Mr. Carmack is back and he’s bringing the vibes. Just over a month after releasing his heavy-hitting CHAOS EP, the veteran beatmaker blesses fans with the four-track HOMETOWN HEROES EP. ‘GOD (MUSIC)’ sets the bar high from the outset. The Dilip-assisted heater is the perfect blend of cinematic, epic, and banging. The first half balances gritty trap vibes, punchy bass, and angelic vocals, while the latter portion is a breezy sunfilled groove. Connecting with AbJo & antonioiswho comes FORTALEZA a laidback baile bop that’s anchored by the cool keys and upbeat percussion. The title track serves as a rap anthem with Jordan Dennis sliding into the spotlight and stealing the show with smooth and swag-packed bars. The backing is summery and dancey providing the perfect canvas for the emcee. Closing things out comes ‘PARANA’ a trippy off-kilter bop that’ll put you in a trance and have you moving. The elements are dark and heavy while somehow remaining inviting and approachable.

HOMETOWN HEROES is yet another reminder as to why Mr. Carmack is one of the best out. Listen below.

Reminding fans of their brilliance comes ‘i have an idea?<“‘. A work of future beat mastery, the track takes listeners on an epic sonic voyage. Opening gentle and inviting, the song builds as the bass and drums begin to bring the bump. It knocks without being aggressive, still pensive and reflective. The melody pulls the spotlight before it swerves tactfully into grittier territory. If the first half is cruising among the clouds, the back half is drifting at top speed through a futuristic city as night turns to morning. The enchanted energy remains but the intensity is amped as things get trapped out. Just when you think you have ‘i have an idea?<“‘ figured out, it shapeshifts again, transitioning into a cinematic ride out into the sunset backed by a weeping guitar. late year’s latest is one hell of an idea and the execution is exceptional.

The track serves as the first single off their upcoming album 002 which is out next Friday (4/29).

Nobody does curation better than Lucid Monday. Every single time a new compilation drops, fans can expect everything from big names to up-and-coming talents, and hard-hitting beats to groovy bops. Recently, the masterminds behind the compilations have compromised more frequent releases for stacked collections spanning well over ten tracks, and their latest is the perfect embodiment of that statement. Coming over nine months since LM025, LM026 lives up to the hype and to the anticipation, spanning 22 tracks and featuring sounds from all the Lucid Monday favourites.

While it would take a novel to do every track justice, we have hand-selected a few favourites from the bunch to highlight today. And before we get into it, we highly implore you to dive into the compilation as a whole to form your own opinion, pick your own favourites, and appreciate the full breadth of talent on display in LM026.

The first standout comes from the ever-talented Chromonicci in ‘Teleporters.’ Doing what he has done so many times in the past, the producer fuses trap and bounce like no other in his latest tune, luring listeners in with a minimal approach that screams less is more. Not too complex but meticulously concocted, ‘Teleporters’ demonstrates Chromonicci’s undeniable talent in manipulating sounds.

The next standout comes from Losco and ONHELL, who teeter on the side of dubstep with their brute titled ‘Carnal.’ The track is ominous and sinister, borrowing elements from trap but carrying a halftime swagger with it that makes it so much darker and heavier. It’s unruly and unusual for a Lucid Monday contribution, but slaps way too hard to omit from the standouts.

Finally, the elusive zotti makes his return in a collaboration with FUXWITHIT favourites L*o*J in a stomping heater named ‘Pullup’ that meshes their styles to a tee. zotti’s vibrant sound makes itself heard throughout, while L*o*J contribute an arm-swinging vibe that makes ‘Pullup’ the type of tune that will make you flip your desk. Simply put, it boasts a confidence and swank that should be illegal.

There are so many more highlights in the compilation which in turn make LM026 a highlight of its own. Dilip, ini, olswel, Dabow, sober rob… the list goes on. Don’t miss it below.

