Today’s #tbt brings takes us all the way back to 2013 – a simpler time where trap music was far more stripped back – to Djemba Djemba’s legendary remix of ‘Fall Over’ by BANKS. Having produced for the likes of Major Lazer, Alison Wonderland, Justin Bieber, and Britney Spears over the years and released his self-titled debut album under the new moniker, Magic In The Rain, just a short week ago, we thought we’d turn the spotlight to one of our favorite tracks from the Team Supreme OG. Summoning the catchiest elements from BANKS’ early hit in a perfectly executed buildup, Djemba drives this banger home with dummy thick 808s and stereo-friendly sampling.

Relive an iconic era of trap music through the mind of this accomplished producer by listening below.

Known for his unannounced drops, Mr. Carmack is back with yet another EP out of nowhere. Released over Thanksgiving, Rekindling is here to make a statement. “happy thanksgiving. this album is a thank you, and a stern reminder to take this holiday season to revisit and rekindle the flame in you. to take more of an active part in the world and not lie dormant. you work to survive. but, what in your heart is your end goal?” The words from Carmack make it clear that this isn’t your typical release (read his full statement below). Building upon this is the fact that all proceeds will be donated to tribal elders and the <s>#</s>NODAPL cause. Fittingly, the project’s content is an exciting blend of Carmack’s signature sound and politically charged and informative samples. Rekindling opens with the words “We are here in prayer, and the police are now attacking and assaulting us.” From the beginning it challenges listeners to think beyond the bangers and look at what’s going. The project also features Gladiator and a collaborative effort with Djemba Djemba. Actually Djemba Djemba produced half of the 9 tracks on the project, so it’s really a Mr. Carmack x Djemba Djemba EP. You can listen to ‘BIOTRUTH’ below and grab the whole project on Bandcamp.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/294672452″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]

From Mr. Carmack:

happy thanksgiving. this album is a thank you, and a stern reminder to take this holiday season to revisit and rekindle the flame in you. to take more of an active part in the world and not lie dormant. you work to survive. but, what in your heart is your end goal?

with whom or what lies your passion to expand your soul, to keep your heart pumping and allow you to express and to be yourself, fully?

by looking for ways to maximize the health, and longevity not just for yourself, but for this earth, you can use that path as your guide, and believe me you will find that passion in you. too long you’ve been silenced, placated, ameliorated, flat out lied to, medicated, pilled, reprocessed, taken advantage of, snuffed out, desensitized, overstimulated, and stuffed with preservatives, processed sugars and white pills, monotonous music, mindless alternate realities on cable tv, brainless celebrity idols and carnival games to keep you entertained, like a baby.

no. what does this world need? who controls the world? and who’s controlling them? who’s there to tell them they’re fucking it up for everyone and they shouldn’t do that? not only for the sake of the wellbeing of earth, but for us as well? it is up to us. the people.

so, with that, after work next monday, don’t just go home and take to your tv or computer and turn your brain off. a paycheck is not your end goal in life. join a library. take a class. teach a class somewhere. read something. take up a hobby. paint outside. learn to plant a tree. cut meat out your diet. read up about clean energy tech. engage yourself. look into local farms. or just read, post and repost positive constructive shit on your social media.

its really not up to anyone, or any god, anymore., to tell us everything will be ok. i am not a baby. it is truly up to us as the most powerful species in the known universe and the sheer power of the instantaneous internet to shepherd this world in a positive direction for all of us. otherwise, we die. in any denominational way you choose.

happy thanksgiving.

This is the type of music you listen to in a dark dingy basement club after 2am. It’s the type of shit you don’t even dance too, you just stand there swaying, with your face twisted up. It’s dark, weird, gritty, and hard-hitting. With music from Djemba Djemba, Hucci, Wollymammoth, Jackal, Losco, Baauer and more. It’s definitely not for everyone but bass heads won’t be able to get enough.
