A few months ago, The Funk Hunters, Defunk and Akylla released their stellar collaboration, ‘Warn Ya.’ A mid-tempo classic filled with spiritual vocals, futuristic sound design and more. Showcasing a brand new side to their projects. Evolving to a higher degree for themselves and amazing their audience.

And now, to give them even more excitement and emotion, they’ve put together a stunning new remix package for the single. Rounding up major heavy-hitters to help honor the original vision. Artists such as Cazztek, Champagne Drip and more have carefully woven their own path of greatness to showcase their take on the track. A fantastic way to join each other and share the spotlight. You’ll find yourself dancing your feet off to one remix, while headbanging to the max on another. The diversity within these musicians is unreal and will truly impress every ounce of your soul. No matter which one you experience, you’ll find something brand new and refreshing which will push the electronic music scene even further.

Totally blown away by how this remix EP came together. Cazztek & Jay Robinson delivering the massive house vibes, Champagne Drip with the insane bass remix, and both Cofresi and CAPYAC taking the tune into totally new directions too! Can’t wait to start playing these out at festivals this summer!- The Funk Hunters

The ‘Warn Ya’ remix package is a glistening sea filled to the brim with raw talent and life. Each piece represents the artists perfectly while stepping out of their comfort zones for a greater impact. Complimenting the original creators with high praise and respect. From a groovy house remix from CAPYAC, to a bass filled wonderland from Champagne Drip, there’s something for everyone within this world of pure imagination. Their inspiring and high quality reworks brings the original work to new territories and pushes for pure evolution within themselves. So make sure to go support them all by streaming The ‘Warn Ya’ remix package everywhere via Westwood Recordings!

When it comes to making some of the hardest slapping tracks in the bass music industry right now, Champagne Drip and G-Rex are assuredly no strangers to sitting near the top of the leaderboard. Consistently smashing all preconceived notions about their individual styles and experimental bass music as a whole, innovation and creativity front-load their freight trainlike workloads. Between G-Rex’s immaculately dark and stylistic Hallows EP, of which we had the great pleasure of premiering ‘All I Do‘ from, and Champagne Drip’s ‘Me and You‘ with Lucii and ‘After the Water‘ with Zeds Dead, it’s really no wonder that eventually these two titans of sound would pool their immense production knowledge together to create something truly spectacular. That piece in question? ‘Cold Case’ out now on Wakaan.

With an intro reminiscent of something in a monster movie right before the terrifying beast is unveiled, ‘Cold Case’ establishes dominance right out of the gates. Excitement peaks as the build brings unrelenting force like a shot of adrenaline straight to the dome, as the monstrosity nears ever closer. Once the fiend rears its ugly head though, it’s game over, as the combined technical prowess of these two masterful artists is unparalleled, with production in the drops so clean you could eat a four-course meal off it. The latter half is even more electrifying, as the fake drop that swiftly rises in tenacity sends listeners into a verifiable frenzy before they’re bombarded with even more audible delicacies. With such a smash-hit as their first collaboration, we can only hope we can hear more from these two in the near future. Check out ‘Cold Case’ for yourself below, and grab the free download here!

While bits and pieces of the former moniker shine through in his current works, there is a perceptible line of distinction between works past and present. Selected from the Balearic Bass EP released via SMOG Records in 2013, ‘Hypnotizing’ presents a unique mutuality between Poole’s past alias and his current sonic efforts, composing a thrilling melody and mesmerizing folds of bass, which looking back, subtly foreshadow the contemporary transition into Champagne Drip.

Taking a break from making bombastic bassy bangers, Champagne Drip and Lucii have come together for a piece that touches down on the feelsy side of the musical spectrum. A communal quest that we all share, but experience individually, is the broad search for someone or something that sets our souls ablaze, that keeps us excitedly coming back for more. For some, that home comes in the form of another person. Fresh off the news that Lucii and Rezz have recently become an item, it seems like perfect timing to put out a piece about love and connection with another soul. This collaborative effort comes in the form of ‘Me and You,’ out on Wakaan, a track about being lost in the current moment with another being, time becoming meaningless in that singularity.

The first elements you’ll notice in ‘You and Me’ are the immensely satisfying piano notes and Lucii’s goosebump-inducing vocals. Practically reverberating the air around you with emotional energy, this is a song that will attract lovers like magnets to each other. The bass lines are dripping with allure and serotonin-flooding reverberations, causing a lovey-dovey tenderness only found in the most familiar of creations. With an almost old-school dubstep feel, it makes one think of simpler times in every aspect. For anyone looking for a grade-A melodic banger, look no further! Check out ‘Me And You’ below, and you can grab the free download here!

