If you have never been to Red Rocks and are a fan of live music, put it on your list! This is a venue that brings out the most ferocious of fans, but also inspires performers from across genres to give performances here their all. HDYFEST 2017 was nothing short of a wicked, dope show – a cornucopia of dank modern music.

There were some complaints that echoed through out message boards, and throngs of attendees. One was the weather. It was cold and rainy, and I was worried about lightening (which is the line for Red Rock’s safety), but as soon as I was passed security, there was not a drop. The other issue was that there was no announced, or released set list, and for fans of What So Not, there was disappointment if you were not there when door’s opened. This also went for those who had purchased tickets to see Gryffin.

I was able to make it for Gucci Mane‘s complete set which was steady. There was an element of throwback-style in Mane’s performance, since it was just his DJ and himself holding down the stage. Mane rhymed and flowed like the professional that he is, and definitely warmed up the crowd on the chilly night. He performed some of my favorites including ‘Freaky Gurl’ and ‘Pills’.

Next up was one of FUXWITHIT’s favorites, Branchez, who killed it with a dynamic and emotional set. It was amazing to hear ‘Feel It’ live. I was particularly impressed by the visual graphics and transitions that Branchez chose to set the stage – they were seamlessly in line with his hyper-pop style. My favorite sequences were the underwater scenes, which seems to be a rip from Beyonce’s pregnancy announcement, but they were still sexy and entrancing.

Flosstradamus’s presence was first made known by the construction of a pyramid on stage in front of a false-cliff where I knew Floss would disseminate some sort of reality-altering bass sounds. The intricate stage set up really made this feel like a production, but also served a purpose of creating a holographic type of experience. During one of many disgusting remixes, a cartoon koi fish danced over Floss’s shadowy figure inside the pyramid and then jumped up into the background screens to ride the crest of anime styled waves.

Floss’s hype was also amazing, promoting 420-friendly taunts, and complaints about how we were hot-boxing him inside the pyramid. His playful personality shown through all the effects, and proved why the HDYNATION is as loyal as they are.

Some of the remixes that he shredded through were Afroman’s ‘Because I Got High’, Pharrell and Snoop Dogg’s ‘Drop It Like Its Hot’, Migos ‘Bad & Boujee,’ the classic nineties Alice DJ ‘Do You Think Your Better Off Alone’, Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’, Flume and Tove Lo’s ‘Say It, Daddy Yankee’s ‘Gasolina’. My all time favorite though was Biz Markie’s ‘You Got What I Need’.

HDYFEST 2017 was in the perfect location since the amphitheater is on the side of the Rocky Mountains, making the audience feel like they are perched on the edge of world as you look out onto the sparkling prairie, and up into the twinkling stars. The space is ideal for a bass-dripping rave like this one, and I am already looking forward to next year. Here’s until 2018!

Here in Colorado, the spring is time for warmer weather, but also the first shows of the concert/festival season, and of course 4/20.

For the past few years since Colorado became officially 4/20 friendly, Flosstradamus has been putting on a killer annual show to celebrate the holiday that’s greener than St. Patty’s and the dedicated HDYNation. The name says it all, HDYFEST, and is a way for bass fans to get together and party at one of the most famous venues in the country, Red Rocks Amphitheater located in Morrison, CO.

Less than a week away Gucci Mane, What So Not, Gryffin, and Branchez are all set to take the stage, and drop deafening amounts of bass. Tickets are still available, but are expected to go quickly, as this has event has been massively successful in the past. Stay tuned for a full report on all the dankness this year.

Flosstradamus has been the hum of the hive lately with the original duo’s split and Autobot’s final form as the leader of the HDYNATION. After the amicable split between Chicago natives, Flosstradamus is stirring the pot within the electronic and trap music community with waves of anticipation. With a deep connect to the fan base, and high tension due to recent events, each release from Floss’s bank of bass heavy bangers has been greeted with sighs of relief. The announcement of Flosstradamus’ return to Colorado’s Red Rock’s Amphitheater has ignited some salivating excitement.

