It’s been nearly a decade since Bro Safari & UFO! dropped their iconic Animal LP. The project helped redefine the sound of electronic trap music. With Clockwork they expanded their experimentation delivering a sci-fi epic. After taking some time off, the duo are back with a new EP and collaborative project: ET FINGER. The self-titled project serves as their first body of work under the new moniker. Over the course of 4 tracks, the pair takes listeners on a wild sonic journey that spans a myriad of genres, sounds, and directions.

‘XPER’ serves as the project’s opener. The first few seconds feel like an alien transmission being carefully tuned to the right frequency for human consumption. Breakbeats clash with psychedelic riffs and strange switch-ups for a track that is fully aware of weirdness and doubles down. ‘Flop’ flirts with the idea of being a trap banger while remaining refreshingly off-kilter. It’s mean, brutish, and even mangled at times. What more could you want? Pivoting direction with a sense of finesse comes ‘Skatepark.’ It’s a work of beauty pairing a sense of nostalgia with space travel samples and evolving drum patterns that never stagnate. Just when you feel the ride can’t get any wilder, ‘Ease Up’ closes things off on another level. The first half is deceivingly laidback before entering a rave-ready back half that gets proceedingly filthier. Caution that the final drop might knock you over.

Unique, forward-thinking, and not quite like anything else, ET FINGER is exactly what we’d hoped from Bro Safari & UFO!’s return. Listen below.

What happens when one of the most of the underrated producers out connects with a bass music legend? Today we receive the answer in audio form as BINKS & Bro Safari unite for the four track EP Blissful Patterns on Deadbeats. Both artists are renowned for their abilities to push the envelope within the trap and bass spaces and this project only furthers the fact.

‘Revival’ kicks the project off right, setting the tone with an air of mystique, promise and excitement. The drop is straight futuristic with an upbeat synth that’s spaced out and vibey. Female rap vocals, electric guitars and pulsing low end are sprinkled in the mix for additional flavour.

A true standout within the stellar output is ‘Deliverance.’ Wasting little time, the hypnotic loop gives way to what appears to be a DMX grunt before dropping into thick 808s and snappy drum work. The first half is agressive and gritty yet somehow smooth. A break complete with the sounds of rolling water and birds chirpings provides a fitting bridge to the wavy back half. If the first half of the track sounds like creeping down the block late at night with your windows rattling, the second is cruising the coastline with the top dropped and the sun beaming down.

For those expecting a hard-hitting sound from BINKS & Bro Safari, look no further than ‘Static.’ A distant and looped Weezy vocal comes into focus as the drop hits you with heavy dose of electricity that pulses through your ears and out of your extremities. It’s menacing, intense and increasingly brutish. Easily the hardest and most relentless track on Blissful Patterns.

Closing things off comes ‘Ignition,’ a nearly three minute sonic adventure. Drifting into the neuro realm, this one is jarring and complex. The gentle strings and ghostly vocals draw listeners into another dimension. A dimension where sound bends space and time. It’s a discombobulating journey that will have you questioning reality. Not to worry, they bring back the guitar for the outro to leave you with some sense of sanity…

Blissful Patterns is a diverse and enthralling trek through trap and bass. Bro Safari & BINKS once again remind listeners why they are are at the top of their game.

Pairing gritty sound design with that signature moombah bounce and the addictive vocals “Lunatic, psycho, mothefucker,” this was on repeat back in 2011 and still hits to this day.

The ATLiens are among the best at having a keen acuity for what’s hot in the underground – just take a listen to their Lost Lands set and you’ll quickly understand. Their Ghost Planet EP dating back to July perfectly embodied how the trap scene has evolved over the years, while also hinting at what the future holds. Continuing along this theme, the masked duo have enlisted what can simply be described as the A-list of up-and-comers in the underground bass scene to remix the Ghost Planet EP, and fans are in for a real treat.

