When asked about how the two linked up, CAPTSIS states “KOZ reached out to me a few months before I started MYOPIC SOUNDS and we were always stoked off each others work! After having him on our first MYOPIC tape he sent me a project for me to jump on it as a collab and that’s how ‘MONARCH’ kicked off.” He also adds that “this collab was the kind that took awhile to get done but we are both very stoked on the outcome! We were able to mesh our ideas throughout the entire track, but still have each of our own style for the drops! The first drop more of my style and direction in it while KOZ went in on the second drop!”

‘MONARCH’ is exactly as CAPTSIS describes: the conglomeration of two talented producers coming together to deliver an experimental banger. A brief yet heroic introduction catapults listeners into an eccentric trap-oriented drop, before a short bridge leads listeners into gritty, metallic insanity. The second half of the track only furthers this scintillating wonky theme, capping off the beast with as much intensity as the beginning.

While they came together late last year, today marks their full out launch with their debut mixtape The Awakening. The project features familiar names in CAPTSIS, IANY, MIDNGHT, Jordnmoody & ZCR, plus a ton of fresh faces. As for how it all came together, “All of the track selection came together organically which is awesome. We started as a small core group of artists who wanted to start something new and fresh. From there some artists  reached out to us and vice versa and we just invited them to this discord and built a small little community. That’s what I think separates this compilation from others is that all the people involved support each other one way or another,” CAPTSIS explains. The songs fit together nicely while all possessing their own unique facets. The Awakening is weird, bass-heavy and exciting at every turn.

What’s next on the horizon for MYOPIC SOUNDS? Captsis tell us, “A lot of dope stuff. Our main focus now is to create a new monthly event in LA that is a true representation of the underground bass music scene. Along with that we have more music ranging from singles and EPs that we are excited about.”We’ll certainly be keeping our eyes and ears out for more. For now, we’ll be enjoying The Awakening. The track was inspired by Captsis’ recent trip to his homeland, “‘LOSTBOI’ is based on having the feeling of familiarity but not being able to quite pinpoint what it is. I was born in the Philippines but moved out to the US at such a young age of 2 years old. So all I really have is vague memories. So it’s like feeling like I’m lost but knowing this is my home and where my roots are.”

‘LOSTBOI’ allows listeners to explore the contrasting energy contained in the country. The opening and breaks are stunning, warming and intoxicating. You can practically feel the warm clear water passing through your fingertips as you sail by pristine, lush islands. “Palawan felt like paradise straight up, so soothing and beautiful. It was so peaceful and something completely different from the LA life I have gotten used too. The intro to ‘LOSTBOI’ is heavily inspired by the vibe,” Captsis expands.

As the track builds the drops take us to an entirely different physical space and energy. The relaxing beauty is replaced with a hectic intensity. Pounding bass, animalistic samples, dizzying synths and some ghostly vocals bring us into Manilla. “The drop is something that I wanted to contrast this and is a representation of the craziness in Manilla haha. People being everywhere, the hectic sounds of all the cars traffic, to all the buildings and billboards,” explains Captsis. The ferocity of the drops not only embody the city but connect to the internal struggle Captsis explained in the opening.

‘LOSTBOI’ is a transportational track that perfectly balances between rich vibes and heavy-hitting sections for a sound that’s sure to leave you lost in it all. Stream below and grab the free download.
