Boombox Cartel are iconic. Ever since they blew us away back in 2015 with ‘B2U’, the Cartel’s strength and diversity has only increased. From the breakout smash ‘Supernatural’ with QUIX to the debut CARTEL EP, and the mega anthem that is ‘NEW WIP,’ everything Boombox releases is pure heat.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating the follow-up to CARTEL, and CARTEL II is almost here. We got our first sample of the project with ‘Máquina,’ a beautiful but fierce banger last year. Following with even greater impressiveness came ‘Shadow’ with Moody Good & Calivania. The gripping and emotive track is assured to get you in your feels without letting off the gas. Proving the best was yet to come, the JID assisted ‘Reaper’ raised the bar to new heights last week. Truly the collaboration we didn’t know we NEEDED, it’s nothing short of murderous. The Dreamville emcee skates over the track with killer bars as Boombox matches the energy perfectly. The drops are primed to dominate festivals and clubs with menacing bass and filthy sound design. That’s not even half of what CARTEL II promises, and I can assure you that the remaining tracks do not disappoint.

Hot off ‘REAPER’ and ahead of CARTEL II we caught up with Americo to discuss the upcoming EP, collaborating with JID, the past year, space between projects, dream rap collabs and much more. Check out the full interview below.

How has the last year impacted you personally?

One of the craziest years of my life. The toughest and most inspiring at the same time.

I always liked making beats and demos on flights and greenrooms and not having that slowed my creativity a bit.

Has the time away from touring changed the way you create music? For better or worse?

I think for the worst, not being able to experience crowds, busy airports and other social environments that inspire me to write. I always liked making beats and demos on flights and greenrooms and not having that slowed my creativity a bit.

What was the writing process like on CARTEL II? How do you and Jorge go about collaborating on a body of work?

It’s been a crazy ride to get this album right. It’s a ton of brainstorming and demoing tracks at shows that really help with the feedback of each song. Jorge and I have been making music together for over 10 years and it’s been a cozy vibe having a 2nd pair of ears involved. That’s my homie and I love working with him.

It’s been 4 years since you released the first CARTEL EP. Can you speak to the gap between the projects?

Music you’re proud of takes time, I really enjoy playing out ideas/demos for the fans at shows and build from there. The feedback/energy a crowd gives is one of the most important things I take into consideration when I write music. I owe the fans everything.

I won’t stop till I work with Drake, Travis, or Kendrick.

You’re no stranger to rap collaborations having worked with artists like MadeinTYO, Desiigner & JID. Who’s the one rapper you’re dying to get into the studio with? What draws you to want to work with them?

I won’t stop till I work with Drake, Travis, or Kendrick. What draws me to work with them is to close the circle with the ‘trap’ genre. If you go back about 10 years to the beginning of Boombox, the hip-Hop/rap community scene inspired our sample selection and drums. It gave us so much inspiration and all I can do is give back to the community and keep building.

How did you connect with JID for ‘Reaper’? Can you tell us about how the track came together?

That ID was just a playout for the longest time, it was never the goal to release it. Ever since I opened DDLM2 with it, people loved it. I kept playing it on a couple tours and it just snowballed like I’ve never seen before. ‘Jefe’ had some hype but this one was just something else. Maybe I should’ve dropped it back then, but the track felt empty. I’ve been a fan of JID for a while now and thought he would be the only one to match the energy so I reached out. With our busy tour schedules, it made it difficult to record the track. But when we did, COVID hit so we had to wait a bit longer to release.

Is ‘DIA DE LOS MUERTOS 5’ truly the final installment of the series? If so, why end it now?

5 seems like the perfect number to finish it off.

You have a massive show scheduled for September at the Shrine in LA. How good does it feel to finally be returning to live shows? What are you most excited about around live performances returning?

I forgot how to DJ so this fall will be fun. I seriously can’t wait.

Has success changed the way you make music?

The time touring keeps me out of my studio I would say.

What do you want fans to get out of your music?

Whatever they need, man. Whatever they feel.

Keep going – nobody owes you shit…

Any final words of wisdom?

Keep going – nobody owes you shit, love your parents, fuck the migra, and god bless.

This past and even current year has been a huge struggle for all of us. Overcoming obstacles and inner battles were some of our toughest challenges yet. But KRANE and his newest project, Getting Better are the perfect examples of why we should keep on fighting and striving for peace. Reading his post on Twitter about the project, he explains his own war of emotions and internal conflicts. But for him to make this next big step and staying true to his work makes this album one of the most heartfelt works this year. And with the help of Boombox Cartel, Panama, B. Lewis and more, he’s broken through walls of doubt and fear to the highest degree. Ending up with a gorgeous result.

