Teaming up with James Blake to create ‘Afterlife,’ there’s no doubt this was well worth the wait. They express that even if you have money, power, or fame, your life is still in danger if you’re Black. The Brooklyn rappers say, “Paranoid when I’m countin’ every dollar / ‘Cause tomorrow ain’t promised when you’re black /Should I say anybody goin’ through it like I did, skin color hybrid.”

The Black Lives Matter movement has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds lately, so Flatbush Zombies returning to shed more light on the topic isn’t surprising. And the music video, directed by Arnaud Bresson (who also works with RL Grime), also gives flawless representation for ‘Afterlife.’ It was filmed in x-ray vision, showing that racial injustices still happen, even if we’re all the same inside.

Enlisting James Blake to create a solemn and beautiful atmosphere made the serious song immaculate. While ‘Afterlife’ is more somber than other Flatbush Zombies tracks, it still has a positive message to enjoy your life while you have it. While not all of us can relate to the plights of systemic racism, we can all take the meaning of the song to heart as we trug along during the pandemic.

The latest hip-hop cerberus is composed of the groups Flatbush Zombies, Pro Era, and The Underachievers aka Beast Coast. This formation comes with the return of Joey Bada$$ and latest collaboration titled ‘Left Hand.’ It also comes with the announcement of a joint tour titled Escape From New York, that begins in July and runs through August. With all of this, Meechy Darko took to social media to tease a forthcoming Beast Coast album. As each group are Brooklyn based artists, it only made sense to put on for New York and the east coast by cordially joining forces.

‘Left Hand’ possesses a breathtaking total of nine MC’s laying down verses. Joey Bada$$, Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice, Erick Arc Elliott, Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution, CJ Fly, AK and Issa Gold each distribute unhinged bars. Meechy Darko of Flatbush Zombies handles the merciless hook before jumping into the first verse with Pro Era’s Nyck Caution. After this, members from each group battle it out in a friendly competition only pushing each other to come with their hottest lines. Check out the war zone of written poetry below, out now on Pro Era Records, and keep an eye out for the upcoming album. Tour tickets are also now on sale.
