If you’re a fan of west coast bass then it’s fairly safe to say you’re no stranger to Sleeveless Records. As the brainchild of the legendary Canadian sound wizard Stylust, Sleevless has been on the cutting edge of all things bass music for several years now, always repping the wildest, freshest artists in the game with a relentlessly passionate tenacity.

So it should come as no surprise to anyone that their next undertaking would be to shine a spotlight on some of the talent we might be missing amidst this vast ocean of digital media we find ourselves adrift in every waking moment of our lives. Enter Sleeveless’ Proving Grounds, a painstakingly curated compilation of sounds from an eclectic array of fresh faces including Date Modified Tomorrow, Brainrack, Adiidas, and more!

So without further ado we are incredibly pleased to have the opportunity to present to you Mythm’s contribution to the madness entitled, ‘Close Your Eyes,’ in anticipation of the full drop next week. This absolute monster of a tune features expertly crafted, dark purple basslines, and crisp, hectic drums that blaze through a dark and hauntingly thugged out atmosphere with a confidence and ferocity that absolutely demands your attention start to finish. Icona Pop – Just Another Night (Alex Young Remix)

Alex Young just uploaded his remix to Icona Pop’s single Just Another Night. The song starts out with a big build leading into “Make it Bump” vocals. It then drops into some crazy, mind rattling madness. Overall it has a progressive/electrohouse feel but that drop is something in and of it’s own right. The song can be streamed below. For the download you’ll have to wait until January 27th (iTunes) or January 28 (Beatport). Alex Young has given away a ton of music in the past year, so he asks fans to support this release when it comes out. Let us know your thoughts below.

Artist Spotlight – Sinjin Hawke

Personally, I don’t dabble too much out of the Hip Hop/Rap realm but when Trap exploded onto the mainstream music scene it was extremely hard to ignore. Now, I’m constantly looking for fresh Trap music. A perfect combination of Hip Hop buzz lyrics, heavy bass, synths and snares that will slap you silly. There are a slew of producers out there professional and amateur alike and as a result there is a massive amount of Trap available for consumption. That being said, its become difficult to stand out from the crowd and differentiate oneself as an artist. Through some research I was doing for another one of my posts I found a producer whose music I automatically gravitated towards.

Sinjin Hawke. Young blood hailing from Barcelona, Spain with a handful of tracks that bump hard in your car. I immediately looked up his SoundCloud and started going through his tracks. This up-and-coming producer has a few gems on his hands which are sure to set the clubs on fire. One of my favourite tracks is the one that I first heard, “Three Fine Hoes”. The pick up, slow down and drop had me hooked. Peep the track below.

Upon further investigation, I found that Hawke has a decent following in the 20 thousands that has been supporting his music for more than a year, but also that he’s been touring throughout Europe. Sinjin Hawke also has a pretty great ear for music. One of his tracks that I find to be bananas with regard to production is “Prom Night”. Listen for yourself.

Now this track is almost a year old but if this is any indication of what we can expect from Sinjin Hawke, then we can definitely expect some great beats to bump to. In more recent Hawke news, Just Blaze and the Barcelona native collaborated on a track together for the Red Bull Music Academy. Check our post on that here and peep the track.

I’m putting Sinjin Hawke on our Watch List as an artist to watch for this year. He’s got some heat and if you don’t believe me check out one of his latest tracks and the honorable mentions list.

Artist Spotlight – Wave Racer

I stumbled onto Sydney, Australia’s Wave Racer at the end of last year and was instantly impressed. His music is upbeat, bouncy and has just the right amount of heavy bass. It’s so upbeat that it’s hard to listen to one of his tracks without a smile your face. The way he combines beautiful synths with distorted vocal samples and heavy bass creates a soundscape matched by few. The first track that put me on Wave Racer was his remix of Cosmo’s Midnight – The Dofflin. The song samples Aaliyah’s – Are You That Somebody. Wave Race bends the vocals perfectly to fit the upbeat track so that they are just within recognition. Were it not for Timbaland’s “Uh-huh” I may not have even been able to recognize the sample.

His Remix of Panama’s – Always is quite possibly his best work. He takes the song in a completely new direction. As soon you hear the “d-d-down” you know you in for a treat, but with Wave Racer his sounds are never anything you can predict.

Rock U Tonight is another huge track. It starts with a beautiful melody then builds into a glitch synth heavy drop with distorted sped up vocals reminiscent of Daft Punk. The song is sure to have “Let Me Rock You Tonight” playing through your head all day.
