Journeying down a path of undiscovered knowledge, Brainrack, Eyezic and ALLEYCVT combine sheer will and strength to form their newest single, ‘Eyes Closed.’ An instant festival anthem containing nothing but gorgeous characteristics. Taking their unique abilities and carefully weaving them into a blanket of hope. Ready to leave your jaw dropped from beginning to end.

Known for his filthy and grimy sound design, Brainrack has been impressing listeners and colleagues all within the underground. From nasty bass leads, powerful drums, and intoxicating arrangements, he’s taking no prisoners and showcasing real grit through sound. And with the help of labels such as SubCarbon, Partica Artist Group, and more, he’s making his way to the top with every step. Stopping at nothing from achieving his goals as a musician.

As for Eyezic, his iconic mark within the industry is glistening brighter than ever. His signature leads and storytelling through frequencies are truly one of a kind. Shaping his vision into a complete treasure. Incorporating feelings of emotion you never thought existed. The melody guru never fails to impress and always delivers to the highest degree. Creating his own world of peace and persistence all under one brand. A glowing safe haven for all. No matter what tune of his you put on, your heart will be pumped with happiness and everlasting confidence.

And if you love airy tones and silky smooth lyrics, then do not sleep on ALLEYCVT. Her versatile range through the power of the voice is unlike anything else. Filled with attitude and pure passion, her discography is a gold mine of gems. She’s a name you will not forget. And once you put these icons together, you’ll be hypnotized and inspired by their organic teamwork.

‘Eyes Open’ is the key needed to open up the gate to the future. It’s an instant game-changer that pushes the electronic realm to brand new territories. All of their styles work together in perfect harmony. Nothing ever feels rushed or out of place. It’s a carefully treated work of art that will last more than a lifetime. From Eyezic’s classic chord creations to Brainrack’s heavy bass leads, it’s a collaboration we’ve all needed. And to top it all off, ALLEYCVT’s performance is immaculate in every sense. She really brought it home with her powerful lyrics and heart-wrenching tones. Elevating the track to new heights. From beginning to end, you’ll want this once-in-a-lifetime feeling to stay with you.

So if you love a power combo of heavy and melodic bass music, then this is the song for you. Bravo to everyone part of this incredible project. Support them all by streaming ‘Eyes Closed’ everywhere via Subsidia!

Kindred-spirited noisemakers that met via the power of the internet, Alex Kennedy and Matthew Vaughan, or Brainrack and Veepot respectively, have been fighting back against the musical grain, putting emphasis on idealistic and unique approaches to sound. Recycling his name from his Call of Duty trick-shot montage days, Veepot loves to keep things rolling, including making banger after banger. Using their friendship as the fuel for their collaborative artistic fire, they’ve already had one successful tag-team effort in the form of ‘Eliminate,’ a monstrous banger of lethal proportions. Now, they’re right back at it, this time joining forces with Partica Artist Group to bring a track that’s utterly ‘Coo Coo.’

First starting its life as a remix of Dabow’s ‘Ole‘, ‘Coo Coo’ has evolved into something utterly dangerous. Getting you groovy right off the bat, the vocal loop “Choppa going coo coo,” greets the build and whisks your mind right along with it. The first drop is this delightful heavy trap styling that toes the line with dubstep, creating a romp-shaking throw-down of a good time. The latter drop goes even harder, wasting no time and succinctly going for the kill shot. The sound design is top-notch, and the energy is addictive and electric, sonic rifles being the picture that’s created in one’s mind.

Coming from the UK, but having a majority of his fan base in the U.S. and other countries, one of Veepot’s biggest goals is to start playing shows out here when everything calms down. Even though show-wise the scene isn’t huge across the pond, a blooming underground producer community is on the rise, featuring the likes of VDKA. OWTLAW, Nimda, In-Shinku, Ghoulish, Fairsmooth, and Qwirk. Be on the lookout for all these immense talents, and check out ‘Coo Coo’ for yourself below!

