Conspiring for a temporary two-track ensemble released via Liquid Amber in 2015 before the project retreated to the shadows where it’s remained ever since, leaving an ever-dwindling hope that the two might reunite again in the future.

‘Posse’ is a track that emphatically predates any sonic comparison of its kind. An abnormally precursive vocal sample sets into motion an unnerving echoing of steely percussion and muffled invocation, which gently dissipates as an incisive blade sets loose a mercurial torrent of low-resonating bass frequencies.

Reminisce with Nite School Klik’s ‘Posse’ below!

I never imagined them coming together on a track but it’s 2017 and collaboration has never been at a better place. Proving this once more comes ‘Systematic’. The cut sees Shadow crafting a wild backdrop which is part classic boom-bap and part futuristic. Nas provides fitting bars that range from schemin’ in the hood back in the day to investing in start-ups at present time. With some stellar samples and cuts this one is rounded out perfectly. The track comes off the upcoming Soundtrack for HBO’s stellar comedy Silicon Valley. Peep the collision of two legends below and don’t forget to check out Silicon Valley which returns this Sunday!

In 1996, DJ Shadow released Endtroducing. A project that would come to define what the term classic means when referring to an instrumental based project. From its beginning to end, the project was masterfully composed, showcasing just how far sampling can go to create something groundbreakingly original. With Entroducing celebrating it’s 20th anniversary, Shadow has allowed some of the best producers of today to put their touch on the iconic tracks. The album contains reworks from the likes of Hudson Mohawke, UZ, Salva, Clams Casino, Prince Paul and more. Each artist manages to rework the tracks skillfully, injecting in a new sound without forgetting what made the originals so special. UZ’s rework of ‘Organ Donor’ is perhaps the most eyebrow-raising. Taking on Shadow’s most renowned song is no easy feat, and trapping it out is sure to offend some purists at first glance. That said, what UZ crafts is nothing short of amazing. The whole project is exceptionally well put together, but above all it serves as a reminder of Shadow’s legacy. Listen to all the reworks below and let us know your favourites.

I stumbled upon DJ Shadow’s Entroducing on Amazon about a decade ago, back when I used to use Amazon as a music discovery tool. From the first listen my mind was blown. The album provided me with a deeper appreciation for instrumental music and lead me down the rabbit hole of trip-hop; an exploration that greatly expanded my musical tastes and opened my mind. After hearing the Private Press l was even more impressed by his unique style and range. When 2006 rolled around I was hyped for the release of The Outsider, an excitement which turned to disappointment. As time passed Shadow fell of my radar, that is, until this week when I came upon ‘Swerve’.

‘Swerve’ is everything that made Shadow so impressive. It’s dark and different with insane drum programming, all combined with a modern deep bass feel. It’s trap influenced but crafted in a way that defies the genre’s typical constructs. Whether you’re an old fan who lost touch, a die hard, or someone who’s never heard his name before, this track is sure to win you over. If this is any indication of what’s to come from Shadow, 2016 is going to be very interesting. Bump the track below and grab the free download.
