Our man Hydraulix is back again this week for our next guest mix installment! After dropping his NERVES EP on Wakaan earlier this year, the versatile Australian producer has been riding a wave of successful self-releases, including our previously-featured ‘duCk huNT‘ and the speaker-wrecking banger ‘HAWT‘ with Oski. Most recently, his track ‘I Spit Da Fire‘ was released on We Are Deadbeats Vol. 6.

Given his output since the year began, I’m not sure when the man sleeps, but whatever beauty sleep he manages is clearly paying off. We can’t wait to hear what the rest of year brings from this wicked talented producer, so until then, let’s get into the guest mix and hear what he has to say!

First off, it’s good to have you in the spotlight here at FUXWITHIT again! How has your year been going thus far?

Thanks for having me back. Always love catching up with you guys. So far so good. I’ve been doing a lot of self-releases which I’ve been loving very freeing the whole process.

What should our listeners expect to hear in this guest mix?

Lots of unreleased. I’ve got it stacked with unreleased from myself and a bunch of friends. And defs expect to hear a lot of deeper type tunes. I feel like the mix is a good indication of the direction I’m trying to head moving forward.

I’d say you’re one of many artists we touch on here who really can’t be pigeon-holed into a single genre given the variety of your discography. That said, who are your biggest musical influences?

I’m really so all over the place with where I get my inspiration from. Few people who always get me excited and eager to hear new music are Flume, Labrinth, Skrillex, TroyBoi, and Billie Eilish funnily enough.

Your most recent single with Oski, ‘HAWT,’ seems to have been a big hit now that it’s been played out by the likes of Four Tet, Excision, Zeds Dead, Liquid Stranger, etc. How does it feel to have such a stellar response to your track?

Thanks so much for the kind words. We are both stoked with the response to ‘HAWT.’ It’s obviously super rewarding to have people you look up to appreciate your music. I fully self-released ‘HAWT’ and to get arguably a bigger response than most tunes is super fulfilling.

Is it safe to say a full Hydroski EP is indeed happening?

It’s happening. We’ve got all the tracks there it’s just getting it all finished up. We’ve both been pretty busy recently, I just moved state and Oski has been working his ass off and hasn’t really had time to sit down. But it’s all there and well underway. The first track in the mix is actually one of the new tunes.

At the moment I’m just trying to write the best music I can and make it all cohesive together. I feel like I’m finally setting up and bringing people into the Hydraulix world and I’m super excited about what that will bring.

What’s next for you as a producer? Any big dreams you can share with us?

Man honestly at the moment I’m just trying to write the best music I can and make it all cohesive together. I feel like I’m finally setting up and bringing people into the Hydraulix world and I’m super excited about what that will bring.

If you had the opportunity to perform anywhere in the world for one night, where would it be?

I’ve got so many bucket list venues I’d love to play. Red Rocks is one for sure. But some other spots include Brooklyn Mirage, Palladium, and would die if I ever played EDC Vegas.

Anything particular remaining in 2024 that you’re super excited for?

I’ve actually just been wrapping a track with Tempa T that I’m super excited for and have a whole bunch of collabs with people I really I look up to. I don’t know if it’ll all come out in 2024 but some of the new music is gonna do some damage!

When you’re not making music, where does your free time go?

I’m such a homebody. I really don’t do much that exciting. I spend a lot of my free time watching NRL (Rugby league) and playing fantasy NRL with friends and usually taking my dog for walks and to the beach. I also love sewing and making clothes. I haven’t been doing that enough recently but now that I’m set up in my new spot I’m definitely gonna get back into it.

I think the biggest thing is consistency and perseverance. Sometimes it feels like your music falls on deaf ears but it’s important to just keep going. You never know what will hit and what won’t. But don’t get discouraged when stuff doesn’t.

Do you have any words of encouragement for aspiring producers out there?

I’m a big supporter of up-and-comers. It feels like some of the new people coming through are crazy talented. I think the biggest thing is consistency and perseverance. Sometimes it feels like your music falls on deaf ears but it’s important to just keep going. You never know what will hit and what won’t. But don’t get discouraged when stuff doesn’t. Also… Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s a slippery slope.

