Our man Hydraulix is back again this week for our next guest mix installment! After dropping his NERVES EP on Wakaan earlier this year, the versatile Australian producer has been riding a wave of successful self-releases, including our previously-featured ‘duCk huNT‘ and the speaker-wrecking banger ‘HAWT‘ with Oski. Most recently, his track ‘I Spit Da Fire‘ was released on We Are Deadbeats Vol. 6.

Given his output since the year began, I’m not sure when the man sleeps, but whatever beauty sleep he manages is clearly paying off. We can’t wait to hear what the rest of year brings from this wicked talented producer, so until then, let’s get into the guest mix and hear what he has to say!

First off, it’s good to have you in the spotlight here at FUXWITHIT again! How has your year been going thus far?

Thanks for having me back. Always love catching up with you guys. So far so good. I’ve been doing a lot of self-releases which I’ve been loving very freeing the whole process.

What should our listeners expect to hear in this guest mix?

Lots of unreleased. I’ve got it stacked with unreleased from myself and a bunch of friends. And defs expect to hear a lot of deeper type tunes. I feel like the mix is a good indication of the direction I’m trying to head moving forward.

I’d say you’re one of many artists we touch on here who really can’t be pigeon-holed into a single genre given the variety of your discography. That said, who are your biggest musical influences?

I’m really so all over the place with where I get my inspiration from. Few people who always get me excited and eager to hear new music are Flume, Labrinth, Skrillex, TroyBoi, and Billie Eilish funnily enough.

Your most recent single with Oski, ‘HAWT,’ seems to have been a big hit now that it’s been played out by the likes of Four Tet, Excision, Zeds Dead, Liquid Stranger, etc. How does it feel to have such a stellar response to your track?

Thanks so much for the kind words. We are both stoked with the response to ‘HAWT.’ It’s obviously super rewarding to have people you look up to appreciate your music. I fully self-released ‘HAWT’ and to get arguably a bigger response than most tunes is super fulfilling.

Is it safe to say a full Hydroski EP is indeed happening?

It’s happening. We’ve got all the tracks there it’s just getting it all finished up. We’ve both been pretty busy recently, I just moved state and Oski has been working his ass off and hasn’t really had time to sit down. But it’s all there and well underway. The first track in the mix is actually one of the new tunes.

At the moment I’m just trying to write the best music I can and make it all cohesive together. I feel like I’m finally setting up and bringing people into the Hydraulix world and I’m super excited about what that will bring.

What’s next for you as a producer? Any big dreams you can share with us?

Man honestly at the moment I’m just trying to write the best music I can and make it all cohesive together. I feel like I’m finally setting up and bringing people into the Hydraulix world and I’m super excited about what that will bring.

If you had the opportunity to perform anywhere in the world for one night, where would it be?

I’ve got so many bucket list venues I’d love to play. Red Rocks is one for sure. But some other spots include Brooklyn Mirage, Palladium, and would die if I ever played EDC Vegas.

Anything particular remaining in 2024 that you’re super excited for?

I’ve actually just been wrapping a track with Tempa T that I’m super excited for and have a whole bunch of collabs with people I really I look up to. I don’t know if it’ll all come out in 2024 but some of the new music is gonna do some damage!

When you’re not making music, where does your free time go?

I’m such a homebody. I really don’t do much that exciting. I spend a lot of my free time watching NRL (Rugby league) and playing fantasy NRL with friends and usually taking my dog for walks and to the beach. I also love sewing and making clothes. I haven’t been doing that enough recently but now that I’m set up in my new spot I’m definitely gonna get back into it.

I think the biggest thing is consistency and perseverance. Sometimes it feels like your music falls on deaf ears but it’s important to just keep going. You never know what will hit and what won’t. But don’t get discouraged when stuff doesn’t.

Do you have any words of encouragement for aspiring producers out there?

I’m a big supporter of up-and-comers. It feels like some of the new people coming through are crazy talented. I think the biggest thing is consistency and perseverance. Sometimes it feels like your music falls on deaf ears but it’s important to just keep going. You never know what will hit and what won’t. But don’t get discouraged when stuff doesn’t. Also… Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s a slippery slope.

Bonus question: How does Australia put out so much good music? Seriously.

Hahaha, I wish I had the answer for this. We really do pump them out over here. I’m just grateful to be part of the community here in Aus. I find it’s a very supportive and nurturing group of producers from Aus.