A versatile, eleven-track endeavour, Ghost Planet Remixes (Part 1) is bound to please a wide array of electronic music lovers. Dubstep fans can rejoice at the contributions from OG Nixin and Al Ross, while heavy house and electro fans can go crazy to Jacknife and Lektrique’s remixes. Sandwiched in between these two genres is an eclectic mix of gnarly bass from Leotrix, Moore Kismet, Bro Safari and BINKS, experimental weirdness from Bishu and Code:Pandorum, and wonky freeform from Space Wizard and FrostTop.

Don’t get us wrong; not all the remixers are new names to the scene. Despite this, they all take a forward-thinking approach with their respective takes on the tracks and bring a new life to their classic sounds.

5 years ago Bro Safari & UFO! unleashed their groundbreaking Animal LP. It’s a monster project that fused a multitude of genres and wild sound design into a dark and impressive body of work. It helped show the world trap could be multidimensional and showcased just how innovative Bro Safari & UFO! truly were. But that was 5 years ago. Do the two producers still have what it takes to push boundaries in bass music? 5 years is an eternity in electronic music and much has changed. With expectations high for their comeback, the two veterans prove they are still at the forefront of music with Clockwork.

The 8 track offering isn’t so much an album as it is a sci-fi epic. From the moment you press play, you’re brought back to the same animalistic uneasiness you experienced with Animal. ‘N.U.M.B.’ begins as an eerie hunt and soon morphs into a full on feeding frenzy under a bright blood moon. ‘Inaccessible’ takes listeners “deeper into the jungle” for an even more ravenous offering. Trees are parted to give sight to an ancient civilization that’s possessed by the fire’s burning energy. It’s an uninhibited rave on ayahuasca and ‘Breaking The Curse’ is coming face to face with any demons and wrestling them to the death.

‘ET Finger’ presents a new chapter and direction. We’re transported from the depths of the jungle to the expanse of the universe. It’s a fast-paced progression through blackholes, space stations, solar storms and haunting spirits. ‘WAMF’ doubles down on the intensity for a maddening mélange of sounds that embody 90’s hip-hop and brutal space bass. The madness doesn’t last forever as the track mellows, allowing a drift into ‘Osangala’. Like landing on a ominous, yet stunningly beautiful planet, the track is serene and unsettling. There’s a foreign allure that pulls like gravity back on earth, but you can’t quite settle in.

As we near the end of the journey ‘Mortar’ presents a melancholy tapestry that’s less exciting then the previous chapters but also less chaotic. Capping off the adventure is the title track. ‘Clockwork’ is dripping with nostalgia. It feels like everything that is 80’s sci-fi, rolled into an audio experience. It’s neon lights, flying cars, rocket ships. It’s imagining the future in a way that doesn’t exists anymore. It possesses a youthful curiosity and wonderment, presenting a perfect palate cleanser for the dark and tumultuous journey you just endured. Strap yourself in and experience it all for yourself below.

You should already know from FUXWITHIT’s review of Bro Safari & UFO!’s ‘N.U.M.B.’ that these two are out for blood, getting elbow deep is dank bass, creeptastic effects, and all-around demonically deep electro sounds on their new album Clockwork Pt. 1.

This collection of tracks is not done justice by being simply described as dark- this is a new type of aphotic style that is devoid of any pleasantries, and is more about gut gurgling growls, serpentine slithers that overtake you by surprise, and exploring the way sound can unhinge your senses. Bro Safari and UFO! twist and morph sounds that on their own would give you goosebumps into sounds that dovetail into a flavorful experiment.

‘Inaccessible’ has some intense attention grabbing vocals, and some swamp-creepy trickles of breathe. The melody is picked up somewhere from the murk, and your ear follows it like a lantern through a bog of bass, and building effects swarm over you. The track is fastidiously original, confidently strutting its eerie swagger. Tension is created with high notes, and a quick rhythm, but the effects are not crowded. When the drop comes, plenty of funky drums and meaty wubs makes for an irresistible dance jam accentuated by tribal vocals, and electro chirps ending on a summery-sweet, ambient fade out.