Bonus question: How does Australia put out so much good music? Seriously.

Hahaha, I wish I had the answer for this. We really do pump them out over here. I’m just grateful to be part of the community here in Aus. I find it’s a very supportive and nurturing group of producers from Aus.

Hydraulix is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to his 2024 releases. Hot on the heels of his NERVES EP released in February on Wakaan (which you can read about here), he’s back at it again, this time with a wild left-field single in ‘duCk huNT.’ Against the backdrop of NERVES, ‘duCk huNT’ almost sounds like it’s from a different producer entirely. This track would feel right at home in a space bass playlist as opposed to the heavier, clashier style of NERVES, which should give you an idea of this producer’s incredible versatility.

From the undulating sub-bass to the wonky, wobbly duck-themed drop, everything about this track screams “stank face.” I can’t tell if the drop is a morphed sample from the original Duck Hunt video game… but I sure hope it is, as it would fit right in with the “Hey, listen!” vocal sample from The Legend of Zelda that also accompanies it. Despite how off-puttingly weird this track might be to some listeners, I think this is a perfect example what can come of a producer in the studio making something silly. I can only imagine that the crowd reactions from ‘duCk huNT’ when Hydraulix plays this out live are sure to be a gold mine for his social media pages.

Per Hydraulix himself, ‘duCk huNT’ is only the first from a string of self-releases to be expected in the near future. If they all manage to capture the energy of this track, I think we’re in for a good time. Until then, be sure to stream ‘duCk huNT’ below.

Hailing from the land down under, Sydney-based Hydraulix has had an extraordinary past year. As a well-established member of the Wakaan roster, with additional releases featured on Quality Goods Records, Disciple, and TWONK, the producer has been grinding away in the studio with plenty to show for it. On top of studio time, Hydraulix has had the opportunity to tour across the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Australia, and elsewhere over the last 12 months, garnering an abundance of new fans along the way.

The three-track NERVES EP is the latest addition to Hydraulix’s discography. A brilliant foray into dubstep, grime, and drum and bass, the EP makes a point of switching up genres with each track, never pigeonholing itself into any single one. ‘ANXIOUS,’ featuring the gritty vocals of Maksim MC, is a true dubstep banger with UK grime elements as the cherry on top. ‘Click Clack’ with Nika D carries much the same vibe at first before erupting into a tribal trap-esque drop that may remind listeners of producers along the lines of MEMBA or XAVAGE. ‘All Eyes’ wraps up the EP with a sudden but not unwelcome tempo change to drum and bass. With its suspenseful build-up to an electrifying first drop, this track cements itself as an absolute roller that is sure to have jump-up fans losing it on the dance floor.

“So excited to be dropping the Nerves EP with Wakaan. I called the EP Nerves because it’s something I constantly feel when releasing music. Always nervous about how it will be received, will it get playlisting, have I pushed myself enough, have I pushed it too far. Writing music is the most rewarding and disheartening thing at the same time. Constant nerves on the edge. But at the end of the day you just gotta write what’s true to you. I’ve always loved all forms of bass music and this EP I wanted to show a bit of that with Dubstep, DnB and even some trap to cap it off.” – Hydraulix

Hydraulix’s well-deserved career continues to prosper with the release of the NERVES EP. Stream it in full below and be sure to check out the Bandcamp version for a bonus instrumental of ‘Click Clack.’

Nonetheless, in his r/trap AMA yesterday, he said, “happy to be back, I missed it all! can’t wait for you to hear the new shit I have planned for the year!” We couldn’t be more stoked to enter a new age of Rickyxsan, and with that, we welcome Sonic Trip, the artist’s new label.

Sonic Trip’s first release, ‘ZONED,’ sees the LA-based artist jump into 2022 with further proof of the pristine workflow that he shares with Hydraulix. With the latter artist coming off his monumental Imposter Syndrome LP, there is no better way to return to singles than with his trustee friend. ‘ZONED’ is sinister in its opening and filled with futuristic effects that hint at the madness that follows. A quick transition leads listeners to the quintessential bass contortions that are omnipresent in both producers’ signatures, again fusing elements from different genres to create a mind-melting concoction. Equally quirky as it is heavy, ‘ZONED’ demonstrates that Rickyxsan has not lost his touch, and that Hydraulix is a consistent force in the bass scene. Don’t miss it below.