Those who who have not attended a performance do not really understand what all the hype is about, but those who have know what is to come. The HDYNATION includes the HDY lifestyle; a culture that has evolved over the last ten years and has put emphasis on collaborating ideas and styles between the producer and audience. Social media has been key in facilitating these interactions, and creating a fan base that is inclusive, laid back, and open-minded. Part of their open-mindedness includes the support of recreational marijuana, which is probably why the HDYNATION has one of their biggest get-togethers in a state that has legalized it.

The open philosophy is also what spurns the creativity of the performance aspect of Floss’s music. A partnership with Virgil Abloh, the dude who Kanye West collaborated with to create his set up for his Yeezus tour, is who helped create last year’s tour theme that was centered around a jagged and grueling post apocalyptic vibe that truly went above and beyond any other DJ’s LED screen set up. The theatrical elements of Flosstradamus’ electronic and trap music performances are what keep pulling in more and more fans.

Red Rocks is a unique venue that was used for the event last year as well. It is a natural amphitheater that was historically used by native tribes as a meeting place. Now you can see many different types of performances here and still be close to nature. I have had the pleasure of attending a few shows here in the past, and I felt that event staff are very professional.

Now for the details! The line up includes What So Not, Gryffin, and Branchez. Tickets for pre-sale are available at 10 AM MST on Monday 1/30 and will be available to the general public at 10 AM MST on Friday 2/3. Visit HDYFEST.com for more information about this event and for information on how to win a special prize that includes hanging out with Flosstradamus, himself.

Branchez, a “Producer tryna write hits”, has not come across my radar before but clearly he should have (he is a FUXWITHIT favourite after all).

Branchez, a “Producer tryna write hits”, has not come across my radar before but clearly he should have (he is a FUXWITHIT favourite after all). Posting tracks since 2012, Branchez has released another stellar remix, ‘Feel It’ with GTA and What So Not.

‘Feel It’ has a little bit of everything. Cute vocals with clear lyrics, ethereal breathiness, and aggressive percussion. What is really impressive is how the edges of each compartment blend together to create a flow that is rare to stumble upon. The quirky creativity of this producer comes through in his surprising sound selection. His ability to bring shattering glass clips and deep drum lines together makes for an easy listen that will not get repetitive. This is a track to dance to with its upbeat attitude and multifarious grooves. The soft and muddled bass is flicked over and over with snapping snares and really sets the tone for some stellar pop-and-locking, maybe even a moon-walk here or there. Branchez’s remix brings bass intensity to a song that is semi-sweet and the final product is a track you really can feel.

Late last year Branchez connected with Santell for the intoxicating, aptly titled ‘Dreamer’. As it turns out the track happens to be the first single off Branchez 222 EP which is out today. The project kicks off with the sparkly ‘Dreamer’ but only gets deeper and darker from there. ‘IDRK’ is a hazy cut that blends R&B and downtempo club feels with excellence. ‘Don’t Matter’ is even more looped out, packing an underlying happiness that is mixed with a near sinister soundscape. The finale ‘Next’ packs a similar vibe to the previous two. It’s an ethereal expedition that is driven by a stellar vocal feature. A layer of undeniable beauty is backed with strong instrumentation for a feel that’ll have you lost in a dream. 222 is definitely not what I was expecting, but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful. Press play and drift into 222.

As 2015 wraps up, it’s time to reflect on another incredible year musical. To do so, we’re counting down the top 100 songs of the year. In developing this list we weighed each track against the following criteria: overall song quality, impact and popularity, and support (blogs, charts, DJs, etc.). We will be counting down 20 tracks per day and today we bring you 100-81. If you dig our selections be sure to share. If you disagree with some of the picks let us know why in the comments below. Without further adieu we present our picks for the top 100 tracks of 2015.