The last track, ‘Break the Curse,’ is more of Bro Safari’s abrupt, in-your-face style. With breathy taunting voice samples, and a plucky melody line. The rhythm is mischievous and dives in and out of the swirling top notes, and looming background bass. Bird calls bring on the unsteady feeling of being lost in a foreign jungle, where the only thing you have to do to find your way out is face your greatest fear, and well, break the curse.

Check it out below, and be on the look out for a tour announcement for Bro Safari and UFO! to bring their new take on bass on the road. The full Clockwork project drops 09/21.

5 years ago, Bro Safari & UFO! teamed up to bring us Animal. The 10 track album pushed the boundaries of the trap and bass genres and helped set the tone for the future. Today, they pick up right where they left off with ‘N.U.M.B’. The release feels like a resurrection of Animal’s title track, embodying much of the track’s sound while still pushing boundaries some 5 years later.

‘N.U.M.B’ presents listeners with a dark and eerie backdrop. The moon is full, dark spells are being cast and primeval beasts roam with clenched teeth and fierce growls. Animals feast on flesh in the first drop as the darkness becomes overwhelming. The sound of flies circling a skeleton closes the scene and readies us for act two. Crickets creep in for an unsettling calm. The underlying tension envelopes into another wild scene, this time with a jungle infused air. Frogs creak and monkeys cry out as bass pulses from all directions. Things begin to settle as ‘N.U.M.B’ drifts into its finale but subconsciously you know this is just the beginning.

‘N.U.M.B’ is the first single off of Bro Safari & UFO!’s upcoming collaborative project Clockwork. The project will be released in multiple parts with Clockwork (Pt. 1) dropping 8/24, Clockwork (Pt. 2) out on 9/7, and the full project coming to us on 9/21. Considering the impressive sound of ‘N.U.M.B’ and their track record, we are in for something special.

ETC!ETC! ignites the bass with his #NOTMYTEMPO LP. Here are my favorites from this 9 track new release.

Leading the pack is ‘Fyre’. As the deep-dark vocals refrain ‘Ga-ga-ganja/Roll up the weed/ Fire” a fast-paced BPM classic to the Moombah style, you suddenly realize you’re ready to party. ETC!ETC! has created yet another, bass-heavy, track that makes you want to dance like a flame flickers next to a subwoofer. Even though this is a dance track, it still feels dark and spooky with break-downs, breathy sirens, and gun-cocking sound effects. Sparking off the speakers, this track was made to get you hyped.

The title track, ‘#NOTMYTEMPO’ which ETC!ETC! teamed up with Bro Safari is one of, if not the dankest track. With a quick-steady, reggeaton beat that is introduced by rising synths, and a vicious drop into the meat of the rhythm. ETC!ETC! and Safari created a spell-binder with its aggressive, swirling sirens and hardy build-ups. My only issue is that it is over way too soon for all the punch that is packed into it.

‘Dame Mas’ has yet another heart-racing tempo that is smashed with throbbing synths, and sexy vocals. You could bachata and head-bang to this fusion of Caribbean and traditional flavors. Thundering, plunky bass paired with the steady swish of a maraca sample makes for an irresistible combination you just have to shake your hips to.

Intermixed with this heavy dance tracks, are gems like ‘Pon El Radio’, which is an interesting blend of live-horns, and an airy bongo-drums reminding the listener where ETC!ETC! draws his inspiration from.

Check these out and more below. Moombahton is back!

Earlier today, a slew of our favorite artists including Brillz, Bro Safari, ETC!ETC!, Willy Joy, Lil Texas and more all began posting different iterations of the image above. The coordinated effort left fans wondering what it could mean. The “R-001” text in the top corner hinted towards the first installment of a compilation. For hardcore fans of Brillz, the symbol at the center may look familiar. That’s cause it’s actually the “T” from his newly stylized Twonk logo. It turns out the images are teasers for the upcoming Twonkilation, Vol. 1 EP.
