When we think of brands that have become pivotal within the culture of dance music, we have to mention Space Yacht. Originally beginning as an event company out of LA, Space Yacht has become so much more than that. In recent years we’ve seen one of the most recognized brands in dance music launch their brand new record label, Space Yacht Records, and were one of the first to get involved in the ever-growing NFT space. Beginning with CLB & Formula’s ‘Moving Forward’ nearly a year ago, the label’s momentum has shown no sign of slowing. Boasting a discography from experimental bass to tech house, it’s been a pleasure seeing an event company this big stay true to their event lineups with their label and deliver releases in many different areas of dance music. With this in mind, it’s time we take a deep dive into Space Yacht’s brand new compilation Big Bass Ting Vol.1.

Meant to showcase the heavier side of Space Yacht, Big Bass Ting Vol.1 has a tracklist stacked full of names we’re already familiar with like NAZAAR, Blurrd Vzn, and Blankface. Along with these familiar names we’re introduced to plenty of up-and-coming talent from the underground. From hybrid trap to dubstep, to experimental, Big Bass Ting Vol. 1 truly has something that every basshead can enjoy. This compilation already has us looking forward to Big Bass Ting Vol. 2.

Two of the blurriest boys straight out of San Diego, blurrd vzn, have been on an absolute tear over the course of the past 18 months. Between pumping out massive heaters like ‘Ballrz‘, and ‘Throw It Up‘, and a massive guest mix for us here, it’s no wonder they’ve amassed the loyal following they have in such a relatively short amount of time. With so much enthusiasm behind every single release of theirs, it was only a matter of time before they graced the world with their debut EP. Thankfully, that day has finally come, and we’ve all been blessed with the presence of their vznary EP, a 4 track slugfest released on Electric Hawk that truly solidifies their place on the bass music map.

Kicking things off with ‘World Is Yours,’ they’re not taking the world by storm, rather it’s more like a tsunami at this point. Putting on full showcase an already tell-tale sound that borders on “gross” territory, this is one track that will flex your sound system harder than Arnold Schwarzenegger at Mr. Olympia. Immaculate layering and eccentric switch-ups leave listeners in a state of perpetual stupefaction, undeniable swag status firmly attained. If the initial portions of the drops don’t satisfy, just wait until you’re introduced to what I can only describe as the “interstellar war cannon.” File this one under “songs to get abducted to,” all feeble human minds are no match for this extraterrestrial bass monstrosity.

Next up is ‘Vznary’, a diabolically brutal sonic arrangement if you’ve ever heard one. Continuing the trend of far-out, space grime, one might mistake these boys for visitors from outer space themselves. The initial drop is another fine example of the heavier side of wook-based dubstep, trading the more traditional dubstep approach for much more cosmic-leaning undulations. The latter drop is much more grating, substituting the impeccably clean wubs for elongated sounds reminiscent of funky construction equipment. Put on your hard hats folks, this one is dangerous.

In basketball, people shout “cash” after shooting to indicate that their shot is assuredly going to hit the mark. In this instance, blurrd vzn’s ‘Cash’ is also right on the money. Wheeling and dealing wild wiggles like no one’s business, this is one piece that’s absolutely punishing. Snapping necks with blatant ease, you’ll need to whip out the insurance waivers for all potential innocent victims of this catastrophe. It’s a borderline crime against humanity that full-scale shows and festivals aren’t happening right now, as this piece would demolish swaths of rabid fans with relative ease.

Closing out an EP in proper fashion is no small task, but one the blurrd vzn boys tackled more than successfully. Capping off vznary with only the most ‘Rockin’ of beats, they’ve doled-out a true belter of a track. ‘Rockin’ is as merciless as it is extraordinarily clean, a treat on the ears, and a problem for the nervous system. Hip-hop flavor wrapped-up in a neat bass-heavy package is a present to all graced with its presence.

What else can I possibly say? blurrd vzn have proven once again that they’re here to play with the absolute best of them. With an uber-successful debut EP and a veritable boatload of IDs on the horizon, the sky is truly the limit for this tremendous duo. Check out Vznary for yourself below!

San Diego, California’s triumphant twosome of Johny Angelo and Oscar Villa, also known by their blurry alter egos blurrd vzn, have been eviscerating sound systems for the better part of two years now with their unique concoction of bombastic bass music. Their first release ‘Ballerz‘ got insane amounts of air-time at last year’s Wakaan fest, and has been steadily rinsed around the music ecosystem ever since. Stacking up releases like an arsenal for an entire army, they’ve consistently shown that they can replicate a pristine degree of production quality, while also keeping that same gritty, grimy, gross aesthetic that is oh-so-appealing to the ears. This group has been one that we’ve had our eyes on for quite some time now, and we have the fantastic news today that they’ve now become the 128th installment of our guest mix + interview series. You can expect nothing but the hottest of beats from this guest mix, with an absolutely ludicrous amount of unreleased music. To all the fans, you really don’t want to miss this one. Check out the full interview and their guest mix for us below!