Packing 8 songs into 11 minutes it’s a short but sweet project that’s assured to have you hitting repeat. The project drifts between DILIP’s many styles. ‘jade’ and ‘slow motion’ bookend the release with a chilled-out vibe. Building upon that energy tracks like ‘dreaming’ and ‘reflect are effortlessly smooth with a breezy sun-filled flair. If you’re looking for a bit more intensity don’t worry ‘haila,’ ‘mercy,’ and ‘awesome’ have you covered. From exotic trap to drill-inspired bass and some wild west coast future bounce, all 3 are assured to hit just right. Oh and we can’t forget the elegant bop that is ‘the way.’ From front to back, this new DILIP tape is flawless.

Monday’s have a lot going against them. The weekend is over, the return to reality is here and the next weekend is as far away as it can be. Most people hate Monday’s but one platform has been tirelessly working to change the perception from dreaded to anticipated. Every so often Lucid Monday appears on the scene with a compilation so stacked it’ll make you ready to skip over the weekend just to get your hands on it. LM025 proceeds to live up to the hype and high bar set by their previous releases. With 20 tracks from Chromonicci, Dilip & Otxhello, olswel, Dabow x L*o*J x LYNY, Louis Futon, Foolie $urfin, aedfx., Evil Needle, enuar & kas, and so many more, this is an absolute must-listen. The vibes are immaculate and the slaps are in abundance. From front to back it’s a showcase of the next wave of exceptional talent.

Seeing Dabow, L*o*J, & LYNY on a track is enough to get any trap heads heart-pumping. ‘OG’ does not disappoint illustrating why they are 3 of the best out. The vocal is hypnotic and the track takes you into another dimension. From classic trap to mind-bending sound design, brutish bounce, and even a hazy, dripped out finale, it never stagnates and just keeps getting better.

Chill bangers seem like an oxymoron until you experience them for yourself, and then they’re all you want to hear. Evil Needle’s ‘Lift Off’ presents the tranquility of chilling on a tropical beach with a banging drop to take you to the beach club before allowing you to fully unwind and enjoy the breeze. You can practically taste the Mojitos and smell the saltwater dripping off this one.

Just in time for ‘Springszn’ comes the aptly titled collab from enuar & kas. Light and airy, it’s the audio equivalent of that first summer-like day after a long winter. The synths warm your skin like sun rays. The steel drums wash away any worries and replace your stress with a feeling of elation. Smiles, slow hip-swaying and smashing replay are the only things on the menu for ‘Springszn.’

Start your week off right with Lucid Monday’s LM025 and remember that Mondays aren’t all bad.

If you love hip-hop or future beat, you’re gonna dig this one. Dilip and Otxhello team up for a new project called late year. Yesterday, we wrote about their new release with Quickly Quickly, called ‘Yo.’ But just when we thought they were finished, they drop a new album.

You’re never going to get bored listening to late year. The album begins cinematically with ‘play!!-‘ making us feel like we’ve just entered Disney’s Magic Kingdom: Trap Edition. The track then diminuendos, giving a silky transition into ‘sinking @@!,’ which features FUXWITHIT fave, chromonicci. I was excited to hear some funk and jazz beats in ‘freeze ^√ ~’ and ‘make it count +={},’ but the pièce de résistance for me had to be ‘A-1$•¥.’ The song takes you for a ride, starting off with bluesy keys and going all gas, no breaks into a sample of E-40’s ‘My Shit Bang.’ What can I say… I’m a simple girl. If you play Bay Area music, I’m gonna get hyphy.

There’s no doubt Dilip and Otxhello have a talent for beat-making and joining forces for late year makes them all the more powerful. Their musicality and versatility, in even just a single track, is dumbfounding. And knowing the young producers are only 21 and 23 years old respectively, will really have you wondering, ‘what the fuck am I doing with my life?’ But enough about me, you have to listen to late year for yourself.

Along with the free download, the team behind Lucid Monday have announced a mysteriously exciting event, Virtual Monday.