100. Choppa Dunks – Fade

100 bpm twerk anthems with pitched down rap vocals are nothing new or terribly original. Yet somehow Choppa Dunks managed to make ‘Fade’ feel incredibly fresh. Something about the swagged bars and distorted low-end bass make this inescapable and absolutely murderous live. It’s the type of low end bass that you feel in your chest even if you’re listening with headphones on. It reverberates deep into your soul and that’s something special.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/192669244″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

99. G-Eazy – Random

G-Eazy hit a lot of cities in 2015 performing music from his debut album with little snippets of singles from his latest. One of the illest tunes from his latest offering is ‘Random‘ and trust us, this definitely deserves a spot on the list. The track features an aggressive and ignorant beat and an equally aggressive flow from the Bay area rapper. Though it hasn’t reached new heights in popularity, the track was only fully released recently but was a major hit among his core fan base.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/231028553″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

98. Fetty Wap – 679 feat. Remy Boyz

What a year for the Paterson, New Jersey come up. In 2015, Fetty Wap jumped on the scene with an arsenal of hits, one of which happens to be ‘679’. It technically dropped in 2014, but was re-released with a video in 2015. With a snappy, feel good beat combined with an infectious hook, ‘679’ became a big hit. The track also features some of Fetty’s Remy Boyz including Monty and P-Dice. Of all the verses on this track the clear winner is Monty who brings a very Mase-like flow to open, hold and close out his verse. The melody on ‘679’ feels like early 2000’s stunt type shit but it’s got that 2015 trap flavour with its drum arrangement.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/153330529″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

97. Drake and Future – Jumpman

Both of these artists individually had huge years. Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late went platinum while Future’s DS2 proved that his work ethic matched his consistency in making hits. When the two rappers began hinting towards a collaborative project, the Internet went nuts. Some fans went as far as creating a website that hosted a countdown to said project. However, it was actually revealed through a few Instagram posts from Drizzy and Hendrix that they would release an 11 track collaborative mixtape titled What A Time To Be Alive. The tape dropped September 20th and ‘Jumpman’ instantly became a fan favourite. With Metro Boomin behind the production, Drake and Future stunt all over the beat with one of the year’s catchiest hooks (“Jumpman, Jumpman, Jumpman!”). You can bet this song will still ring off in the new year but it definitely killed in the latter half of 2015. It’s basic AF but you love it and so do we.

96. Lil Dicky – Save Dat Money feat. Fetty Wap and Rich Homie Quan

The most serious funny rapper with the funniest name ever did a track with one of todays biggest hitmakers (Fetty) and Rich Homie Quan – and it killed. Lil Dicky rose to fame throughout 2015 with the help of this single and the incredible music video that came along with it. The rapper used a pop rap beat, added Fetty as the hook man and got half a verse from Rich Homie Quan – blending his marketing chops with his undeniable lyricism and flow.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/209723078″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

95. Milo & Otis – Trap Arms

How can you not like a track dedicated to the genre’s greatest body part dance. In the past few years trap arms have become a global phenomenon, so it’s only right someone dedicated a track to them. With a cinematic intro, a fair bit of humour and a smashing trap drop, this became a certified trap anthem. Arm yourself.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/197301774″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

94. Future – Fuck Up Some Commas

Future had a big year. A phenomenal year. His tracks were everywhere – radio, clubs, cars and social networks. DS2 performed commercially and satisfied critically. When Future dropped ‘Fuck Up Some Commas’ it took a couple weeks for it to bubble to the top of the trap but when it did, it was instantly everywhere. Produced by Southside, ‘Fuck Up Some Commas’ featured a money hungry Future working to earn and spending it all in one night. The catchy hook coupled with a banging trap beat was an easy home run for Future Hendrix.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/185913093″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

93. Braeden Bailey – Legend

Dallas producer Braeden Bailey breathed new life into Drake’s ‘Legend’ with his synth heavy remix, released on the independent producers’ EP Seven. According to Bailey’s Bandcamp page, the producer is “…searching to find a new sound.” Taking some time to look through and listen to said Bandcamp page reveals the work of a strong up-and-comer with solid production abilities and a respectable output. Keep an eye on Braeden Bailey to continue climbing the ranks in the future.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/210268591″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

92. Lady Parts – Samson

What happens when you blend Half Baked samples with abusive percussion and some mind bending sounds? Thankfully Lady Parts decided to find out. ‘Samson’ is a perfect mash of pop culture and raw production that is fully laced. The drum patterns are pure insanity and any time you flip Dave Chappelle successfully you get extra love.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/205616073″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