Philadelphia native Alex Kennedy is a man on a singularly-focused mission to move people through sound under his Brainrack production alias. Much like a pot that’s left on simmer, his releases have been steadily bubbling in the underground community, an emphasis on overall production quality and curating a style that assuredly doesn’t fit in any box. Taking original inspiration from screamo bands and exceedingly heavy music, he’s incorporated this aesthetic into his live shows for an experience that elicits maximum destructive capabilities. We’ve seen a lot of potential in this rising artist, so we recently did an interview with him about his journey so far and what he has in store, along with receiving a guest mix loaded with IDs from him and many of his friends. Check them out below!

What was the inspiration behind the name “Brainrack” and what does the project mean to you?

The inspiration behind the name Brainrack doesn’t go too deep. One weekend back in college my friends and I were partying and at one point I said “my brain is racked,” and then my one friend called me Brainrack. Fast forward a year or two into producing/djing, I wanted to create an alias that would not only stand out but would enable me to create a brand. Brainrack came back to me and it felt so right. This project is something I created myself. Of course, with the help from some amazing people so far, but something that I created from nothing. It might not have felt this way in the beginning, but I now believe that this is my purpose in life. If I didn’t have music or this project in my life, I feel that I would be truly lost.

It might not have felt this way in the beginning, but I now believe that this is my purpose in life. If I didn’t have music or this project in my life, I feel that I would be truly lost.

Walk me through your musical journey up to this point. Did you start with an instrument and gradually work into electronic productions? Or did you dive head-first into making music via a computer?

My musical journey began freshman year of high school when my friend Walter showed me the band From First to Last. I was instantly in love with hardcore and screamo music and started going to shows every month. Shortly after that I got a bass guitar and began teaching myself to play, growing up I had always tried to play different instruments but nothing ever stuck. I played in a band with some of my friends for about a year or so, we played our high school’s rock club show my junior year for about 50 of our parents and friends. My senior year Walter showed me Caspa, Rusko, Excision, and it felt like this was the music I had been waiting to hear my whole life. From there I started going to dubstep shows instead of screamo shows. I transferred to Temple University In Philly my sophomore year from a community college in Pittsburgh where I grew up. I started DJing Temple house parties immediately when I got there, and a year later I knew that I wanted to be a producer and not just a DJ. I started producing shortly after that about six and a half years ago and I love it to this day.

What’s the significance behind the TV headed character in your logo?

For some reason when I came up with the name Brainrack I kept thinking about TVs being involved in visuals or branding. Just like my name this also not too deep, and the concept of a person with a TV for a head is certainly not original, but when I brought this Idea to my friend Jon Swartz of Black Ink Art who drew the original character he instantly came up with the idea to do a boy with a TV head. You won’t catch me wearing a TV head helmet any time soon but I loved the idea of my brand and visual content being based around a character like that.

I don’t really know what my style is exactly and I think that’s a good thing, it allows me to not get stuck in one genre but this project has gotten heavier and heavier as it has progressed and I don’t see that stopping.

What artists have directly influenced your current style?

My number one influence is the underground. There are so many kids out here killing it that no one knows about, if you spend some time digging through SoundCloud you can always find some new stuff. If I had to name a few artists that are directly influencing my current style I would say Stuca, NXSTY, and Leotrix. I don’t really know what my style is exactly and I think that’s a good thing, it allows me to not get stuck in one genre but this project has gotten heavier and heavier as it has progressed and I don’t see that stopping. Some of my friends that have influenced me are Mursa, Veepot, Blvk Sheep, Ruvlo, and Holly. I have been fortunate to become friends with so many people around the world through music but these are a few of the homies that deserve everything that’s coming to them. Check them out when you have a chance!

The Philly scene is one of the best out there. This city is overflowing with musicians of every genre and the bass and dubstep scene are thriving here. This city has shaped my music from the start and has enabled me to be 100% myself. The fans are loyal here and they go hard.

What’s the music scene like in Philly and how has it affected your style?

The Philly scene is one of the best out there. This city is overflowing with musicians of every genre and the bass and dubstep scene are thriving here. This city has shaped my music from the start and has enabled me to be 100% myself. The fans are loyal here and they go hard. Since my music/performances are on the heavier side I have been able to build a solid foundation for this project here. There is also a large number of bass producers here in Philly, anyone from just starting out to touring full time. This has given me the opportunity to not only meet some amazing artists but also become close friends with them. Having a network of artists that your friends with and support you can really make a positive impact on your career. I have never been anywhere like Philly and I’m proud to call it my home, for the moment at least.

