Today, Gladez returns to the coveted Never Say Die for the release of his Boss Level EP, a project further demonstrating his dominant sound while also showcasing impressive versatility from the artist. Two of the three tracks from the Boss Level EP, namely ‘Abyss’ and ‘Rubber Band Money,’ are quintessential Gladez. Primed for monstrous speakers, the introductions are looming and create a sense of uneasy urgency within listeners, before the drops hit you like a blunt object across the skull. With no shortage of pounding basses, the opening two tracks of the project will surely provide your fix of insanity for the week. Rounding out the EP with a pleasant twist, ‘Let You Go’ drives a more melodic effort, featuring the usual crisp sound design from Gladez yet providing a refreshing, almost danceable take on trap.

In Japanese ‘Akuto’ means “thief or scoundrel that commits violent or aggressive acts.” Man, could this be any closer to the truth. Gladez’s ‘Akuto’ is a nonstop thrill-ride from start to finish. The cocky pre-drop vocal of “you can never win” pronounces a fierce stance of unrelenting violence, your doom assuredly on the menu for tonight. The first drop is vicious, exploding outwards at you like a ticking time bomb counting down the seconds til it blows you away. The piece exclaims “we’ve had enough of this nonsense” right before delivering its killing blow, a massive switch-up to a more trap-oriented arrangement that will have you stomping the ground with sheer delight. Traveling into the depths of the rainforest, ‘Favela’ opens up with eerily intriguing atmospheres, bringing us into the heart of the jungle. Ritualistic chants hit us around the 40 second mark, preparing us for the culture shocking drop we didn’t know we needed. Huge sub basses layered with unearthly sound design, tribalistic drums, and refreshing rhythms bring us to a place most have never dared to go. Nearly one and a half minutes in, GLADEZ carries us back down from heaven to remind us that we aren’t even close to done yet. Building us up yet again with those bone-chilling chants, GLADEZ drops us back into the fire with a few refreshing twists and turns as far as sound design and rhythm go. ‘Shinobi’ is GLADEZ’s latest release on Never Say Die, and it fits right in as it features two bone-shaking drops that showcase the growth of his sound. To say that his production has gotten to unprecedented levels of clean is an understatement, with this song having an initial dense, low, growl-like sound on the drop which is quickly followed by a contrasting quick punchy section that feels like Mike Tyson backhanding you repeatedly. The last drop of this track will leave you finger gunning so hard the US military will question you as a weapon of mass destruction.

At the forefront of this movement, Las Vegas-born GLADEZ has distinguished himself over the course of the past year with a sound that ingeniously fringes on the heavier end of the trap realm and the current wave for avant-garde bass. With tracks like ‘Pretty Boy Floyd’ and ‘Pull Up’ released just over a year ago, GLADEZ has demonstrated an uncanny ability to combine riveting, metallic synths with staggering bass and engulfing subs even in the earliest stages of his career.

More recently, GLADEZ’s production has only continued to progress, adopting a more experimental approach in tracks such as ‘Hardwired’ or ‘Black Friday’, the young talent continues to push the boundaries of his creativity while preserving the gripping bass and incisive percussion that fans have grown fond of.

It is apparent that 2019 will reveal more talents and surprises for the Nevada-native as he releases his debut solo release with Never Say Die Records titled ‘Nightrider’. A retro 80s synth introduction gives rise to a commanding drum pattern that presents a perplexing opening for a GLADEZ track. As the pace of the snares quicken, an echoing vocal loop builds rapid momentum catapulting into a reverberating mechanical synth, which reverberates uncontrollably between pounding bass hits and meticulous breakdowns.

With a remarkable year in the rearview and a resounding start to 2019 joining the ranks of Never Say Die, we cannot wait to hear what’s next up next for the talented young producer. You know the feeling where it seems everyone you follow is suddenly reposting that one artist? Last month that artist was Gladez. It started with ‘Mile High Club’ but happened again with his ‘Olé’ remix. While the former caught my attention, it was the latter that put me on notice. Flipping a track that massive is no easy feat but Gladez’s remix of ‘Olé’ not only did the original justice but took it to new heights. If aggressive, wall-shaking bass music is your shit, Gladez is your guy.

MEMBA

My introduction to NYC duo MEMBA came with their most recent release ‘Middle Man‘ and while I was blown away, I only became further flummoxed by their slew of head spinning sounds. They say their production style sees “world-influenced exploration of rhythm,” but I’m not sure what world they’re referring to, because even in this golden age of electronic music, I’ve never heard anything tweaked quite this way. The vocals from Asher Don in the aforementioned track are excellent, but it’s not a one off for MEMBA, who are undeniably adept at building beds for ballads and bops alike. Explore their awesome range in curated playlists of their own productions ‘Dutty‘ and ‘Calm.’

nine plus

I first came upon nine plus with his phuture collective release ‘Into The Sun’. The pairing of stunning and intoxicating vocals with an aggressive and massive trap energy was spellbinding. In the span of a month he’s since released two more exceptional tracks that not only highlight his talents but also his versatility. ‘This Way?’ draws inspiration from Sam Gellaitry without feeling too similar. It’s groovy and uplifting with just the right amount of bounce. ‘End Game‘ finds itself between the two. A deep space slapper with just a touch of upbeat undertones. With just over a thousand followers on SoundCloud, it’s still early days for the producer, but we expect those numbers to explode in the near future.

Every so often you hear a song that completely mesmerizes you; where music shifts from the background of what ever it is you’re doing and becomes the only thing that exists for a short period. This is what happened the first time I heard samsin. ‘Spectrum’ entered my ears and invited my mind into another world. Cinematic, entrancing and foreign yet familiar. It was like taking a trip to an exotic locale that also instantly felt like home. There’s a thread of magic that runs through Samsin’s music; an intangible energy and beauty that you just feel. It’s not often you come across an artist that 1) is capable of producing quality chill funk and aggressive bass cuts and 2) finds it unnecessary to divide those sounds into two distinct projects or monikers, but that’s the case with underscores. You never quite know what you’re going to get from him, whether it be the most metallic and mean bass bangers like ‘the city with no wind‘ or fun funky and groove of ‘twisted lines‘, there’s always the underlying quality of underscores. There’s dozens of options to illustrate his musical majesty, but let us offer these two awe-inspiring, enigmatic instances: ‘pause’ and ‘the niche market,’ a mashup of 84 (EIGHTY FOUR!) sounds and tracks, video below.
