Back in February, Getter made his unofficial return to bass music with the wildly unique and downright grungy ‘REPRESENT,’ marking an exciting new chapter in the producer’s artistic journey. Always one to innovate within any realm he chooses to explore, Getter has remained at the forefront of the scene as a result of his uncanny knack for pushing boundaries on every track he releases. And, with the new NAPALM EP, which is his first bass-centric project since the Wat The Frick EP from 2016, Getter demonstrates this ingenuity and creativeness once again.

As a project that was teased by Getter for the last couple of months, expectations were high as fans didn’t know what was coming, but all had high hopes. In short, Getter delivered. In the six-track project, the talented artist cohesively fuses a wide array of his musical influences and past tendencies, from dubstep to hip hop, and from trap to future bass. Few have mastered such a diverse sound palette as well as Getter, and this mastery is on display from start to finish in the NAPALM EP. The project isn’t excessively long or drawn out, as Getter opts for meaningful, penetrating cuts instead of superfluous and unnecessary details. It seems as though Getter purposely tried to create tracks that embody their titles, with parts of ‘BAD ACID’ and ‘CLOROX’ leaving listeners uneasy in an oddly satisfying way. From the unsettling opening to the ethereal closing, every moment is precisely calculated and Getter has not disappointed.

Don’t miss the NAPALM EP below.

As an artist that evolves with each and every release, Yvng Jalapeño never ceases to impress us with his versatility and innate knack for making a track that hits hard. No matter the genre, the talented Aussie executes with ease, often garnering support from the industry’s most established veterans. His first release of 2020 was a trap and bass house fusion alongside Dabow on Jauz’s esteemed Bite This! label, and today Yvng Jalapeño returns with more madness in the form of an edit for Getter’s ‘Head Splitter,’ available for free download.

The original ‘Head Splitter’ is one of Getter’s most memorable tracks, and it’s safe to say that Yvng Jalapeño has done it justice and then some. Despite running for less than two minutes, the edit packs a mean punch, wasting no time getting into the meat of things. The 140 BPM slapper is paralyzing with its complexity and dizzying with its aggressiveness. It’s a mean conglomeration of the various styles that Yvng Jalapeño has proven to master, further attesting to his raw talents. Don’t miss his ‘Head Splitter’ edit below.

A true pioneer in the scene, Getter has always been ahead of the curve with his genre-defying works that can be equally beautiful as brutal. From riddim to future bass and even rap, the LA-based artist has proven time and time again that he is among the elite at innovating.

Despite not releasing a heavy tune in over a year, it seems Getter is ready to return to his roots as his newest single titled ‘Represent’ is ingenious bass music at its finest. Combining a Terror Reid-inspired beat with mind-melting sound design, ‘Represent’ is a fusion of all the styles Getter has skilfully honed over the years. It’s quick to the punch, with repeated stabs of bass layered above insanely crisp percussion sending listeners into a hypnotizing trance. A simple idea executed to perfection, ‘Represent’ is unlike anything we’ve ever heard before. Don’t miss it below.

Getter has made it quite clear over social media these last few months that he is fed up with producing heavy bass music. He told fans that his track with Space Laces was going to be the last heavy release fans would hear in a while, but still promised the innovation and creativity that has brought the legend to where he is today. With a seemingly infinite time span between the Visceral album teaser and its release date, fans have been itching to hear where Getter was heading with his sound.

The emotional ‘Solo’, euphoric ‘All Is Lost’, and minimal yet melodic ‘Made For You (Alone Again)’ gave impatient listeners a taste of what was to come, and the excitement continued to build until now. Today, we can finally listen to one of the most anticipated albums of the year, and boy it does not disappoint. A Visceral thread on Reddit has people commenting their favourite tracks, with no song being mentioned twice in a row, yet every song is mentioned at least once. If this is not a testament to the diversity and quality of the album as a whole, we do not know what is.

You will only be disappointed by Visceral if you go into it expecting the old Getter. It has been made clear that this was not the direction he was going with it, so you’d be a fool to still think otherwise. Even then, some of the tracks such as ‘Numb’ and ‘Hold On Tight’ have that classic Getter “future bass” feel (think ‘Something New’ or ‘Ode 2 Phife’) to them with crisp production found in Terror Reid tunes. Any electronic music fan will appreciate the clean, sophisticated production and raw emotion that every track invokes. The sensations that emerge when listening to ‘On My Way Out’ and ‘Best Of Me’ almost make it seem as if you are feeling Getter’s emotions when he was writing these songs.