What happens when one of the best producers in bass music connects with a grime legend? You’re about to find out. Ahead of the release of Hydraulix’s Imposter Syndrome album tomorrow we have the pleasure of premiering Hydraulix & P Money’s monster collaboration ‘GOAT.’

Dominant forces in their respective worlds, Hydraulix and P Money prove to be the perfect pair. Icy keys set the stage as P Money’s commanding vocals take the lead over the gritty beat. The raps are hard and riddled with swagger with lines like, “Test me and end up smoked, nothin’ funny about me I ain’t got jokes, overcame fights I came off the ropes, my heart is more pure than cane of the boats.” Hydraulix expertly strips the beat back to punctuate the bars before bringing in an absolutely devastating drop. Cavernous bass, out-of-this-world sound design, and some menacing trap grunts combine to blow listener’s minds. The verse is repeated adding to intensity before Hydraulix comes back with some more nasty wook bass. The chemistry and rawness displayed on ‘GOAT’ makes it one of Hydraulix best releases yet and a clear standout on his upcoming album.

P Money has been a favourite of mine for such a long time and when the opportunity came up to work with him the album I knew that I wanted to write him something I felt like he hadn’t done before: a more American-style rap intro with a crazy wook bass type drop. This one all came together super quickly and I knew it was gonna be something special and different for the album.
-Hydraulix

Stream ‘GOAT’ below and look out for Imposter Syndrome dropping on Wakaan tomorrow.

Hydraulix is the animated alias of Australian producer Damien Williams. Nearing in on a decade of persistent releases, the skilled artist has announced the release of his debut album Imposter Syndrome coming later this year. In preparation of the project, Hydraulix has enlisted Latin Grammy award winner Nitti Gritti to release the lead single ‘Waratah.’ The track abducts the style from each artist and intertwines it in a way that should have already existed. The track is available now across all streaming platforms via WAKAAN.

‘Waratah’ opens with a sense of security while it sounds like children are playing. Their laughter is heard in the distance before a soft rustle of synths cut into a deep siren. The energy shifts rapidly as the drop offers sharp metallic swings and unmatched sound design that reflects the technique of both producers. Running further into the heart of the track the metal shrills demand attention as the melody bounces between every opening. An onslaught of forward-thinking trap becomes ever-present as the percussion pierces through the forefront. With ‘Waratah’ being the first single off of Imposter Syndrome, the standards have been set in an extreme fashion leaving us eager to hear the complete project. Stream ‘Waratah’ below available now via WAKAAN.

Sydney, Australia’s Hydraulix has been a longstanding champion of progressive sound design, boasting an impressive repertoire of diverse works. Evolving from his early days of the traditional trap aesthetic, he’s found a welcome home in the Wakaan family, releasing his latest single with WifiIsFuneral, a massively popular collab with Ookay, a collaboration with the head extraterrestrial Liquid Stranger, and his wildly successful Space Cadet EP through their far-out imprint in the last 12 months alone. Now he’s finally ready to release a plethora of IDs in the form of the Bruxism EP, and we’ve had the great pleasure of premiering ‘Jewelz’ from it right here on FUXWITHIT.

‘Jewelz’ is only the latest in a long line of immaculately crafted releases with major attention to detail on unique sound design and debilitating bass lines. Utilizing that patented Hydraulix trademarked sound that rests right on the line of trap and more experimental flavors of production, ‘Jewelz’ slams ever so nicely from whatever speaker is blasting its sound-waves. “Bruxism” is excessive teeth grinding or clenching, and boy that’s all you’ll be doing as you aggressively thrust your body into all sorts of wild contortions while getting down to this track. Robust, thick, and delightfully dancy, this wonderfully talented Aussie artist has once again shown that he’s playing no games and taking no prisoners. Check out ‘Jewelz’ and the rest of the Bruxism EP for yourself below!

