Apashe – Golden Empire EP

Apashe is back once again with a two track EP entitled ‘Golden Empire’. The EP opens with the title track and it is nothing short of epic. Featuring lush vocals from Zitaa and massive drums, this sounds like a battle cry for an ancient civilization remixed for 2014. Clocking in at 6 minutes the song takes you on a journey through bass with several peaks and valleys. The second track off the EP ‘Sand Storm’ features some aggressive bars from female MCs Odalisk. No strangers to working together (see No Twerk & Overload) the collaboration is seamless. The turnt up vocals and wildly hard hitting trapstep drops are a perfect match. No longer a mystery man, ZHU just released his debut, 6 track EP, The Nightday. It includes: Faded, Superfriends, Paradise Awaits, and three brand new tracks: Stay Closer, The One, and Cocaine Model. If this is your first time hearing ZHU be prepared for deep bass lines, seductive synths and majestic vocals. Logic just released the title track off his upcoming While You Wait EP. Swiff D crafted a smooth soulful beat for Logic to address the wait on his upcoming album and speak directly to his fans. “My fans probably thinking he won’t never drop that shit/ but I’m trying to make it perfect, so you all cop that shit/ and even if it leak, I’ll still do 100 first week/ taking my time, with every rhyme, so not a single verse weak”. BASECAMP – EP

Although we are slightly late to the punch on this EP we believe it is never too late to share music that is truly great. The following EP comes to you from Nashville Tennessee’s fantastic production trio BASECAMP. Taking you on a journey through what is a seamless infusion of downtempo R&B sounds, with hip-hop and electronic influence. Live instrumentals also aid in conveying their unique sound, and add a deeper layer to the music.

The EP automatically begins by entrancing you with the mystic sounds of the song ‘Emmanuel’ and showcases the trio’s amazing writing and production ability of capturing emotion through sound. The song seems to give off that feeling of maintaining calm while your heart continues to race until that final moment when all emotions are released and the song breaks.

Continuing off the final beat of “Emmanuel” BASECAMP continues their story with ‘2 Thingz’, a song of realization and moving on. “I’d realized we’d broken everything we swore/the pain you inflict seems to have no affect/the blood on your hands fills you with no regret.”

Flowing in next is ‘Rydia’, my personal favourite. When the song finally kicks in with its classic R&B vocals over the glitchy up-beat undertones you can’t help but nod your head. Side note: Playing this is the song will aid you in your attempts to seduce a lover (one night or long term).

BASECAMP wraps it all up with ‘Smoke Filled Lungs’ finally letting you go and allowing your emotions to fall back into a neutral feeling of contempt. Overall this is just one of those EPs that is so good you feel obligated to purchase it online in support of the artists and their aspirations but let us know your thoughts.

gLAdiator – Assembly Line EP

LA based duo gLAdiator just dropped their new EP Assembly Line and it is no joke! It was released today (April 1) on Fool’s Gold Records and features 5 brand new tracks. ‘Work’ gets things started with a gritty basement rattling sound. ‘Sweat’ sees a new vibe for the duo with some wild synths and a housey, electro feel with nice progression. On ‘Assembly Line’ things get grimey once again. The song takes you to an underwater industrial rave with sounds that’ll melt your brain. ‘230 Feeling’ brings a new sound to the festival trap genre, with a massive build and absolutely stupid drops. The EP closes out with ‘Weekend’ which is easily a standout. This is a TURNUP anthem that is sure to get booties poppin’, ladies droppin’ and the whole club generally losing their shit. Overall the EP is hard-hitting as Mike Tyson in his prime and a must listen for anyone who likes bass music or just enjoys to party. Stream below and purchase the full EP on iTunes. #SQUAD

Buku – Down EP

Bass king Buku just dropped a new 3 track EP. If you haven’t heard of Buku, you’re in for a treat. He is one of the most original trap/bass producers out right now. ‘Down’ starts things off right. The beat is catchy with simple distorted vocals. ‘Click Clack’ is the clear stand out and most reminiscent of Buku’s earlier work. This the truest Trap track on the EP. It features chopped vocals “Fuck with Hood” as the track builds before dropping into some dark, mind bending, grittiness that only Buku is capable off. The final track ‘No One Does’ sees Buku getting his most adventures. The song takes you on a genre bending ride. I’ll warn you it may not be for everyone but if you like weird stuff, you’ll love this. You can stream the EP below but if you are looking for a download you’ll have to cop it off iTunes.
