PREMIERE: ELK x Chris Dogzout Tease Upcoming EP With Incredible Single ‘Yaksha’

France is quickly becoming one of the top breeding grounds for future beats. The wealth of artists they’re produced within the scene is immense, but two proceed to stand out among the rest: ELK & Chris Dogzout. We first met the pair when they kicked off Quality Goods Records‘ Quality Vibes series with the immaculate ‘Omelet.’ More recently they connected with the trap king UZ and rising rapper SoloSam for ‘Pressure,’ a laidback rap cut that’s primed for the summer. With their collaborative Lodestone EP set to drop this Friday, we have the pleasure of premiering the standout single ‘Yaksha.’

The new track masterfully illustrates what makes ELK & Chris Dogzout so special. Ghostly vocals drift over chunky drums and carefully curated samples in the intro. The melody is addictive and possessing, bringing listeners to a higher plane. You can practically feel your body begin floating as the bass rattles your chest and you nod your head. Strong hip-hop influences dance with trap and more adventurous electronic energies. It’s effortlessly breezy while still packing some major bump. With each passing bar ‘Yaksha’ explores new directions, flowing like a river and giving you new life.

The track ‘Yaksha’ was created to represent those protective mystical forces of nature, hence the sampling of traditional Indian voices and the evolution of instruments, to take the listener on a journey, through a dynamic and aerial track that tells our version of the story of these spirits.”

OUTSIDERS PARIS continues to be a bright light in the underground scene. The label was founded by FUXWITHIT favourite Sebjin and his manager Maryam, and together they are bringing fans the future. We had the pleasure of premiering their inaugural STANDOUT compilation last year, so it’s only right we are back to premiere this year’s follow-up. The project is curated around the pillars of originality, musical identity and authenticity. Expanding a myriad of sounds and vibes, the 9 track effort has something for everyone, from laidback grooves to aggressive bangers, and breathtaking bops.

Kicking things off in an exceptional way, ELK & Chris Dogzout showcase their chemistry with ‘WOAH!’ Living up to its name, this one is assured to amaze. The melodies are evocative and immersive while the drops pack a masterfully minimal punch. Looking for some wild bangers? Audeon and cm. have you covered with ‘TURN UP’ and ‘Aerosol.’ Keeth has been a SoundCloud favourite and ‘Memories’ is a reminder as to why. France continues to be a beacon shining bright, bringing us a steady stream of incredible producers. Their latest export to catch our ear is Chris Dogzout. He made his mark by kicking off Quality Goods Records’ Quality Vibes series alongside ELK with ‘Omelet‘ earlier this year. Since then he’s proceeded to impress with stellar releases like ‘Nightfall’ and ‘Sachita’. Finding the perfect balance between bounce, knock, emotion and groove, his music is infectious and undeniable dope. Chris Dogzout’s signature is on full display in his brand new guest mix! He blesses us with a number of unreleased tracks plus music from Foolie $urfin, Losco x LYNY, tapecut, UZ and more. We also caught up for a quick interview to help you get familiar with this promising new talent. Check both below.

What should fans expect from the mix? If it were a film what would the tagline be?

They will find unreleased tracks and my favorite tracks of the moment.

Film : « Whiplash » My slogan : Never stop working.

I read that you grew up in a musical family. What’s your favorite music related memory from when you were growing up?

I was in Guadeloupe with my father and my bassist cousin who performed for a concert. I was 12 years old, when I returned to France I wanted to become a bassist.

How has your relationship with music evolved as you’ve matured?

I listen to a lot of jazz in college, I was part of several group projects (metal, reggae, funk fusion). In high school I started to listen to more rap, R&B, bass music, electro, I was really closed in this delirium, always practicing jazz. Today I really listen to a lot of different styles and learn to appreciate new flavors like food.

Are you born and raised in France? Do you ever see yourself living anywhere else?

Yes, I grew up in Choisy-le-Roi in the Parisian suburbs. I would like to go to Canada. My manager is there and it makes me want to change my place of life.

What drew you to the future beats sound? What do you enjoy most about creating within it?

I was drawn to artists like TroyBoi, Sam Gellaitry, Mr. Carmack, UZ, TNGHT.

I have the freedom that we can have as a producer, there is no real limit, we can fully exploit the technique.

France seems to be stacked with incredible future beat talent. What’s the connection between the country and the sound?

There is indeed a lot of future beats talent in France! For me, the connection is international, it’s a very strong movement that is taking hold in the world!

What’s the recipe to a Chris Dogzout track?

Chords and beautiful melodies, simple and futuristic, no quantize to have a very natural side, big bass in harmony with the rest of the sound and some captivating vocals.

You’ve released on a number of labels from Quality Goods Records to Below The Surface in addition to running your own label. What makes you want to work with another label vs. releasing on your own?

Working with labels that have a real community is very important to me for the development of my career, today we are all looking to be in the press and get into playlists and a solid label can bring that kind of need.

2020 has been a tough year for everyone. Have you been able to make any positive changes during this year?

I was lucky enough to work for a very good sync company in Paris.

I got back into sport, I’m currently working on Spotify playlists and a new compilation with my label.

What brings you joy outside of music?

My family, my friends, my life…

ELK & Chris Dogzout Debut Quality Vibes With ‘Omelet’

Quality Goods Records have always had their ear to the ground, and show no sign of stopping any time soon. Late last year, the imprint introduced the Quality Treats segment to showcase hot singles from some of the most promising artists in the game right now, with these treats often falling perfectly in line with the definition of a banger. Now, Quality Goods Records looks to continue its dominance within the underground scene, this time exploring a new direction with their newest series, Quality Vibes. The series will push a more melodic, laidback sound that focuses more on storytelling and emotions.

On the change on pace, QGR head UZ states, “I love bangers and drops at shows but when at home I’m more into chill vibes and melodies. I have been receiving a lot of cool music and I wanted to give those artists a platform, that’s why we started the Quality Vibes series.”

Kicking off the series in perfect fashion are French producers ELK and Chris Dogzout with ‘Omelet,’ a vibe-filled piece that is aptly suited for lounging with friends. The instrumentals are minimal and grow very gradually as new layers are added with each bar, creating a soothing and calming aura throughout. Despite this sense of relaxation, ‘Omelet’ still hits with punchy percussion and a pristine attention to detail, providing the perfect balance against the mesmerizing musicality and stirring strings.
