Don’t look now but LA-Based bass wizard eugene is coming for throats in 2020. Fresh off his vanta EP on Bassweight Records, the young menace is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. With world-class sound design and creative percussion elements that draw influence from almost every genre of bass music, eugene has never failed to create an otherworldly soundscape that truly takes listeners on a trip. This time he returns with a powerful two-track EP titled Carbon, in which more emphasis is placed on his spectral vocals while still retaining those chaotic bass-heavy sections.

Beginning with ‘stay here,’ we are immediately thrown into an intro filled with ghostly vocals and heavy-hitting 808s which seem to perfectly dance around each other all the while building tension. After this section, the tension rises while the percussion is omitted to highlight what is to come in the drop. What happens next is nothing short of extraordinary, as the first drop is filled with some of the most violent and loud synths you’ll hear right now, truly painting the picture of an encounter with some otherworldly beast. The second drop gives us a trapped out version of the first, providing the perfect epilogue to this rotten space ballad.

Finishing off the EP we have ‘climate’ which paints an eerie picture of the future with spazzy hi-hats, 808 patterns, and relevant lyrics that are a perfect fit thematically. The energy throughout this project is constant and powerful, and we come to expect nothing less from eugene. Oh, and did we mention it’s a free download? What are you waiting for, go grab it now!

For nearly two years, the LA native eugene has been growing and refining his craft in the underground bass scene. eugene is the epitome of what an underground artist is supposed to be. Letting the music speak for itself, his first releases were void of all artwork, making you experience the music alone. The ambiguity has not only built suspense around further releases but also allowed the tracks to come into their own life and breathe. Not being confined to genres and touching on everything from house to trap along the way, eugene is a role model to all producers looking to expand their craft. This time the bass wizard returns with his Vanta EP on Bassweight records.

The title track of the EP immediately sets the dark and ominous tone of the project. Nearly every section of Vanta is a collection of world-class sound design, ghostly vocals, and menacing hi-hats. In ‘what’s that,’ the intro is a beautiful mix of spectral vocals and wavy drum patterns which is then met by speaker rattling low-end synths. Next up on ‘pull up’ eugene once again places his otherworldly vocals into chilling soundscape filled with growling synths. Finally, we have ‘creep’ which is a fitting name to a track that truly creeps up on you. With almost a full minute of suspense building risers and synths, we are thrown into a chaotic drop filled with sounds from the monsters under your bed. Check out this testament to the underground below!

Two years ago, a mysterious entity appeared on SoundCloud and started to share masterful blends of various genres of bass music. Fast forward to the present, the California Native eugene has garnered support from the likes of PEEKABOO, STUCA, and many other established names in the scene. eugene’s elite sound design is on par if not exceeding some of the biggest names in the game, and his percussion elements and patterns are reminiscent of what many call, the golden age of SoundCloud trap.

eugene introduces the eerie lead vocal sample at the very beginning of ‘Float’, followed by a grimey 808 lead beat with an echoing snare perfectly placed in the mix. During the next minute, the staggering pattern of hi hats gives the track its trap element, and the echoing snares are joined by drum-kit snares giving ‘Float’ an extra layer that truly fills this section. After a suspense filled build up, eugene shows off his impeccable sound design with an evil lead which is skillfully manipulated throughout the rest of the track. Make sure to check this one out on all streaming platforms and grab a free download while you’re at it!

Shrouded in ambiguity, Los Angeles production genius eugene spent nearly 2 years releasing immensely sophisticated tracks everywhere from bass house to dubstep, touching on nearly every genre in-between with astounding precision. Devoid of artwork entirely, these predecessors to his more recently donned dark fusion-trap depict a period of experimentation, during which the promising young talent sampled delicacies of many varieties in an effort to discover his own path as an artist.

In his latest expedition, trojan a sense of clarity and confidence shines through, despite the sheer dexterity and range that the project encapsulates. Demonstrating his more emotional, synth-heavy persona, ‘Mutual’ presents an angelic opening to the EP, with a majestic vocal accompaniment and commanding percussion that instills a sense of assurance in the listener.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/552907371″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Riveting composition and a sensationally smooth vocal melody line the introduction of ‘trojan’ as the EP begins to really take shape. A high-paced riser builds the energy of the track to a peak, before unleashing an onslaught of grungy bass wobbles and grainy synth breakdowns.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/561718461″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

As you reach the midway point, an unmistakable pivot in cadence materializes. A funky bassline and rears its face amid a tantalizing electro-inspired introduction in ‘ping’. As the energy of the track reaches a crescendo a daunting beat break revitalizes the obsessive bass-clad backbone of the song, captivating the listener in an immersive, groovy breakdown.

Building upon this same insatiable energy, a tight snare drum and eccentric rhythm lead seamlessly into the culminating piece of the project ‘Headshot’. As the track hits its groove, a cavernous bassline seeps in, absorbing the listener entirely as the spectacular EP comes to a close.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/playlists/692027256″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”300″ iframe=”true” /]