Few have risen to stardom as quickly as Hamdi over the last few months. Despite being an underground force for almost a decade, it was only after the release of the legendary ‘Skanka’ that the UK-based artist started making waves across the globe. Since earning the second highest spot in our Top 50 Songs of 2022, Hamdi has toured North America over the first half of this calendar year, and now looks forward to releases with the likes of Skrillex and Zeds Dead.

The main appeal to Hamdi’s sound is his ability to fuse dubstep, grime and garage. Consistently weaving his way between these genres and often interlacing them, the producer has honed in on a sound that appeals to a wide audience. Looking to continue his momentum in anticipation of the aforementioned collaborations, Hamdi makes his Deadbeats debut with the highly-anticipated ‘Counting.’ Featuring an infectious sample from the legendary Princess Superstar, ‘Counting’ is everything fans have come to love from Hamdi. Utilizing the vocals to open the track before gradually layering bass and percussion, the producer wastes no time getting into the meat of things as his quintessential vibrations jump to the foreground. Simple in its ideas yet executed to a tee, ‘Counting’ is sure to tear up clubs and festivals for the entire summer. Don’t miss it below.

Despite making a name for himself outside of the drum and bass world, Kumarion has quickly evolved into a drum and bass heavy-hitter while continuing to make waves across various realms of the electronic music scene. In parallel, Smoakland have championed a distinct sound that harnesses the energy of old school dubstep, while simultaneously harvesting a drum and bass facet with their Liquid Smoak side project.

Following a joint tour that kicked off in late March, Kumarion and Smoakland now join forces on the three-track High Rollers EP, released via the coveted Deadbeats. A powerful, adrenaline-fueled release that’s guaranteed to captivate dance music fans, High Rollers features three sonically different tracks that encompass a range of styles and that come together nicely into one cohesive project. ‘Worth All The Wait’ featuring jELACEE is a smooth liquid jam that uses soothing vocals to complement the light-hearted nature of the track. Kumarion and Smoakland venture into jungle territory with the project’s titled track, ‘High Rollers,’ peppering the project with more energy than its opener and further showcasing their technical skills. Finally, ‘Fluxuations’ lends a halftime hand to the lively project, as the artists slow down the tempo but not the intensity.

Chee needs no introduction here on FUXWITHIT. Years of supporting the artist have allowed us to watch him grow from an underground force into a household favourite, as he never ceases to innovate with a unique sound that only he can call his own. Even when he strays from his quintessential bass swagger as he did in his remix for ‘Temper‘ and ‘Motorola,’ Chee is able to create moody soundscapes unlike any other.

Following the release of ‘Spangled,’ ‘Act Like You Know’ and ‘Rusty Nickels,’ Chee returns to Deadbeats today to unveil his third full project on the imprint, namely the Polarities EP. Comprised of two new cuts, the Polarities EP continues to showcase the artist’s undeniable ability to break down barriers of expectations in bass music. ‘The Wisp Song’ opens the collection of tunes with an ominously futuristic introduction that spans well over a minute, changing directions midway through before a minimal bass drop riddled with hypnotizing frequencies hits hard. The three aforementioned tracks follow, where Chee showcases a mix of his mastery of halftime, future garage, dubstep and more. Finally, ‘Hold It’ closes the Polarities EP with a grit only Chee can concoct as he flawlessly adds his bass flair to a gnarly hip-hip-influenced beat.

It’s hard to pick a favourite from the project as each song offers a distinct listening experience. Dive into Chee’s Polarities EP below.

Tsuruda needs no introduction. As an expert beat-maker who refuses to conform to the boundaries of a genre, the LA-based artist has established himself in the bass scene through consistent material that never compromises on quality. While the last few months have been relatively quiet for the talented artist (albeit compensated by a mind-melting remix for Noisia), he now returns…

Tsuruda needs no introduction. As an expert beat-maker who refuses to conform to the boundaries of a genre, the LA-based artist has established himself in the bass scene through consistent material that never compromises on quality.

While the last few months have been relatively quiet for the talented artist (albeit compensated by a mind-melting remix for Noisia), he now returns to Deadbeats with an epic four-track project titled the Deathwish EP. Coming as no surprise, each track offers a unique auditory experience, as the producer taps various influences to concoct an extremely well-rounded body of work.

