Ephwurd and Oneeva are feeling generous this holiday season, and dropped a music video to their latest collaborative tune! It follows not too long after ‘Function‘ officially became the third release via Ephwurd’s new label, Eph’d Up Records.

The video follows the theme of the song to a tee, from start to finish. Alongside the lyrics, the video features a robot who appears to be “speaking” to us about her unknown past. Her representation undoubtedly goes well with the fact that Oneeva’s own Natalie Kyoko Waters’ vocals are “roboticized” for the song. Frankly, this helps remove the line dividing humanity and robotics, especially as we ourselves are slowly being integrated into an automated and/or mechanized future.

The drop itself comes complete with hard-working assembly machines and exploding circuit boards, to help portray its mechanized electro synths and furious bassline – all before things take a reality-warping turn. Before giving too much away though, check out and sing along to the video below; also hit up the download if you want this gnarly tune as a last-minute addition to your 2017 playlist!

With festival season over, the bass-fueled power duo Ephwurd are back in the studio, to drop some more fire tracks! This first song (of several) is Phunky Beats, a collaboration with Jvst Say Yes, which also kicks off their new label, Eph’d Up Records.

Playing off well-known samples from Public Enemy (as well as a cameo appearance from the cult classic The Warriors), this bass-house banger will get you bouncing off the walls and grooving to its funk-laced style, thanks in conjunction to the electro-synths and signature mechanical bassline.

Regarding the new label, Ephwurd states that “Sometimes we finish a song and it won’t be months until you, the fans, get to hear what we have been working on and it’s such a huge bummer.” The duo goes on to say that starting their own label “gives us the freedom to give you folks music when we want and when you deserve it, because life is happening now and it’s not set on some schedule.” If you dig it, hit up the download and let this funky beat rock your speakers!

Datsik and Bais Haus have been busy as of lately, particularly when it comes to their collaborative project Ephwurd. Between their monthly radio show, as well as an upcoming EP, the duo is also currently embarking on a North America-wide spring tour to kick off the outdoor musical festivities! Amidst all of this, we had the pleasure to gain some insight and see how things are going – here’s what they had to say on the matter.

How did you guys come together?

We met through Steve Aoki at Identity Fest back in like 2009. We started touring together about 2 years later, and started writing songs on the road. Eventually we had enough material to actually make it into a real project and thus Ephwurd was born!

With Ephwurd we have kinda been going all over the place but our home rests at 128bpm with bass house.

How does the dynamic of producing and touring differ from your solo projects?

Well we’ve been touring together for about 5 years now, so there isn’t much of a difference there. As for production, Datsik’s music is primarily 140 – 150bpm dubstep with a lot of hip hop and Shaolin influence. With Ephwurd we have kinda been going all over the place but our home rests at 128bpm with bass house.

I (Bais Haus) was always a “behind the scenes” kid, writing music for TV and ghost producing for other DJs. Ephwurd was really my first step into the limelight.

How’s the tour been by far? Any memorable/crazy moments that stick out to you?

The tour has been non-stop this month lol. I think one of the best moments so far was eating turkey legs and jousting at MiddleLands after playing in front of like 15,000 kids.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/290832349″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

What’s a tune you’ve enjoyed playing in your sets recently?

Oh man, good question. The Bassnectar remix of Get Deaded is INSANE!!!!

If you could host your own festival(s) with no limitations, what would it look like?

Shambhala lol

June’s almost here – how’s the upcoming Eph’d Up Radio #3 looking so far?

Actually just started hunting for new tracks today ;) Got some good ones to play out. Stay tuned.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/320971341″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

With summer around the corner, what are you guys looking most forward to?

EDC Vegas Main Stage set, Lollapalooza, Shambhala…. Finishing our EP and releasing it ;)

Since you’re both massive lovers of sushi, what are your favourite sashimi/sushi rolls?

Mmmmmmm Suuuuushhhiiiiii….. Well we’ve kinda graduated from all the crazy rolls to just finding the best quality fish out there. New Zealand salmon has been at the top of our list. We will literally crush as much of that as humanly possible. I (Bais Haus) have been going off the deep end with eating weird fish, nothing is off limits anymore. Uni (sea urchin) has become a staple for me and now I’m really into Iwashi (sardine).

Also, finding perfect yellowtail has been like the quest for the holy grail.

We’re really exploring what we are capable of vs. simply releasing non-stop bangers.

What can we expect from you musically in the near future?

A lot of different stuff. Some kids might hate it, others might love it. We’re really exploring what we are capable of vs. simply releasing non-stop bangers. We are excited as hell but also shitting our pants at the same time. We can’t wait for kids to hear what we’ve been cooking up!

The duo has a few more Canadian and American stops remaining before focusing on their festival sets for the quickly-approaching summer. Check out their remaining spring tour dates below. If you can, also catch them during their summer festival run – you won’t be disappointed!

The Hoxton saw a huge turnout for the most recent installment of Embrace & Hunter Siegel’s No Neon series this past weekend. This time around, we were blessed to be graced with Ephwurd, the deadly duo consisting of Troy Beetles (better known as Vancouver dubstep beast Datsik), and his partner-in-crime/close friend, Basie Hauser (colloquially known as Bais Haus). The night was also very special for them, as it was the first time they had ever played together in Toronto, let alone all of Canada.

The night starts off with openers Nu Alias, warming up the crowd with some mid-energy tracks, such as Durante’s ‘Full Moon’ – something to limber up to while waiting to throw the fuck down very soon. As midnight approaches though, the bass gets progressively heavier – up to a point where the crowd is losing their minds to Endor’s ‘Be Mine’ at the stroke of midnight.

During that, Hunter Siegel pops up on stage, and takes over on the decks, and not too soon after is accompanied by fellow producers such as Grandtheft, Shaun Frank and Autoerotique, who take turns mixing songs for the crowd. Before long, there are signs floating about in the crowd, with a fire emoji and the message “IT’S LIT FAM” – which seems like it’s becoming a staple for No Neon.

After about an hour or so, Troy and Basie arrive, with big grins, as if they’re about to unleash a tremendous force upon us – which, of course, they end up doing. One of their opening tracks is ‘Rock the Party’, their infamous smasher with Jauz, and right off the bat, the crowd easily loses their shit – headbanging and throwing down to the sheer depth, filth and stupidity of the bass being pumped out.

In the middle of the crowd, a mosh pit forms – one unlike any mosh pit I’ve witnessed before. This one doesn’t seem to die out, instead it gets progressively wilder as the night goes on. The huge smiles on the patrons’ faces throughout justified the unity and collective enjoyment from such orchestrated catharsis.

Truth be told, it was my first time coming to terms with my dormant inner basshead, and being as sore as I was the following morning was so fucking worth it!
