Few producers are keeping the melodic touch of dubstep alive as well as Franky Nuts has done over the last couple of years. Finding a fitting home with Circus Records for the majority of his releases, the Dutch producer has consistently demonstrated his ability to add emotion and euphoria to his tracks while still keeping the gritty essence of bass.

Looking to pick up right where he left off, Franky Nuts returns to the London-based label with an official remix for the label-head himself. Tackling Flux Pavilion’s jubilant ‘Somebody Else’ featuring poignant vocals from GLNNA, Franky Nuts balances the endearing touch of the original with his own bass-riddled sound to perfection. The vocals from GLNNA are kept intact in the introduction yet are layered above energy-building chords that hint at the onslaught of ecstasy that follows. As the drop hits, quintessential Franky Nuts comes to light through punchy bass stabs and vibrant chords, making his remix of ‘Somebody Else’ a certified bop. Check it out below.

Flux Pavilion and What So Not are two legends in the scene that need no introduction. The former has recently been exploring new avenues with his musical direction, often tapping vocalists to drive emotion in his melodic-driven pieces. Similarly, What So Not has also been delving into new realms of electronic music as he has done so often in the past, diving into drum & bass among other genres over the last few months. This elaborate versatility from both artists has enticed them to finally come together on a track which finally sees the light of day today.

Featuring The Chain Gang of 1974, ’20:25′ is a magical, extravagant piece that highlights the strengths of all members involved. Although several elements can be attributed to a specific producer, these influences come together to form a spine-chilling melodic piece that will evoke a plethora of emotions. What So Not’s synths and vocal processing drive the introduction, before Flux Pavilion’s influence and distinctive percussion chime in to bring listeners to the track’s climax. As the seventy-five second mark hits, all styles come together in intricate layers of melodies, chords and vocals to create a feel-good, summer-extending vibe that will undoubtedly put a smile on your face. Bouncy yet emotive, ’20:25′ is an epic clash of legends that will leave you in awe of Flux Pavilion and What So Not’s ability to mesh their styles flawlessly. Dive in below.

2018 has barely begun, and we’re already getting announcements for this year’s round of festivals! In Ontario, the first festival out the door is Kitchener’s Ever After Music Festival.

Taking place June 8th-10th at Bingemans, this year’s lineup has amusement park rides, a waterpark, and a slew of top-notch artists sure to unite bassheads and festivalgoers across the GTA (and beyond). All things combined, it’s set to be an entire weekend of music, fun, as well as potential neckbraces the following Monday.

Last year was well known for its back-to-back-to-back set, which featured Cookie Monsta, 12th Planet, and Funtcase. The good news is that such an experience will be making a return this year – what’s more is that this year will feature an additional 7 back-to-back sets on top of that:
–Flux Pavilion & Doctor P;
–Midnight T & Megalodon;
–Excision & Datsik (Sunday’s headliners);
-and Zomboy & Skism, to name a few.

Pure dubstep/Riddim aside, there’s also going to be features such as Hydee for some solid dnb action, Space Jesus & Liquid Stranger bringing some glorious space music, and Sullivan King, who knows the intricacies of the guitar like the back of his hand.

Those who are more into the house side of electronic music will be pleased to hear that Saturday will feature some of the best in the genre! Claude VonStroke will be headlining on Saturday, along with a wide variety of variations of house. From French bass house sensation Dombresky, to the return of Daniel Portman, whose groovy set was much-talked about after last year’s festivities, to AC Slater bringing his Night Bass vibe to the grounds, there’s an entire afternoon of shuffling and g-stepping for those itching to do so.

There’s also a petition going around to help justify sound levels & curfew for the festival, which have proposed changes after last year caused a surge in noise complaints on the final evening. Considering how much energy everybody put into the Sunday closers, Zeds Dead, it’s not all too surprising, though – yet one can only hope that the residents and festivalgoers can come to an acceptable agreement.

Tickets for Ever After can be bought here – don’t sleep on this though, since this year’s already looking very promising! Take a look at the full lineup below.

Joshua Steele, best known as Flux Pavilion, made a pit stop in Toronto on May 4th as part of his Around the World in 80 Raves grand tour – accompanied by Kayzo, Moksi, and a special guest who helped turn up the hype and revel with us, on that rainy Thursday evening.

I hadn’t been to UNIUN Nightclub in some while, and forgot how unbelievably hot the room could get, to the point that I could feel the heat emanating from people standing a foot away from me. Regardless of the sweltering heat, endless sweat, and inability to move, every single face in the crowd was lit up with a smile from start to finish, thanks to a night dedicated to going all in and getting lost to the bass and colourful caucophony happening all around.

Moksi

I arrived at UNIUN to the Netherlands’ duo Moksi on stage; they delivered some solid future house to an already-packed room, to warm everybody up. With that night being their Canadian debut, they put so much energy into their entire set – especially when they got the room bouncing with their remix of Oliver Heldens‘ ‘I Don’t Wanna Go Home‘. As their set progressed, things started taking a turn, following their joint track with Yellow Claw, ‘Open‘; the duo started turning over to some higher-energy, harder-hitting tracks to prepare us for the madness around the corner.

