Sometimes you stumble upon an artist on SoundCloud and you wonder how you haven’t heard of them yet. Their music is top notch, but they only have a few hundred followers. This is the case when we discovered SuperAve, an up-and-coming artists with only 200 followers. Having only put out 4 tracks total, it’s no joke to say he’s new to the game, but the power behind his tracks tells us that’s he’s been working hard for a minute.

Starting with an eerie ambiance and a looped Bun B vocal chant, ‘Astros’ shoots off into a world of warm, gritty lead basses and analog-like sound design, that is reminiscent of Eprom and G Jones. With relentless energy, SuperAve doesn’t give his listener’s a chance to acclimate to the new world; instead choosing to flex insane sound design skills. The listener is finally given a chance to breathe as SuperAve charges his thrusters for maximum energy before the second drop where you are thrown back into deep space.

Watch out for Superave, he’s sure to make his mark on the bass music scene soon.

Coming through with their third release in just over a week is sfam with ‘slide.’ The New Orleans based duo has been taking the scene by storm with a constant stream of impeccable releases. Their sound embodies the simplicity and minimalist approach that helped make trap so universally loved in its early days. But don’t think that means their sound is dated. Quite the opposite, they pair this less-is-more approach with incredible sound design and a futuristic bounce that pushes the boundaries of bass music. The end result is experimental and exciting with a familiar foundation.

Their latest release ‘slide’ doesn’t stray from this model. The simple name gives you a taste of what to expect, “we just came to the conclusion that the lead sounds like it’s going down a slide,” sfam explain. As you slip your way through this one it gets deeper and more menacing. It’s a downward spiral that keeps gaining momentum while getting darker. When it opens up, it does so with a bang. Lighters spark while deep grunts and high “heys” and scattered throughout giving it an OG trap feel. These elements are paired with a dizzying dash of deep bass and some serious wonked out bounce. When crafting this record sfam said they, “were going for a nice, deep, bouncy rhythm to wook out too.” They’ve definitely crafted a track that is nice, deep and bouncy, wooking out is up to you. Stream it below and grab the free download via The Dog Pound.