Zeds Dead are back and bringing the heat for 2020. We may be on the brink of our earth dying and existential dread is at an all-time high, but producers Dylan Mamid and Zachary Rapp-Rovan are here to keep us head banging until the very end. Enlisting label mates Subtronics, Champagne Drip and Holly and industry heavyweights such as Jauz, Ganja White Night, and Slushii, Zeds Dead showcase why they’re the ultimate curators when it comes to getting down and dirty. However, it’s not all dubstep and games out here folks. We get a glimmer of that sweet drum and bass on ‘Sound of the Underground’ and a smattering of melodic bass on ‘Stars Tonight’ to keep people on their toes.

While all the songs on this collaboration are great in their own right, there are a few that stand out above the rest and demand multiple listens.

Bumpy Teeth

Those who have been in the electronic music scene for a while know Subtronics’ name and his impressive producing skills. With his uncanny ability to create catchy drops that have young teens going crazy on Tik Tok, he’s got the spotlight on him to see what he does next. In this collaborative banger ‘Bumpy Teeth,’ Subtronics and Zeds Dead get back to the good shit that we all know and love: fun ad libs and melodic switches that keep us hooked. Sometimes when it comes to collaborations, Subtronics style is only allowed to shine through every once and awhile, but the moment this song starts, you know it’s Subtronics unique flare. It’s trippy and zooms in and out, it has the uncanny ability to create a visual journey for the listeners just with the music. ‘Bumpy Teeth’ is heavy throughout and dripping with bass. The low ends and the high hats blend together perfectly and can truly only be appreciated blasting at full volume in your car or headphones. His collaboration solidifies his place on the Deadbeats roster as one of the greats. Put this song on at the end of a party and it’s about to be a bumpy ride.

Sound of the Underground

On first listen of the album, this song stuck out to me the most. I know there has been a recent appreciation for Drum and Bass in the electronic world (finally!) but to hear it on a Deadbeats album was pleasantly surprising. The track, which is aptly titled ‘Sound of the Underground,’ was the lead single for the album and was produced with none other than DnB legend, Urbandawn. The unique style of Urbandawn when it comes to Drum and Bass exemplifies his Brazilian roots and is known to switch up styles halfway through. For these very reasons, it’s no surprise that this song caught my attention.

‘Sound Of The Underground’ starts out gloomy and spooky before breaking into the classic DnB breakbeat that we’ve all come to love, but it’s when the song hits the halfway mark that it truly blooms. In ‘Sound of the Underground’ Urbandawn throws all genres to the wind and switches styles, allowing for Zeds Dead to fold in bass and interweaving a myriad of different sounds that blend together in the most perfectly disjointed way. ‘Sound of the Underground’ is an unadulterated showcase of the musicality that Zeds Dead and Urbandawn possess and one of my favorites.

Just Wanna

If you aren’t sure you like electronic music or if you are hesitant about trying big scary Dubstep, then this song is just for you. Loge21 are the kings at blending house with hip-hop breakdowns, inviting people in that are on the fence about house music (which, come on guys, it’s 2020, get with the program). They entice outsiders to a genre that they never even thought about it. I guarantee if you put on a house song, everyone will end up bopping their head at some point. With ‘Just Wanna,’ Loge21 and Zeds Dead create the perfect gateway song. It’s a little bit more on the bass side than Loge21 usual put out, but it still has that house base line that we know and love. It also helps that Polina’s vocals sit so effortlessly breathy on top of the production, giving you those 1990’s underground Chicago rave vibes. It’s simple, but fun and doesn’t command the listener to think too much. It’s here to make you groove on a Friday night or power walk to work on Monday morning, nursing a major hangover, and sometimes that’s all you can ask for from a song.

No strangers to cooking up copious amounts of heat in the beat kitchen, Neil Berry and Sam Pool, aka LUZCID and Champagne Drip, are true veterans of the bass community. Finding their niche among the rest of the immensely talented Wakaan roster, they’ve helped curate a place to expand upon their already massive individualistic styles while also allowing for collaborations with fellow geniuses of the field. Their latest collaboration ‘Double Vision’ is the namesake track for their nationwide co-headlining tour; a track so wild vivid hallucinations have been known to occur.

When dealing with collaborations, I find tracks immensely more rewarding when you can distinctly hear both artists included throughout the piece. ‘Double Vision’ is a masterful example of that, as from the very beginning you get this sense of back and forth between them, the opening being this beautiful airy “I’m floating in outer space” type vibe which is classic Luzcid, but then when it builds you get those quick wubs that are so characteristic of Champagne Drip. Each drop is a tremendous melding of their personas, with immaculate sound design and immensely satisfying kicks that you’ll feel in your chest on a large sound system. It’s easy to get lost in the presence of this track, as it leaves you in this almost trance-like state of unbeknownst appreciation for the brain massage you’re currently receiving.

If you judge a tour by the artists’ namesake track, then this one is easily one you shouldn’t miss. Make sure to catch Luzcid and Champagne Drip on their nationwide tour, and check out ‘Double Vision’ for yourself below!