In ‘Moxy,’ Tsuruda brings a groovy house vibe highlighted by a punchy bass and hypnotizing rhythm that grows into an ethereal, uplifting track. In ‘Deathwish,’ the artist goes straight for the jugular with a riddim-leaning cut that carries an oddly satisfying swagger with it. The previously-released single ‘Lazer’ follows, where Tsuruda gives house a futuristic soundscape donned with lasers and catchy vocals. ‘Pillz’ closes the project with bars from the man himself layered atop a wonky bass beat. Altogether, the Deathwish EP captures all of Tsuruda’s strengths and packs them into an enjoyable experience.

In the words of the artist, “this a collection of four songs and it’s just me… being me, no filter. Wanted to give y’all some variety and express myself as an artist in full form.” Don’t miss it below.

Manchester-based duo Virus Syndicate have been fusing rap and bass music for well over a decade. Their gritty vocals have become a signature in the scene making waves with collaborations with Barely Alive, Eliminate, Hairitage, and so many more. Closing out 2022 with a bang, the duo are set to release their new EP Deadsick this Friday via Deadbeats. Ahead of the full release, we have the distinct pleasure of giving fans a sample of what’s to come with the massive ‘Alphabet Riddim’ alongside L*o*J.

Proving to be the perfect team, Virus Syndicate and L*o*J sound right at home together. The backing is menacing, bass-heavy, and filthy. Chest-pounding wubs pulse throughout the track as JSD and Nika D drops fittingly gritty bars. Staying true to the title, the lyrics retain the alphabet theme as they bounce from bar to bar flipping letters with stellar wordplay. Both verses kill, with the emcees going Z-A and back A-through-Z respectively. Just peep a quick sample of the potency, “I move with the A-Team, don’t touch B, but we all smoke weed, that’s drug class C, man are causing a ruckus, no I don’t creep, no D-Block Europe, selling them E’s, till they all got effed, straight up G.” Add in the in-your-face and catchy hook, and this one’s a smash.

Alphabet bars have been a strong feature since the very beginning of British MC culture. The alphabet has always been a way for MC’s to show off their lyrical ability and flow. From Skibba and Shabba to P Money and more we’ve grown up listening to our favourite MC’s give their take on the alphabet and we really wanted to pay homage to British MC culture and where it all began for us. So, what better way to start than turning it backwards? Haha! We had a lot of fun with this one just capturing a vibe and enjoying playing with the words. And of course, L*o*J came with an absolute banger which set the pace and vibe. – Virus Syndicate

Rap and bass music just sound right together, ‘Alphabet Riddim’ is yet another powerful reminder. Stream the track below and be sure to presave the Deadsick EP.

It’s a mystery why Oski isn’t headlining festivals or doing shows around the world. The talented Sydney-based artist has been a recurring force in the bass scene for almost a decade now, and has repeatedly evolved his sound into exciting, untapped territories. In a scene that is often saturated with a lot of the same, Oski consistently pushes the boundaries of a wide variety of genres, and is at the forefront of innovation time and time again. This year alone, the Australian artist has released the action-packed DIABOLICAL EP on Deadbeats, the genre-defying Kid Colossus EP on Quality Goods Records, and a mind-melting collaboration with Luca Lush. Quality simply flows through Oski’s veins.

Continuing upon this theme, Oski now returns to Deadbeats with the two-track Enigma EP, further showcasing his ability to create dancefloor-ready heaters. The title track of the project sees the producer unleash his inner dubstep guru, pairing some of his quintessential bass sounds with a riddim-leaning swagger that carries the piece forward.

While versatility is Oski’s strong suit, it’s surprising that the artist had never release a house track prior to this project. ‘Gainful Employment’ puts an end to that, though, and boy did he ever deliver. With a bass house groove riddled with snappy percussion and crisp sound design in the first half, and a cheeky halftime switch-up in the second half, Oski demonstrates he can compete with the best in yet another genre.

Both tracks from Enigma are sure to send crowds into a frenzy for their own respective reasons. Don’t miss the project below.

Black Carl! and Saka‘s monumental rise in the bass scene over the last year has been incredible to follow. From SoundCloud artists to festival and touring circuit mainstays, the pair of artists have cemented themselves as serious players in the game, racking up one accolade after the other. As their 30+ date, US-wide Rush Hour tour comes to a close in the next month, Black Carl! and Saka can now cross another item off their bucket list with the release of the Rush Hour EP on Deadbeats. Spanning four musically diverse tracks, the collection demonstrates why the producers continue to find success.