Getting Better knows how to keep your mind and soul at ease. Incorporating his lush and highly admired integrity and creativity has made this journey simply unforgettable. You won’t want each track to end due to the sheer force of blissful melodies and the aura surrounding it all. Making the listener want to replay it again and again. To truly feel the message he’s trying to portray through sound design and lyrical content. It’s as if he’s opening the gates for a better tomorrow right through your senses. What’s so exciting is how he’s managed to take different genres into his own palms and incorporate his touch of gold. Creating countless amounts of memories for the future. From future bass, garage, and even an indie style song, there’s no telling what’s going to happen next.

So make sure to go support KRANE and his newest album, Getting Better by streaming everywhere via Dim Mak.

But we’re excited to announce they’re back and better than ever. Their new single ‘All Again’ is out now on all streaming platforms. These trap pioneers are no strangers when it comes to emotional atmospheres and heavy sound design. They both know how to tap into the hearts and souls of their listeners. And to see them come together for a long-awaited piece is exciting.

‘All Again’ is a love letter and honoring of emotional music in general. The balance between both styles is clear and received nicely. From the euphoric introduction, to the dreamy chorus consisting of classic future bass chords to define their friendship through sound. The journey keeps the listener invested and one with the melodies and rhythm. A wonderful introduction back into the spotlight from these two. This is a track many will adore and have on repeat.

‘All Again’ will be stuck in your hearts and soul. Both sides went out of their ways to deliver nothing but passion and integrity when creating this work of art. Make sure to go support them by streaming the single on Spotify, SoundCloud and more. We’re excited to hear what they create next.

The track opens up with some monstrous horns belting a melody under Desiigner’s vocals, preparing us for the carnage that’s about to be unleashed. Dropping into a classic trap styled drop, these guys aren’t holding back. After a melodic tropical breakdown, we build back up into a moombahton oasis that quickly turns back into a trap influenced section of this second drop, making it obvious that these guys had a blast tossing this track back and forth until it reached perfection. Leaving us feeling good, ‘Drip’ takes a future bass turn for the finale of this monster of a track. Be sure to check it out, as it’s definitely something you wont want to miss.

With so many hit tracks played by artists like RL Grime, Ekali and more, Boombox Cartel is no stranger to making festival hits. Although the title leads listeners to believe this is a work in progress, Boombox Cartel has definitely fleshed out the entire track with their unique style of aggressive bass music.

‘New WIP’ begins with hip-hop elements and MadeinTYO rapping, apparently upgrading from Ubering everywhere, to getting a brand new whip. It doesn’t take long for Boombox Cartel to make a U-turn and take the track in a dark, almost dubstep direction. The heavy bassline is countered by an incredible use of negative space, giving the wubs plenty of space to do what they do best; almost shattering your speakers. Right before the second drop, Boombox Cartel creates a fill that is signature to his sound, leading back into the gritty, heavily distorted bassline from the first drop. Check it out below.

After teasing it months earlier, bringing on huge demand for its release, the LA duo finally give their fans what they want.

The majestic opening for the original becomes even grander with the addition of rolling percussions, right before its innocent, playful drop undergoes a shrill and crunchy makeover. Throw in a heavy Ice Cube sample, and you’ve got a party-set, future-trap banger ready to tear through the air and instantly bring the place to life. If you’re feeling the hype for this one, then don’t sleep on that download!

Boombox Cartel have been killing the game. ‘Supernatural’ was easily one of the biggest and baddest tunes of 2016 and their recent Mr. Carmack flip has slaughtered stages throughout this year. Building upon their success comes their massive EP Cartel. The 5 track offering is a sampler of the duos incredible signature style. ‘Phoenix’ opens the project with a cinematic flair that burns slow and builds into an emotional peak that draws influence from DnB, future bass and club music. The outro pulls elements from ‘Jefe’ forward allowing the perfect lead in to the second track. With a Lil Jon sample and earth shattering bass this track practically defines what a banger is in 2017. ‘Alamo’ strikes a balance between moving and madness. Shoffy’s vocals are nothing short of stunning while the drops are straight up abusive. ‘Dem Fraid’ sees dance hall with raw trap for a sound that’s something like Major Lazer meets Mr. Carmack. Closing things out comes the QUIX assisted ‘Widdit’. The ethereal opening might mislead you but I assure you it is anything but delicate. The sunset sound is quickly obliterated by a section that sounds like a dozen robotic ninja’s sword fighting in a warehouse. All-in-all Cartel cements Boombox Cartel’s status as one of the hottest production duos in the game right now. Stream it below and grab it via Mad Decent.

Boombox Cartel are beasts. Their QUIX assisted monster ‘Supernatural’ was one of the biggest tracks of 2016 (#9 on our list) and they’re showing no signs of slowing up. Today they return with an absolutely murderous flip of Mr. Carmack’s remix of Kaaris’ ‘Chargé’. Yeah, this is the re-remix. The intensity and richness of the horns could open a medieval…