When Lucid Monday drops a compilation you stop what you’re doing and listen. Those are the rules. I didn’t make them, but I am here to enforce them. The label has become renowned in the underground community for their absolutely stacked releases and their latest LM024 is no anomaly. With15 tracks, there’s a little bit of everything, from vibey head-nodders, to mellow grooves, and of course brutal bangers. This truly deserves a spin from front to back but if you’re looking for a few standouts, you know we got you.

ini & Dilip do not disappoint with ‘Elements.’ The track fuses foreign film soundscapes, with heavy knock and sprinkles of grime for a feel that’s foreign but right at home. Following their last Lucid Monday release a few months back it seems Losco is really back! This time they link with young trap king in the making LYNY. To label this a banger is an understatement. Dope rap samples, hypnotic synths and drops that feel like getting drop kicked in the chest, what more could you ask for? olswel keeps it ‘positive’ with his contribution, pairing off-kilter bounce with a moving break and ride out. Further along L*o*J flex their exotic trap mastery for a sound that feels like the anthem for a Pharaoh’s coronation party. Looking to get dragged into the darkess? aedfx. and godspeed have your number. Rounding out the can’t miss selections is Deffie & Keeth’s ‘Another One’ which is like getting turnt in the renaissance era with a futuristic twist.

With compilations like this, it seems it’s due time we start looking forward to Mondays.

Lucid Monday has become renowned for their stacked compilations but LM023 might be their biggest to date. Coming out of the gate swinging is the homerun of a banger ‘It’s A Party.’ Not only does it see the return of Losco but it has them linking with Dabow and Mo Vibez. Following with another all-star line-up is Octbr, Dilip, Soudiere & DJ YUNG VAMP with ‘Ride.’ It’s a hazy cloud trap tune with a back half that hits harder than a blunt to the dome. ini (formerly inimicvs) impresses as always with the short but sweet ‘I Just Want’ packing his signature bounce. Other standouts include L*o*j’s ‘Rollin,’ Chromonicci’s ‘Crisis,’ Enuar’s ‘Ivory’ and aedfx.’s ‘Bajo’. Monday’s aren’t so bad when Lucid Monday is putting out new heat.

Mojave is a collaboration between Bay-area trap artist DILIP and Dutch producer Inimicvs. Coming together just last year, the two have proven to be a force to be reckoned with. DILIP started out making very classical instrumental trap, but in the past year has produced for famous rappers such as Lil Pump, Lil Uzi Vert, and Soulja Boy. You can tell DILIP’s influence easily throughout the songs in this piece as the vocal work is absolutely stellar, adding rich layers throughout. As a return to the more instrumental side of things for DILIP, and a potentially ground-breaking release for Inimicvs, there was a lot riding on this work. Make no bones about it, this is an extremely well-crafted cohesive unit that is sure to turn heads.

The first song on the EP ‘Bee Hive’ has a very mischievous air to its beginning notes, almost signaling trouble is coming. The phrase ends and the next begins with the vocals “what” repeated, which is fitting as it leaves the listener hanging on every note, wondering what could possibly be about to hit them. As stated above, the vocal arrangement is perfection, sliding gracefully in and out at the right moment, adding just enough, but not taking away from the instrumental side at all. Vocals from ‘Teach Me How to Dougie’ are included, giving the audience a taste of something familiar, while also making it extremely fresh. This is a song that makes it very difficult not to move.

Next comes ‘Deported,’ which showcases their technical side of production. The first half of the song gives the listener an adventurous feeling, while the 2nd half devolves into a much more bass-heavy feel with a pronounced low-end. This song had me listening multiple times to discern if the notes being played were from bells or if it was just the note organization, which is a huge nod to the sound design and beat structure. Crisp is almost not worthy of an adjective to describe this song. It’s only a minute and a half in length, but you’ll surely wish it were longer.

The last song in this collaborative work is ‘Guap,’ which has a very warm tropical feel, with a bouncy flair. With roughly thirty seconds left in the song, there’s a distinctive vibe shift, giving it a much darker feel. This is in stark contrast to its beginning, and makes for a much more exciting experience overall. My favorite part of this song was how the vocals were arranged to flow from the right side of someone’s headphones to the left, turning a listener’s ears from mono into stereo instantly. This is an exceedingly satisfying technique that both grabs the listener’s attention and adds complex depth. Attention to detail and tight, creative accents are prevalent, making this piece very unique and ear-pleasing.

Mojave is a major success for these two artists and hopefully signs of some very big things to come. But, don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself below!