What makes music special to you?

Music started as my passion but has turned into a high that I chase and dream about. I used to always be partying in college but after I graduated and things progressed with this project I just simply stopped caring about that stuff and began to really focus on Brainrack. It’s hard to explain but sometimes when I’m producing or on stage, I get these glimpses of pure joy and bliss, feelings and experiences that I wouldn’t trade for the world.

You have a collab with Veepot coming out very soon, how did you guys get connected initially?

Matt and I met on SoundCloud at least 2 or 3 years ago and when I heard his bloccd remix I hit him up! We have been working on music ever since, and he’s one of the favorite producers to work with. This kid is some seriously overlooked talent. If you don’t know Veepot get to know him. Matt’s sound design, mix, and master quality blow me away every time I hear something new he’s working on. Our newest collab will be coming out on Partica Artist Group in April, GO LISTEN TO VEEPOT!

Any other big collabs in the works for you?

I’m working on a few right now but I have been working on a collab with Shizz Lo for about two and a half years now that we should be wrapping that up before summer. Some other collabs I’m working on right now are with the Architekt and Brightside.

What are some of your hobbies outside of music?

I have been a skater my whole life, however, I have been slacking the past few years. Other than that I love chilling with friends and family, doing hot yoga, going to concerts, and eating snacks!

Any big plans for the rest of 2020?

So far, I have my first Philly direct support gig with Getter May 15th, I have been working for this one for about six years putting in my time here in the city. Other than that I will be playing a few festivals and shows, as well as releasing a bunch of music!

Walk us through what people should expect from your guest mix for us today!

Genuineness and authenticity are two traits that Philadelphia production expert Brainrack holds to the utmost significance. Feeling as if current trends and unnecessary focus towards what colleagues were doing was starting to blur his vision for his own sound, he made a deliberate effort to unplug and realign himself.

“I felt like I was just making music to compete with other artists, this made me realize that I needed to get back to my roots and really focus on the quality of my production and most importantly, having fun again. This track is the first of many to demonstrate the time and effort I have taken in this period of time where I have been focusing on why I started doing this in the first place,” he shares regarding his downtime and positive outlook for the future.

While the time away resulted in a lessened presence for Brainrack on social media, his presence in the studio is more than depicted by the evolution and fine-tuning his production has benefited from during his time away. Building from his ceaseless work ethic and a knack for experimentation, his latest release ‘I’m Like’ is a brilliant depiction of this transformation in style, which builds upon the superior aspects of previous releases, while demonstrating a clear progression in overall production.

“This track depicts the progression of the overall quality of my tracks that I have been striving to reach for a long time but what I want to focus on here is a sound design. The design on the leads of each drop came from further sculpting one my favorite serum patches that I created this past year and combining that with new techniques that, to be honest, came from just messing around and truly having fun creating new sounds,” Brainrack shares with an invigorated sense of pride in his work.

While a lot is truly left up to the preference of the listener, it can be truly invigorating to hear from the eyes of the artist what they envisioned the track providing to the audience. Brainrack reveals a world of behind-the-scenes creativity in his vivid depiction of ‘I’m Like’ as a setting in a novel:

“This story is set in a dark and eerie place having a few key sounds that drive the story of the track. First, there is a tension or dark entity that drives through the entire track placing you on a path where the outcome is uncertain but you can’t help but follow. You can feel something coming but you cannot decipher whether it’s good or evil, all you know is that it’s coming and you can’t seem to control it like the entity has grabbed ahold of you. As you make your way to the climax you have now given the entity full control over your destiny, after a brief moment of silence you are immersed in a wave of controlled chaos that you were afraid of on the journey but now that you are here it feels like you were meant to be in this place the whole time. As the climax breaks you are released from the controlling grip of the dark entity and are left wanting more and wondering if you will ever make it back to that place.”

Despite the at times deafening noise that can stem from the budding popularity in electronic music coupled with the constant distractions afforded by social media, Brainrack was able to quiet his thoughts and calm his nerves, revealing what a ceaseless desire to achieve can allow.
