When it comes to artists vigorously pushing the envelope in all facets of forward-thinking sound design, you’d be hard-pressed to find a brighter shining example than Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Digital Ethos. Bringing devastating amounts of force behind his pieces, yet making them a joy on the ears simultaneously, he’s harnessed a completely compelling combination. With miraculous releases like ‘E352‘, ‘Superhuman‘, and ‘Lurid‘, he’s showcased unparalleled levels of originality and ingenuity time and time again. Now, he’s back with a piece inspired by the first-person shooter game Overwatch in the form of the miraculously grimy ‘Junkrat’.

Sporting a delicious amount of bounce while coupling it with a full-bodied, punishing energy, ‘Junkrat’ leaves you feeling as if it’s entirely too O.P. for casuals. Coursing with chaotic electricity that keeps the head nodding like a well-tuned metronome, the bops seemingly never end when this tune is around. In a time where it can be easy to feel sluggish and lazy, it’s pieces like this that really light up rooms due to their ability to lift up listeners (both literally and figuratively) and get them grooving to their heart’s content. A topsy-turvy thrill ride of sensational proportions, ‘Junkrat’ will go down as another successful, impressive release from an already top-tier calibre artist. DIGITAL ETHOS Makes a Notable Bassrush Ingress with ‘E352’

Succeeding the self-release of ‘PULSAR’, Charlie Quigley, better known by his production alias DIGITAL ETHOS, makes a noteworthy entrance to Bassrush Records with the debut of ‘E352.’ Yet another highly anticipated ID to hit the release calendar from Quigley’s Sounds Of The Ethosphere Vol. 1, ‘E352’ is a slow-burning audible masterpiece weighted equally for enthusiasts of left-field bass and dubstep. An eerily industrial opening blends seamlessly with a distinctive snare pattern as the track draws to a precipice before an unexpected shift in energy reveals the meaty bass marrow of the tune.

‘PULSAR’ by DIGITAL ETHOS is a Tangible Sonic Narrative

Released in the vigil of Halloween this past year, the Modus EP from DIGITAL ETHOS provides a gripping preamble to the ongoing granular narrative captained by Philadelphia-based Charlie Quigley. Picking up where the three-track project left off, the first segment of The Sounds of The Ethosphere released on the cusp of the new year foreshadowed Quigley’s prolonged audible conquest, providing listener’s with a brief glance into the vision and cerebrum of DIGITAL ETHOS as well as the first glimpse at some forthcoming content.

One of many lethal IDs set to the calendar for 2020, ‘PULSAR’ is a sonic testament to Quigley’s predominance in production and sound design tactility. Dark embryonic energy is fixated neatly within an engrossing digital preface as the fibers of the tune begin to unwind. Heightened by the intensity of the kick drum, an inescapable sense of anticipation begins to permeate the foreground before the track trundles seamlessly into a villainous granular melody protracted over a tremendous labyrinth of bass.

A name synonymous with defying audible boundaries, Charlie Quigley invariably dominates the threshold of bass music, possessing a creative dexterity that allows him to work with an unrivaled precision in his solo efforts under the moniker DIGITAL ETHOS. Revisiting the first and solitary remix available publicly from the talented Philadelphia-based producer, ‘Bam Bam’ is an ode to reggae-roots in which Quigley melds lulling vocals from Sister Nancy with teeming plunges of bass in a serendipitous calamity.

Closing out a year distinguished by a handful of standalone self-releases, Philadelphia-based Charlie Quigley remains steadfast in his ability to devise captivating soundscapes under the alias DIGITAL ETHOS. Utilizing rotund, at times overwhelming effluxes of bass to create an unrivaled tactility in each track.

‘TRAUMA’ depicts an arena of sonic contrast in which Quigley works best, opening with an analog-infused melody to create an immediate sense of allure and fixation, before building into a merciless drop of hard cuts and gritty upsurges of bass.

Unleashed from captivity on Halloween of 2015, ‘Lurid’ depicts the earliest spice and flare of South Jersey’s Charlie Quigley in the days when the forward-thinking, boundary-shattering DIGITAL ETHOS project was just beginning to take shape.

Still one of my favorite ETHOS tracks to-date, ‘Lurid’ utilizes a mesmerizing introduction equipped with tight-wound percussion and firm bass notes to build a sense of urgency as a precarious vocal sample haunts the backdrop. The vocals echo into a momentary hiatus of static noise, which builds indignantly into a tremendous surge of dark, sinewy bass which seethes and smolders maniacally as one seamless flood of sonic chaos.