The chemistry between the artists throughout Rush Hour is undeniable. Their friendship exudes into the seamlessness of each track as Black Carl! and Saka explore a few different styles across the project. The opener, ‘Heaven On Earth,’ which features angelic vocals from The Lie Within Callie, is a groovy, house-leaning bop showcasing a new facet to both producers. ‘Rush Hour’ follows with the artists taking a much more familiar approach as they deliver a grungy halftime brute that boasts just the right amount of aggression without being overbearing. The biggest surprise in Rush Hour comes in the form of ‘Brutal’ – an unexpected yet mesmerizing collaboration with Protial. Perhaps it isn’t that unexpected, as the mysterious artist joined Black Carl! and Saka for bits of their Rush Hour tour. Nonetheless, the joining of forces of the three artists is exactly what one would expect, and more. From the quintessential Protial introduction to the flawless combination of sounds from those involed, ‘Brutal’ stands out as a personal favourite from the project. Finally, ‘Red Dragon’ closes out the ensemble of tracks with a more laidback appeal without escaping the bass nature of the project.

Speaking of the journey, Black Carl! said, “When Eric [Saka] and I first met, we joked that we should make a song called ‘Rush Hour.’ Three years later we got to play the biggest tour of our careers, we’re putting out the Rush Hour EP on Deadbeats, and Zeds Dead played our title track at Red Rocks. It’s hard to believe, but we’re so thankful for the support of our fans, friends, and family who got us to this point.” Don’t miss the Rush Hour EP below.

Over the last few years, Chee has risen among the elite in bass music due to his ceaseless innovation through halftime, dubstep, and beyond. His last two projects released via Deadbeats, namely Paralysis Analysis and Quarter Inch, unveiled a knack for crafting menacing, foundation-shattering sounds, perfectly tailored to a North American audience that thrives on exactly that. The last year has seen the artist tour across the continent, and while his musical output has been at a relative low, it has surely been time taken to refine his craft. Now, we get to hear the product of this evolution with a new track titled ‘Spangled,’ again released via Deadbeats.

This week, we saw many tweets from people in the industry about how ‘Spangled’ is a new Chee favourite. It takes only one listen to be in general agreement with this. ‘Spangled’ is the amalgamation of quintessential Chee and tireless ingenuity. In a single track, you get hints of the Read Once Then Destroy EP, moody undertones of bass, mechanical attention to detail and so much more. The first half of the song is eerily sinister, with the artist slowly building towards a drop that isn’t overly aggressive, but that engulfs listeners into a bass hypnosis. We’re intentionally very selective about comparing artists, but the Protial-sounding addition after the 1:20 mark is an incredible switch that adds flair and energy to the piece.

Taking his time to switch the tone of the track, Chee uses an extended bridge to lure you into the second half of ‘Spangled,’ where his creativeness only continues to shine. Employing some of the garage influence found in his earlier works, Chee concocts a somber section sure to induce goosebumps down to your core. Meticulously put together, ‘Spangled’ is Chee at his finest. Don’t miss it below.

For capshun this is the space that he owns. Ever honing his razor sharps skillset, the talented producer is making his mark on Deadbeats with the stunning new single ‘Lost.’ The track is part of the label’s upcoming We Are Deadbeats Vol. 5 compilation which drops this Friday. Ahead of the full compilation release, we have the distinct pleasure of premiering ‘Lost.’

‘Lost’ begins moody and uncertain as stuttered vocal chops flutter over rich soundscapes. As the vocal expands so does the emotion. The word ‘Lost’ is repeated, conjuring images of a search through a vast expanse. The first chorus packs a powerful punch elevating the intensity without losing the soul. The break doubles down on the soul before things take a darker turn as the track is bent and drifts into more menacing territory. The final drop is nothing short of beastly with gritty bass and hard kick drums punctuating the song’s disposition. The track is marred by darkness while underscored by a slight sense of melodic optimism. ‘Lost’ is a thrilling trek into the unknown that you won’t want to escape.

I wrote ‘Lost’ when as I was coming out of a heavy writers block. I literally felt Lost so I wanted to write something that gave that feeling of finding your way. But also just make a banger. I hope this song helps anyone who feels lost.
