the Sunshine EP, satisfy your current craving for bass with ‘Identity Theft’ below.