91. Caribou – Can’t Do Without You (Kidswaste & Manilla Killa Cover)

Taking on Caribou’s ‘Can’t Do Without You’ is no simple task. The original packs so much beauty, emotion and progression that most re-imaginations couldn’t begin to simulate. That said, Manilla Killa & Kidswaste managed to do some major justice. Everything about it is different, from the vocals tones to the melodies. What remains in tact is the deep emotional mood that is implored. Twinkling keys meet tuned vocals and massive future bass drops for a lush 2015 sound.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/221569164″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

90. Riff Raff – Tip Toe Wing In My Jawwdinz (Jauz Remix)

2015 has been a big year for Jauz. With the Bass House subgenre steadily rising in popularity, Jauz’s solid mix of hard hitting house beats with gritty dubstep-like sound design seems to borrow the best of both worlds, as evident in this Riff Raff remix. Jauz makes great use of Riff Raff’s polarizing style by turning his catchy hook into an anchor for the song while sprinkling in rhymes and pieces of verses to give the track some vocal tone. All while shuffling hi-hat rhythms and a fat, womp-y bassline push the track forward with a fun intensity.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/192121815″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

89. Ghastly – Every Night

2015 was a huge breakout year for Ghastly and his strongest offering came in the form of ‘Every Night’. From the gorgeous LA inspired breaks to the massive deep wubs, this track payed homage to the classic house sound all while showcasing the future.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/194234227″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

88. Rowdy Rebel – Computers ft. Bobby Smurda (Vices x Gutta Remix)

You’d be hard pressed to find another track that demonstrates the evolution and pushes the boundaries of what Jersey Club can be. The upbeat intro sets an expectation that is absolutely obliterated as gun-cocks give way to one of the hardest club drops you’ll encounter. The viciousness subsides for just long enough for them to hit it once more with a deeper wonkier section. Add to the fact that this can make a hater fall in love with a Rowdy Rebel & Bobby Smurda track and it’s quite a feat.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/203312044″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

87. Habstrakt – Gimme ft Badjokes

Dubstep seems to be making somewhat of a comeback – possibly related to the rise in popularity of Bass House, a subgenre frequented by some modern dubstep producers that allows wiggle room outside of the usual dubstep tempo and production practices. Habstrakt, a (mostly) dubstep producer, pushes all the right buttons with his track ‘Gimme’; a thumping house track with enough wobbles and metallic synths to satisfy the basshead in us all. By pushing stylistic boundaries and working to create a fusion between traditionally opposed genres, this track, and others like it give us that dark and grimey sound we all know, but in a new package that moves faster and is less alienating than the somewhat undesirable label that dubstep has become in recent years.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/194592764″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

86. Tsuruda x G Jones – Push

When two unique and creative producers like G Jones and Tsuruda team up, you know the result is going to be interesting. While both of these producers had big years and released some solid tracks, this one is by far our favourite for its creativity alone. What starts off as a head-bobbing West-coast style trap beat quickly melds into something much more, utilizing a plethora of interesting sounds and building some serious energy that surely moved more than a few dancefloors in 2015. Keep an eye on both of these producers in 2016 as they will surely continue to reinvent old styles and push the boundaries of whatever genre-labels us woeful music bloggers impart on them.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/200021738″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

85. Jack Ü – Febreze feat. 2 Chainz

Diplo and Skrillex formed their partnership long ago but it was in 2015 where they killed the charts, radio, clubs and festivals with their Jack Ü tracks. ‘Febreze’ featured a hype trap beat complete two verses from 2 Chainz formerly known as Tity Boi. While the horns wail over a combination of epic builds and equally epic drops Chainz spits the hilarious but effective line “I’m the shit, I should have febreze on me”, inspiring the track title and the several vocal chops throughout the track. The duo’s production skill is unquestionable and they shine throughout the year but shine brighter on this track securing the 85th spot in the top 100 – and surely some of the top 20.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/193270670″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

