In her artist biography, Huxley Anne describes herself as a, “clairvoyant k-pop miscreant, or a liquid wax aboriginal broomstick riding free base electric sorceress, or a nu-disko art porn nymphet depending on my mood.” With the release of her latest EP Figs we take a deep dive into the multi-faceted sides of all of those moods and more with this incredible journey through a multitude of dark and otherworldly, bass heavy soundscapes.

Figs is Huxley’s first solo release since her 2017 album Ilium, and certainly feels like a progression into deeper, heavier waters. The first track ‘Fury’ sets the stage with a dark, spectral, bitcrushed space of heavy kicks and hauntingly immersive vocals that echo fondly of her previous works. ‘Sham’ is by far, the heaviest track on Figs. Boasting the crunchiest of basslines amidst marvelously ethereal synth work & screwed hip hop vocals, this one is whats known in the industry as “a heater.”

The third track, ‘Boy, No’ features beautifully smooth vocals from the London based, Hezen, and was released as a single preceding the release of the EP. This soulfully heavy and trapped out R&B jam is a song of empowerment and self love that flows like dark, melted chocolate filled with stars. Definitely one of my favorites.
Finally, with ‘Agarwood,’ we emerge into a comforting trip hop inspired space of woodwinds, harps, guitars, synths, horns, and classic drum loops in what genuinely feels like a relaxing stroll through the faerie wood as we close the book on our journey.

A journey that fans new and old will definitely be coming back to enjoy time and time again. Swoop it today and open that mind up.

“All I ask is that you remember…in the void of the uncanny valley, we have an opportunity to reclaim our own nature.” – Huxley Anne