Once Moksi wrapped up, we were all expecting Kayzo to hop on stage, yet the Dark Queen herself, REZZ, showed up instead. As we cheered in half-ecstasy, half-confusion, Kayzo shortly made his REAL appearance, and unleashed a set which caused the crowd to simultaneously headbang and show off their fancy footwork. Meanwhile, he’s going off behind the decks just as much as we were in the crowd. REZZ made a re-appearance about halfway through his set; Kayzo gave her a warm welcome, right before he spewed out her track ‘Purple Gusher‘ – which we all lost our minds to.

As all of this was happening, there was a steady mosh pit that gradually increased in size as the night went on. One of the only pockets of the room where the heatwave partially diffused, you’d have to be willing to get caught in the storm to feel a “fresh” breeze. On the other hand, going outside for some air was a refreshing cool down, thanks to the continuous rain throughout the night. A good number of us were literally steaming as the rain evaporated from our skin.

At around 1am, the crowd felt like it had reached an all-time heat record – we were all drenched in sweat, trying to catch our breath from the insurmountable energy expended during Kayzo’s set. Flux walked onto the stage, and started off with a double-loaded cannon – opening with ‘Cannonball,’ his collab with Snails, before transitioning into his classic tune, ‘Bass Cannon.’

There was one question I couldn’t stop asking myself all night, upon entering the club – when and if he was going to play that one particular song. Sure enough, not even half an hour into his set, he played it – once the crowd heard ‘I Can’t Stop‘, everybody magically caught a second wind. People put their hands so high up in the air; headbangers were swinging and lurching their bodies at full force; the moshers quickly filled the circle and let loose, while tossing their fallen brethren back onto their feet, wasting no time nor energy.

The man, Flux Pavilion

Near the end, before he called it for the night, he grabbed the mic, and asked a simple request. “Before I got to bed and get a good sleep, is it cool if I play one more track?”

We cheered with whatever voices we had left, and to end off the night, he played his remix of DJ Fresh’s ‘Gold Dust’. Those near the active mosh zone started nudging people back, to create the biggest circle of the night. Once the drop hit and all hell broke loose, the fog machines came on full blast. Amidst the haze, I couldn’t help but smile, both to how amazing the night was overall, in conjunction with the added element of surprise, not knowing when/where the next basshead was going to charge at me from.

Flux and the gang continue on their journey, and are currently about halfway through the US segment of the tour, which concludes at Stereo Live in Dallas on June 10th. Who knows where the rest of the world tour will see Flux afterwards – wherever he goes though, there’s bound to be a path of bass-fueled mayhem left in his wake.

Flux Pavilion is back with his label Circus Records with two tracks! ‘Pull the Trigger’/ ‘Cut Me Out’ comes on the heels of an exciting year for Flux. In 2016 he collaborated with NGHTMRE and Snails among other heavy hitters. Fans will have plenty to look forward to on his 2017 Around the World in 80 Raves including this recent double release.

In ‘Pull the Trigger’ Cammie Robinson’s raspy-raw and emotional vocals echo Flux’s daring and dynamic production style. This half of the double release is a demonstration on Flux’s widely appealing sound and style that still keeps true to electronic and bass music’s universals. There are plenty of swelling synths, and filthy percussions that rumble against the sweetness of Robinson’s voice.

On the other side is ‘Cut Me Out’ which is a bolder and slower beat. Collaborating for the second time with Flux since their 2013 ‘Mountains and Molehills’ is UK Indie rock act Turin Brakes. This pair hatched ‘Cut Me Out’ as a fresh, and full of funk type of response to a bad break up. It elicits feelings of a cocky confidence, of taunting some one with your happiness.

Enjoy both tracks down below, and as they wash over you think about checking out the details for Flux’s Around the World in 80 Raves tour at the bottom of this page. He will be sharing the stage with Kayzo, Moski, Spag Heddy Trollphace, Wilkinson, and more to be announced.

If not done correctly bloggers, other artists and most importantly fans are guaranteed to give the remixer a well deserved roasting. For Ekali to flip ‘I Can’t Stop’ took a major leap of faith, one which has payed off. The remix is a complete re-imagination. It blends the infamous vocal loop with a slow burning build that’s underscored by heavy horns. Wonky future bass drops give this a warmer feel that balances well with the colder keys throughout. Is there anything Ekali can’t remix? Stream below and grab the free download.

“They say your attitude determines your latitude
 I’m high as a motherfucker – fly as a motherfucker.
 And still that motherfucker you love to hate
 But can’t – Because you love what I make.”

This quote from Kanye’s verse in Rhymefest’s ‘Brand New’ has always described Kanye West. Considering the press created over the 2015 Grammys, it rings true now more than ever. We hate Kanye for his ignorance, for his rants, and his overall self-centred attitude. But at the same time, we love him for his outspokenness, his creativity, and his divisive music.

Considering the influence that he has had on other musicians, we feel it’s only right to compile our favourite Kanye remixes in one playlist. From trap bangers like Salva and RL Grime’s ‘Mercy’ rework to the Jersey sound of DJ Sliink’s ‘Blood on the Leaves’ to the classic electro sound of Ratatat’s ‘Get Em High,’ we’ve got it all. Check the playlist below.