One of the few artists to successfully navigate not one, but two codependent music careers, Sam Pool deserves nothing but recognition for his ability to transition from his roots producing Drum & Bass under the moniker SMPL into the shockingly experimental freeform guise of Champagne Drip.

With releases on the likes of Quality Goods Records, Wakaan, and Bassrush, the sheer dynamic nature of Pool’s production and the depth of his sound allows him to flow effortlessly between his signature vivacious synths and a more bass-clad style, marking him as a prime candidate to transcend the boundaries of genres altogether.

In his latest expedition, Starman, Pool conceives a vast underwater metropolis, which builds upon the bubbly nature of previous releases such as Of Course I Still Love You where he first divulges the early beginnings of his subaqueous elegance, but an experimental bass undertone gives the project a tangible step in a new direction.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/568510473″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

The journey begins with the rhythmic chanting of drums, which loom menacingly overtop a high-paced riser which breaks just slightly for an exquisitely timed vocal sample that unleashes an oncoming fleet of oscillating wobbles and reverberating patterns of dripping bass. As the first assault is narrowly dodged, the rhythmic drum sequence forewarns of a looming threat, building yet again into the second wave of wobbles ornately spackled with tight horns and incisive bass stabs.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/567875046″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

As a gentle humming and delicate percussion set the stage, a perilous fate seems to menace in the distance; needless to say, this will be no leisurely sonic voyage. An electrifying riser takes its grip over the track, building energy to a crescendo before letting loose a rampage of mesmerizing bass pulses which resonate and transform seamlessly amid juicy vocal samples. A laidback electro melody gives a playful touch, while walls of captivating bass immerse you in a state of resonance.

With well over a decade of experience under his belt, production expertise and a true veteran ear for sound design shine through in Champagne Drip’s latest Starman EP, allowing him to further demonstrate the dexterity and precision of his delectable freeform style. As on the eve of all of his releases, we highly anticipate the next opportunity to further explore the vast bass-riddled world that Sam Pool has crafted.

Los Angeles producer Sam Pool is no stranger to the deep, dark depths of the music scene. Formerly known as SPL, Pool articulated himself for nearly 10 years with drum & bass, dubstep and trap influenced sound before having a spur of inspiration in a divergent direction in the summer of 2014. The change of heart furnished an exciting new opportunity, thus conceptualizing the synth-heavy, tropical taste we now know and love as Champagne Drip.

Pool totes an outstanding arsenal of releases, including Poseidon released on Quality Goods Records in 2016 and stemming as far back as the fall of 2014 with his debut EP Radio Bikini, which saw remixes from respected names such as Big Wild, Mayhem, & Son of Kick. Champagne Drip’s latest EP on Wakaan titled Obelisk is a daring masterpiece, which I personally felt held true to Pool’s retro synth, while still pushing the project in the bass-ridden, swampy direction that Wakaan is most known for.

The first track from the EP ‘Nerf This’ begins with the gentle underwater synths, reminiscent of Pool’s 2016 standalone single ‘Open Your Eyes’, which gently develops into an 80’s melody with long drawn out chords. As the tuned out bass begins to creep into the track, the heavier side of the EP rears its face, as a playful vocal sample drops into a relentless sea of bass, which Pool accentuates with his classic wavy synth patterns and high pitched squeals.

The next tune, titled ‘Argent Energy’, wastes no time getting heavy, with a gripping drowned out bass pattern that washes over you like a tidal wave. A chanting robotic voice chants “Energy” ominously in the background as the energy of the song builds, the bass rising and falling transcendently. A wailing synth pattern highlights the offbeats, which seamless drop into a familiar jungle drum pattern, right before the full extent of the bass in the drop is unleashed.

‘The Portal’, which was featured as the Track of the Day on Insomniac Events, is an accurate depiction of Champagne Drip’s ability to craft a journey within a song, from start to finish. The tune begins with a soft, uplifting synth melody, which transitions into a rhythmic drum pattern before a raspy voice demands “Open the Portal” as the track drops into a wonky pattern of tight bass notes and sinuous, synth patterns. The track as a whole has an organized chaos feel, which is a perfect balance of expert sound design and pushing experimental boundaries.

The final song from the project, ‘Axis Mundi’ is a perfect nightcap to the EP. Hopeful synths and a gentle drumming rhythm are quickly enveloped by an obsessive reverberating pattern, which is contrasted with groaning static bass notes, which adds just the right amount of spice to the tune. The track pauses briefly as Pool introduces a gorgeous melody which reminded me of the gentle lull of a tide on a beach before the oscillating synths return and a humming bass rhythm slowly brings the EP to a close.

Obelisk is an exquisitely intricate project that truly gives the listener a brilliant depiction of the style of Champagne Drip. Holding true to his signature sound, the EP pushes the boundaries of dubstep, with undertones of jungle drums and just the perfect touch of freeform bass to keep you on your toes. We can’t wait to see what Sam has in store for us in the coming year :)