Two of the longest-running taste-makers in the trap game, Ookay and Hydraulix, have had a consistent knack for making diverse, approachable productions that garner massive praise from a wide audience. Ookay’s ‘Thief‘, released 4 years ago, has accrued over 86 million collective streams between SoundCloud and Spotify, and is arguably one of the most timeless bangers of the past decade. Hydraulix has always kept his fans guessing with what he’s going to release next genre-wise, and he continues this trend with his latest release with Ookay, titled ‘Poor Connection’ out on Wakaan.

Landing on the heavier side of the production scale, ‘Poor Connection’ is a massive genre-defying banger that settles down on the line between hybrid trap and dubstep. Using the old AOL start up error signal as a looped sample creates a nostalgic attitude, while simultaneously lulling you into a sense of security before you’re obliterated by futuristic bass lines. Don’t be fooled though, the only thing that will have poor connection is your consciousness to your body as you’re fiercely taken hold by the vibrations. Left and right panning is used much to your ears’ delight, creating a full-on listening experience in your headphones. The sound design is superb, with many different samples used within to keep you on your toes. The final drop is even trappier, creating this gritty, slowed beat that you can’t help getting low to. To be honest, this collaboration was a complete surprise, but a pleasant one nonetheless. Check out ‘Poor Connection’ below, and grab the free download here!

Authentic, fervent, genius, and family oriented; these are all words that accurately describe Martin Staaf, better known by his artist persona Liquid Stranger. When one contemplates which members of the bass music underground are pushing the sound and ethos at the very heart-pulse of the community, Mr. Staaf surely sits atop that list. Curating arguably one of the most impressive labels in the entire game right now, the illustrious and idiosyncratic Wakaan, Staaf leads the charge in propelling only the most experimental of sounds to the eagerly-awaiting ears of all his die-hard fans. His 30 track LP, Infinity, was released last year to raucous applause, showcasing each distinct type of sound this miraculous human being is capable of forging. He has once again graced the music realms with another unparalleled release, coming in the form of the 6 track Ascension EP, a perfect Valentine’s Day gift to the masses.

A psychonaut is defined as “a person who spends time exploring the universe right inside their own head. Usually with drugs, yoga, or meditation. This person is on a quest to discover the self, and usually can be considered a realist.” Liquid Stranger’s ‘Psychonaut’ is the perfect introduction into Ascension, setting the tone for the sonic voyage your consciousness is about to undergo. The beat builds into into a zipper-like monstrosity of a sound, almost like the unraveling of the mind that a certified psychonaut would experience at the beginning of a psychedelic experience, before reaching the brink of insanity that is the first drop. The opening notes are reminiscent of what one might expect to burst forth from an organ in the holy church of grime, both startlingly and exquisite at the same time. The tell-tale immaculate cleanliness that is Liquid’s production is readily apparent, and is even more-so highlighted later in the song when the initial fiercely intense energy cools and is replaced with a much swampier aesthetic, with more emphasis on each individual sound. The song ends with a speech that sounds straight out of a sci-fi movie stating “As the space time continuum shatters, the laws of physics no longer apply. While the body can be protected by a suit, the mind is left open and vulnerable. Only certain specially gifted individuals are able to complete the journey with their sanity unscathed. We call them, the Psychonauts.” Strap in, this is only the first of 6 tracks.

‘Ascend’ continues your journey upwards, a step towards the euphoria and elation phase of self discovery. The opening melody is goosebumps-inducing, creating a beautiful, warm electricity around the perimeter of your body. You’re greeted by immensely soothing, calming vocals, before continuing back on your bass-filled adventure. The energy takes a sharp turn, and Staaf’s signature wonky creativity is once again thrusted to the forefront. The string instrumental section that drifts you away to the end of the piece is exceptionally beautiful, creating an introspective aura that makes time slip by just a tad bit slower. The melodies of ‘Ascend’ are lush, rich, and perfect accents for the entire rest of the song. Prepare yourself for a true bass music symphony experience.