Where did you both grow up? And how did that area/community help shape you into who you are today?

We both grew up in San Diego, California. Growing up here definitely showed us that life can be rough at times, but having a positive outlook can make a huge difference.

What first inspired you guys to start creating music?

Both of our older brothers were really heavily into music whether it be producing or djing so definitely seeing that growing up sparked something inside of us.

How long have you guys been friends? And when did you start producing together?

We’ve been friends for about 10 years now and we started the blurrd vzn project about 2 years ago.

What was it about heavy bass music that got you wanting to start making it in the first place?

One aspect that got us into bass music is the similarities it has with hip hop music. We both were heavy into producing hip hop music so when we saw the similarities or how producers would mix hip hop with bass music , that kinda sold us into the word of bass music.

Your latest release ‘Jewelz’ is an absolute belter of a track! Can you tell us a little about the creative process behind it?

We had that first drop made for a while and we weren’t sure if we liked it or not. But we started messing with the drop and kinda realized “oh we might have something here,” so we decided to make a second drop. But we wanted the second drop to be a complete switch-up of the first and wanted to make it as unique as possible, so we threw in the house vibes and then brought it back to the trap.

What artists do you listen to outside of electronic music?

MF Doom, A$AP Rocky, Tyler The Creator, Timbaland, J Dilla, all of TDE, and Flying Lotus.

Who are some of your guys’ favorite acts to see live?

For sure Excision, Flume, Peekaboo, UZ and of course Flying Lotus .

You have an EP dropping soon! Can you give us some insight as to what we should expect, and the inspiration behind the project?

Expect a lot of hip hop influence and freeform sound design. And we wanted this EP to kinda give people an inside look of the mind(s) of blurrd vzn. A couple songs were produced after certain tragedies that happened to us this year so this EP kinda helped us as well push through and stay strong.

Walk us through the guest mix you guys did for us today!

So the mix starts off with a lot of freeform sprinkled with our interpretation of trap music, followed by hip hop inspiration throughout. Then it gets a little heavier with tons of trap bangers that we love and then we end it off with some of our heavier IDs. We hope you guys enjoy the mix! We really appreciate all the opportunities FUXWITHIT has given us and for that we will be forever grateful.

With their tracks being regularly rinsed by some of the brightest minds in the industry at Wakaan Music Festival last October, regular rotation of their pieces would surely become the new norm. Now, they’ve aimed to pile more shells into their veritable ID cannon with their latest monstrosity ‘Throw It Up,’ which we’ve have the pleasure of premiering right here on FUXWITHIT.

What on earth could be a better combo for people that want to get wild than Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz and absolutely disgusting bass? If you couldn’t come up with anything, boy do the Blurrd Vzn gang have you set. ‘Throw it Up’ is a hardcore adrenaline shot to the dome neatly packaged into a 3 minute and 30 second time-frame, packed to the brim with individuality and aggression. The pre-drop vocals will have you intensely thrusting your arms skyward as your neck quickly descends downward, making it a perfect prayer stance to bask in the adulterous beats descending on your existence. The switch-ups vary from crunchy consciousness-blenders to immobilizing, sanity-erasing pools of goopy bass. If you’re a fan of bone-shaking booty-quaking big-time bumps, this is it chief. Check out ‘Throw It Up’ for yourself below!

San Diego boys Blurrd vzn have been slicing and dicing heavily experimental beats for the better part of a year now, garnering major support from Spicy Bois head honcho MeSo amongst others. With a focus on individuality and broadcasting their sound to as many ears as possible, they’ve honed their productions to pristine condition. Wild, weird, and wonderful, their tracks will catch you off balance, making a permanent lean on your vertebrae. Today, we’ve had the pleasure of premiering a variation to their very first release ‘Ballerz,’ with the titanic ‘Ballerz VIP.’

You’re immediately welcomed into this track with a dark, ominous tone, quickly followed by the introduction of the vocals “ballers can’t compare to this Gucci wristband, I walk in the club with a couple couple couple grand, don’t give me bad looks I’ll give you the backhand.” Getting the backhand is exactly what you’ll receive, as the first drop is tremendously large, the very last vocals being “ballers can’t compare,” and that’s the absolute truth. Get out your rain boots because this track isn’t dripping, but rather pouring swag forth from each note. With a mixture of aggressive experimental undertones and trappy switch-ups, this piece will surely send you into a frenzy. An alien voice states “what the fuck” right before the 2nd drop, a warning that your consciousness is about to take an express joyride in a UFO straight to saucy flavor-town.

With only a few released tracks and an already concrete aesthetic, Blurrd vzn have the chance to expand upon their already impressive stylings in any way they choose. If their latest release is any indication of what they have coming next, all fans of hard and alien bass music are in for a major treat. But for today, make sure to check out their ‘Ballerz VIP’ for yourself below and grab a free download!