84. Kehlani – The Way (Gladiator Remix)

As Gladiator continued to explore a wide variety of genres in 2015 they’re future R&B rework of Kehlani’s ‘The Way’ was by far their strongest offering. The progression and movement from downtempo to sunshine future bass and back around make this one truly special. The breakdown for Chance’s verse helps to make it a focal point while creating a completely different realm of emotion. Kehlani got remixed a lot this year, but this is the one you need to be listening to.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/208802332″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

83. Branchez – Cuenta

After remaining quiet for most of the year Branchez crept out of the jungle with a fierce mind-fuck of a trap smash. ‘Cuenta’ packs everything from verbal gun shots, to military inspired snare rolls, high-pitched vocal chops and a bazooka of bass. This is the auditory equivalent of chewing too much Khat while wandering through an enemy infested the jungle, but way more fun.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/230155206″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

82. Rihanna – BBHMM (Brenmar x Gutta Remix)

In a year littered with ‘BBHMM’ remixes one stood above them all. The collaborative effort of Brenmar and Gutta took the smash hit to the club. It was as infectious and catchy as the original but took it to new heights. The added Drake samples, vocal chops and immense energy made this an irresistible favourite.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/204086063″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

81. Madeon – You’re On (Feat. Kyan)

Hugo Pierre Leclercq (Madeon) became a viral sensation in 2011 with a YouTube video of him performing a mashup he called ‘Pop Culture.’ It contains almost 40 different songs live on a Novation Launchpad. It’s an impressive example of how remixing and producing can be adapted into a live show.

When his first official album, Adventure, dropped in March, I didn’t have any expectations. I felt that his style was a bit gimmicky, perhaps because of his instrument of choice. Surprisingly enough, Adventure is a cohesive and interesting electronic album; a linear project that gives the impression that it is, in fact, an adventure. From start to finish, key vocal additions and catchy pop arrangements end up contributing to one of my favourite dance albums of all time, and ‘You’re On’ is represents it well.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/180512168″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

As 2014 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on a stellar musical year. To do so, we’ve rounded up the top 50 songs of the year.
As 2014 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on a stellar musical year. To do so, we’ve rounded up the top 50 songs of the year. In developing this list we weighed each track against the following criteria: overall song quality, impact and popularity, and support (blogs, charts, DJs, etc.). We’ve been counting down 10 songs per day and today we’re breaking down tracks 20-11. Don’t forget to sound off in the comments below and look out for the top 10 tomorrow!

20. Flosstradamus – TTU (feat. Waka Flocka Flame)

If you don’t know Flosstradamus, you are truly missing out on some serious head bangers. Not only did this track become one of the biggest anthems for 2014, it also made it to Hollywood and was featured in the sequel to the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill cop dramedy 22 Jump Street. ‘TTU’ features Waka Flocka Flame screaming “turn up” over big drums and loud horns. For about two minutes the track carries the same tempo and then it literally turns up. The joint is an ultimate crowd pleaser and since its release it has appeared at festivals everywhere.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/152831640″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

19. PARTYNEXTDOOR – Recognize (feat. Drake)

You might be asking yourself “damn, these dudes put another OVO artist on this list?” And to answer your question, I speak for all of us when I say “how could we not?” The first signee under the OVO Sound label dropped his second effort this year and the lead single from the joint dominated radio and DJ set lists. ‘Recognize’, also produced by PND, had all the elements of a hit. The beat featured all the drums and hi-hats to please trap heads and the hook and guest verse from Drake featured all the r&b and rap-esque vibes. Coming off his ‘Over Here’ single from last year with Drake, Party had to prove that he was here to stick around and he delivered.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/158721013″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

18. A$AP Mob – Hella Hoes (Thugli Remix)

First and foremost, A&AP Mob is already well known for their trap-like beats and provocative bars. The current kings of ignorant rap tunes get their track remixed by one of the fastest rising producer duos. Thugli have been busy dropping gems and touring across the continent and this ‘Hella Hoes’ remix is the best way to understand their quick rise. Staying true to the original tune, Thugli (Pat Drastik and Tom Wrecks) manage to keep the best vocals of the original and add a ton of harder drums and slapping snares to the beat. The melodious synth is sure to keep you jumping and yelling “I got hella hoes!”