Strap in and listen to Visceral from start to finish below; you won’t regret it.

Seattle, Washington based producer SHARPS continually pushes the boundaries of bass music with a refreshing, painfully unique style of trap which blends intricate build-ups with relentless, energy-ridden drops. First making waves on the scene with a remix of Boombox Cartel’s ‘Jefe’, his latest take on Getter’s iconic dubplate ‘Head Splitter’ confirms that this young gun won’t be letting up on the gas anytime soon.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/488160345″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

The nostalgic wonky synth melody from the original leads the remix in a familiar direction, as the coveted pre-drop sample unleashes, the song takes a swift, deep turn. A grungy, crunching synth introduces SHARPS envious knack for eloquently crafted drops with expertly timed breaks and a rotating pattern of crisp synths and reverberating hums.

Further illustrating his ability to take an emblematic tune and weave in his own flare and tastes, SHARPS’ latest remix is further testimony of his unparalleled style of production. I am looking forward to seeing what he has in store for the coming year, and have confidence he will continue to test the expanse of his creative capability with each new release.

2018 has barely begun, and we’re already getting announcements for this year’s round of festivals! In Ontario, the first festival out the door is Kitchener’s Ever After Music Festival.

Taking place June 8th-10th at Bingemans, this year’s lineup has amusement park rides, a waterpark, and a slew of top-notch artists sure to unite bassheads and festivalgoers across the GTA (and beyond). All things combined, it’s set to be an entire weekend of music, fun, as well as potential neckbraces the following Monday.

Last year was well known for its back-to-back-to-back set, which featured Cookie Monsta, 12th Planet, and Funtcase. The good news is that such an experience will be making a return this year – what’s more is that this year will feature an additional 7 back-to-back sets on top of that:
–Flux Pavilion & Doctor P;
–Midnight T & Megalodon;
–Excision & Datsik (Sunday’s headliners);
-and Zomboy & Skism, to name a few.

Pure dubstep/Riddim aside, there’s also going to be features such as Hydee for some solid dnb action, Space Jesus & Liquid Stranger bringing some glorious space music, and Sullivan King, who knows the intricacies of the guitar like the back of his hand.

Those who are more into the house side of electronic music will be pleased to hear that Saturday will feature some of the best in the genre! Claude VonStroke will be headlining on Saturday, along with a wide variety of variations of house. From French bass house sensation Dombresky, to the return of Daniel Portman, whose groovy set was much-talked about after last year’s festivities, to AC Slater bringing his Night Bass vibe to the grounds, there’s an entire afternoon of shuffling and g-stepping for those itching to do so.

There’s also a petition going around to help justify sound levels & curfew for the festival, which have proposed changes after last year caused a surge in noise complaints on the final evening. Considering how much energy everybody put into the Sunday closers, Zeds Dead, it’s not all too surprising, though – yet one can only hope that the residents and festivalgoers can come to an acceptable agreement.

Returning after once again dominating the bass music game with a huge tour and killing it at global festivals, the Canadian somehow found time to put together this massive collection of tracks and remixes of his last album, Virus. As expected it’s a bass fest – unrelenting, loud and in your face; check for the pounding womp of Barely Alive’s ‘Harambe’ remix for proof.

There’s so much on here (18 tracks to be precise,) it’s hard to cover it all – but just know it’s uncompromisingly great and you need it. You can stream it from below, and full release comes on September 12th.

Over the course of the past few years OWSLA has risen to become one of the most powerful and important labels in electronic music. To kick off 2016 with a bang, the label has unleashed a massive compilation. The mass of talent and diversity on this project is insane. Skrillex drops 3 tracks, Ghastly & Getter team up, josh pan & X&G blow our minds and Dj Sliink & Nadus prove Jersey club is alive and well. The most surprising standout for me has to be Louis The Child’s ‘From Here’. The emotion and originality is nothing short of incredible. The project also features new music from Mija, Wiwek, San Holo x Yellow Claw, Bixel Boys, Alvin Risk + more! If you haven’t grasped it yet, this is a must listen. Stream below and grab the project on iTunes.