For as long as Liquid Stranger and Luzcid have been flying together under the Wakaan flag, it’s almost shocking to realize that they didn’t have a collaboration up to this point. Meet ‘Hammer,’ the answer to all that have been asking for it. The vocals “crank up the power” lead you up to the first drop, your excitement reaching peak levels. Staying true to its name, ‘Hammer’ hits borderline-unhealthily hard. A veritable sonic weapon, the low-end rumbles the earth between your feet. This piece strikes with such ferocity it could easily be mistaken for Thor’s trademark accessory, a mighty tool only to be wielded by the absolutely worthy. If the first drop wasn’t enough, the 2nd is even more primal in nature, featuring tight switches and a beat that touches down on the trappier side of dubstep, a definite blast to get buck-wild to.

For years, Australia’s Hydraulix has been a consistent player in the underground and a sure force to be reckoned with, and his collaboration on Ascension ‘Laser Burn’ continues this trend of successful frequency manipulation. Wasting no time getting into the thick of things, the hip-gyrating beat is hand-delivered almost from the opening seconds of the song. The sound calls to mind a much cleaner and amplified version of coins you left in your pants’ pocket hitting the inside of a dryer, and if you weren’t already aware, it slaps. An instant banger, the first drop is full of sound-wave sass, bursting with so much character it practically hops out of your headphones. The laser samples sound like something straight out of Star Wars, leaving you half expecting a Chewbacca, R2D2, or baby Yoda to be neatly tucked in along the way. This track is a joy to bust a move to, and will bring out only the happiest of expressions.

Sami Diament, formerly known as the lord of all things twonk, Brillz, continues one of the most successful artist rebrands that has occurred in the community with his rebirth in the form of LSDREAM, now pooling his enlightening efforts with Liquid to gift us ‘Sunken Technology.’ The combination of these two artists’ styles is a true treat on the ears, bursting with vibrations that mentally stimulate the listener to sheer delight. It almost seems as if the ‘Sunken Technology’ that’s mysteriously muttered about is a machine that promotes healthy mindsets in humans, unconsciously erecting a pleasant grin on every willing participant. The bass lines push the “experimental” in experimental bass to the forefront, somehow bringing about unity from what would separately be chaos. The 2nd half of the song feels like an underwater journey in a submarine, taking in all the odd shapes that roam the depths of our world. Just as the sub navigates the bottoms of the sea, this piece floats freely among the other inhabitants of the underground bass community, a bright beacon of nonconformity and an emphasis on individuality and free expression.

‘Over n Out’ caps off Ascension, a goodbye kiss placed gently on the ears, rather than the mouth of a lover. A soft parting, and a reminder that this is only a “see ya later,” you’ll be left thankful that Martin Staaf exists in the same time that you do. One can easily get mesmerized by the atmosphere created, lost in space and time as your mind drifts free of your bodily restraints, held down no longer by the weight of the world and the anxiety that can accompany daily life.

Liquid Stranger is a champion of the people, and a man looked up to by many of the brightest young minds in the industry. This is all without mentioning how absolutely incredible of a musician he is on his own, crafting only what truly resonates with him down to his core. He is a prime example of where hard work can get you, and a shining beacon of defiance against the norm. Ascension is masterfully put together, weaving a complex tale of growth and maturity, something that anyone can relate to. The emphasis on consciousness expansion and working towards your goals proves that he’s truly using his platform for good, only aiming to bring out the absolute best in his rabid fans. The love in the air is thick whenever any of these tracks are rinsed, as that was the original intention when Staaf was pulling them from his own mind. With as much growth as he’s had in the past few years, along with his first ever Wakaan Festival being a smash-hit, this man can steer his intergalactic spaceship in any direction he sees fit, just know that the final destination will be extra extra groovy. Looking to cap it off as tenaciously as he started it, the Sydney-based mastermind returns to Wakaan today with ‘Spanner.’

Highly teased on social media before today’s release, ‘Spanner’ sees Hydraulix flex further production prowess with a versatile arrangement of familiar sounds. With many artists wishing drum and bass would make its way to the mainstream in North America, Hydraulix looks to jump ahead of the curve with a jump up anthem that has an experimental twist. Both energetic and intense, the talented producer uses sounds familiar to the genre while pairing them with his own flair of gritty goodness, making ‘Spanner’ a certified bop.
