With Dr. Dre dropping his first album in 16 years, we felt it was only right to revisit a track from the good doctor. But if you like music, chances are you’ve heard most of Dre’s acclaimed hits. So rather than running back to one of the classic joints we decided to look back to this San Holo remix of Dre’s ‘The Next Episode’. Originally featured on Chronic 2001, ‘The Next Episode’ was one of the many tracks that dominated stereo systems, charts and clubs. Even today, the track is clearly an anthem at festivals as is this San Holo remix. The track chops up the original beat and vocals and San also loops in Snoop’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’. The melody is super cheery and is sure to make you feel all the feels even if you aren’t rolling up. Peep below.

Earlier this week The Game’s debut album The Documentary celebrated it’s 10 year anniversary. To celebrate we’d like to take a look at the debut single ‘Westside Story’. Thanks to Game’s charasmatic sound, eyebrow raising bars and production from Dr. Dre and Scott Storch the song quickly garnered major buzz and new fans. The fact that G-Unit head honcho 50 Cent lended himself to the hook couldn’t have hurt either. The track is a certified West coast anthem that’s bursting with quotable lyrics,“Since the West coast fell off, the streets been watchin’, The West coast never fell off, I was asleep in Compton, Aftermath been here, the beats been knockin’, Nate Dogg doin’ his thing, DPG still poppin’
I got California Love, fuckin’ bitches to that ‘Pac shit, and Westside Connection, been had it locked bitch”. If you were a hip-hop fan back in 05′ you’ll probably still be able to rap along bar for bar. Enjoy!

It was only a matter of time. The latest Aftermath signee, Jon Connor is prepping his major label debut and in order to kick off his promo run he dropped bars over the Ross and Hov cut, “The Devil is a Lie“. In case you didn’t know, Jon Connor has been in the game for a minute. He’s been dropping mixtapes since 2005 but earned himself some serious looks when he released The People’s Rapper LP and The Blue Album. The People’s Rapper was inspired by Eminem and The Blue Album was inspired by Jay Z. If you notice his discography, Connor enjoys creating thematic projects. He even created a mixtape revolving around the HBO show Entourage entitled, Jon Connor as Vinnie Chase: Season One (2010). The most recent mixtapes caught the ear of Dr.Dre and with Dre’s track record, we’re sure Jon Connor will be able to deliver a solid debut. Check out the track below, he goes in!

Happy Birthday to the Doctor! Today marks the legendary Dr.Dre‘s 49th birthday. Originally a member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, this man is responsible for bringing N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and more recently Kendrick Lamar to the forefront of rap. Those are some serious hip hop heavyweights, which in turn makes the Doc one of the illest to ever do it. His discography stretches across decades. From “Fuck the Police” with N.W.A. to “Nuthin But a G Thang” with Snoop to “Forgot About Dre” with Eminem, Dr.Dre is undeniably one of the most influential characters in the <del>hip hop</del>, music game.

There’s no reason to detail this man’s incredible history granted his tenure in the game, but know that he does not go unnoticed, even if he’s not in the spotlight as much nowadays. “The Chronic” and “2001” were certified classics. I don’t know how anyone could disagree. Each of these albums were lyrically sharp and had some of the best production ever. His catalogue of records is incredible, and below is one of my favourites.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mMR5TwOoJg&w=420&h=315]

Dre’s ear for music is unreal, so much so that he has produced score for feature films like “Bad Boys II” and provided additional production for “Training Day”. And in case you didn’t know, Dre is also quite the entrepreneur with his Beats by Dre product and service line.

The Doctor has received multiple awards and accolades (including Vibe’s Lifetime Achievement Award, y’all remember Buck stabbing homie? – what a moment), is a legend in the game and his legacy will definitely continue to grow. His latest work can be found on Kendrick’s good kid, m.A.A.d. city, which if you ask me (and most heads) is another classic.

So, roll one and vibe out to the sounds of the Doctor. Happy Birthday Dr. Dre!