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/162826050″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

17. Branchez – Truth

Branchez burst onto the scene in 2013 with an amazing bootleg of Rihanna’s ‘Stay’. Since then, he has improved with each release. His crowning achievement to date is ‘Truth’. The track effortlessly combines garage bass lines with Jersey club breaks. The simple and gorgeous vocals make it impossible to resist. A testament to the song’s quality, it gained support from some of the hottest DJs out including Skrillex, Zeds Dead, Benzi, RL Grime and many more.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/153549847″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

16. RL Grime – Core

Number 16 on our top 50 list comes from LA based producer RL Grime. Close to the end of the summer, RL Grime prepped the internet for his ‘Void’ LP with his first offering from the upcoming album. ‘Core’ is the quintessential track for any dystopian future flicks for the next two years. The track is extremely well produced and fits so well within the concept of Grime’s Void LP that it’s very hard to ignore. The beat features epic builds and even more epic drops. The loud, alarm-like synth and drums make you feel like you’re fighting a war of epic proportions, while the braggadocious vocal that repeatedly boasts “who do that shit that I do” makes you want to finish your last set when you’re in the gym. This hard hitting track is an undeniable example of RL Grime’s talent.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/158827653″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

15. DJ Sliink x Trippy Turtle x Hoodboi – Sucka Remix

This was a huge catalyst in the explosion of Jersey club in early 2014. With three of the hottest club producers connecting, the track brought Jersey’s sound worldwide. This enabled it to be picked up by a wide variety of DJs and even though it came out at the top of year, it got played hard until the end of summer. There were hundreds of Jersey club remixes of R&B songs but this one really stood out. There’s been debates about the authenticity of artists outside of Jersey adopting the sound, but having one of the biggest New Jersey artists, DJ Sliink, working with Hoodboi (LA) and Trippy Turtle (Norway) helped to demonstrate that good music is all that really matters. Love may be for sucka’s, but this remix most certainly is not.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/129678404″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

14. Ginuwine – Pony (eSenTRIK Remix)

Remixing one of the sexiest club anthems in human history is no easy task. Sure, if you do it right it can be huge, but the expectations are immensely high. Not to worry, eSenTRIK was more than up to the task, seamlessly infusing elements of trap and Jersey club. The energy is far more intense and dare I say the addition of hard kicks and bed squeaks make this even sexier. Gonna get nasty!

13. Jack Ü – Take Ü There

Ever wonder what would happen if two of the biggest and most inventive producers in electronic music were to create a super group and then add the hottest vocalist of 2014 to their track? ‘Take Ü There’ is just that. Keisza’s vocals are addictive and enticing and the beat is wild. The fact that they cut this track in an Ibiza hotel room only makes it that much more awesome. It’s great to see two of the most popular producers resist selling out and focus on pushing music forward. Hats off to Jack Ü.

12. Keys N Krates – All The Time

“And I gotta stay high all the time”. The Toronto trio showcase their keen ability to flip a simple and repetitive sample into something amazing. Reworking Tove Lo’s ‘Habits,’ the trio takes the lyrical content and bends the vocals while recreating the beat. The result is deeply emotional and addictive. Despite its January release this got spins through the summer and still sounds as good as the day it dropped.

11. Common – Rewind That

Easily one of the most emotionally gripping rap songs of 2014. ‘Rewind That’ has Common reflecting on the some of the key relationships throughout his career. The first verses are dedicated to the two producers who he started with: Twilight Tone and No I.D. The stories set the tone, but it’s the verses that explore his relationship with his late friend and collaborator J Dilla that make this so impactful. “I stayed away sometimes, in other words I ran, til one day J brought me this TV stand, it was a gift so I couldn’t refuse it, it came from his heart, I regret I didn’t use it, the lupus got worse and, for what it’s worth, I wanted him to have a Grammy before he left this earth…You never gone, you live forever through song, I feel it when I see ’em with them Dilla shirts on, I know you’re still shining, from heaven you watch me, watch me put this Grammy on the stand you got me.” If you didn’t give this track a few spins, be sure to take it in now. Be forewarned: you will definitely be moved.
