When reviewing ‘It’s Our Destiny‘ back in March, we mentioned that ranking IMANU among the elite in the electronic music scene was a biased opinion. With the ongoing unveiling of his debut album UNFOLD, there is a continued dwindling to the subjectivity of that statement. No matter the genre, IMANU executes at a level that most will never attain in a lifetime, and the artist is slowly revealing what it shaping up to be one of the most impressive albums of the year.

While originally known for his quality take on drum and bass, many have been anxiously awaiting a return to that style as the first four singles of UNFOLD have ranged from house to future bass. Today, though, IMANU returns to Deadbeats with ‘Empress’ for the fifth and final single of his upcoming album, and those that have been wanting something on the heavier side are sure to get their fix. Featuring additional production from Quiet Bison which makes itself heard throughout, ‘Empress’ builds gradually to induce a sense of curiosity in listeners, before IMANU totally flips the script and unleashes his production mastery. From an odd time signature, to mind-melting bass and percussion patterns, ‘Empress’ is the product of a meticulous attention to detail and a natural ability to innovate. In typical IMANU fashion, it’s chaotic yet crisp, and we can’t wait to hear UNFOLD in full on September 16th.

Don’t miss ‘Empress’ below.

The unveiling of IMANU‘s debut album is in full swing. Announced with the release of the incredible third single ‘Temper‘ which followed ‘It’s Our Destiny‘ and ‘Somehow We Lost It All,’ UNFOLD marks a new chapter in the artist’s musical journey. Despite coming onto the scene as a drum and bass artist and retaining that sound in some of his more recent works, IMANU has grown into a multi-talented producer, and he is finally getting the recognition he deserves across the electronic music scene. From obtaining his US Visa to making his way across the States and Europe this summer, IMANU is slowly taking the world by force, and he’s doing so with a sound that, along with his harder works, blurs the lines between future bass, house, and pop.

The latest contribution to UNFOLD comes via Deadbeats in the form of a surprise collaboration with What So Not and vocalist Wingtip. It’s a surprise in two ways, both because there were no hints of such a massive collaboration in the works, and because of the final product. There is no question that both producers are able to create festival-ready bangers, but ‘Pillow Talk’ is not that. Instead, the artists have decided to concoct a mellow, vocal-driven ballad that beautifully highlights Wingtip’s voice while creating a crisp soundscape to complement. ‘Pillow Talk’ has the distinct IMANU house sound that he has perfected over the last couple of years, with What So Not and Wingtip lending a welcome hand in their respective ways. The track shows yet another facet of the creatives that were involved, and continue to set the stage for what is shaping to be one of the most impressive album releases of 2022. Don’t miss ‘Pillow Talk’ below.

This is certainly a biased opinion, but IMANU is currently among the elite in the electronic scene with respect to production skills, versatility, and originality. The Rotterdam-based artist has been a part of my favourite songs released so far this year, namely ‘Neiges/La Fournaise‘ alongside The Caracal Project and josh pan, and ‘Kotaro‘ with Jon Casey. A common theme with new IMANU music is that one never really knows what they are going to get in terms of genre, but one always knows they are going to get a quality piece. Staying true to this with his latest, IMANU returns to Deadbeats today with an enthralling track titled ‘It’s Our Destiny’ featuring powerful vocals from KUČKA.

There’s something special about KUČKA’s voice that instantly elevates the appeal of a future bass track. A year after the instrumental appeared in his Secret Sky mix with Buunshin, ‘It’s Our Destiny’ has arrived laced with captivating vocals and lush textures. Despite its brevity, the track encapsulates a wide range of emotions and different levels of energy during its runtime, swaying between vocal-driven sections and production-heavy cuts. As one would expect, the technicalities behind the track are next level, with IMANU showcasing a varied sound palette as the piece progresses. ‘It’s Our Destiny’ is a quintessential future bass ballad executed to perfection. Don’t miss it below.

Following the initiative of Vlad Yaremchuk and Rhys Bainham, two promoters based in Ukraine, the bass and drum&bass community have come together to show unity, solidarity, support, and a common response to the current, dramatic situation in the country. Responding to the call to participate in Together With Ukraine were more than one hundred international artists, who contributed with exclusive unreleased music to what has become the biggest compilation I’ve ever seen. Together With Ukraine is available to purchase on Bandcamp for a minimum price of £12 and all the revenue generated will be donated directly to the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.

In the tracklist, drum&bass is predominant, but among the 136 tracks there is a varied representation of the wide spectrum of bass music (there’s even a touch of wave courtesy of Deadcrow). There is no shortage of well-known FUXWITHIT favorites such as Noisia, Dj Ride, Rohaan, gyrofield, IMANU, yunis, and some personal favorites of the undersigned like Balatron, latesleeper, Monrroe, Bop, and basically all the Hospital Record affiliated artists.

Sadly, this time the music is not the focus of the discussion, but only a means to convey a much more important message in support of Ukraine. For this reason, we leave room for those who are experiencing the situation and experiencing its effects firsthand. Below you can find the official statement published by the organizers.

With every day that passes, the high-scale humanitarian crisis and assault on the people of Ukraine continues to worsen. Civilian deaths are increasing on a daily basis across the country with no sign of stopping, with millions of citizens already forced out of their homes in search of refuge. As we wake up to yet another day of war, hundreds more innocent lives have been lost and destroyed overnight. We cannot leave this unchecked, and we need to act on this now without hesitation. Now more than ever is a time for unity, solidarity and support of a nation under attack. It’s crucial for us to use our voice to create widespread and sustained awareness of the situation on the ground in Ukraine, and to give support in every way possible. Whether it’s signing petitions, attending demonstrations, sharing facts on social media, offering help for refugees, or more – this situation cannot be allowed to continue, and engaging in support of any kind for the people of Ukraine is our absolute priority.

You can listen and purchase Together With Ukrain on Bandcamp here (the donations received so far amount to over £54,000). Alongside the exclusive tracks, there’re also over 30 pieces of bespoke visual art, with art direction by Uno.

IMANU and Jon Casey are among bass music’s most exciting acts to follow. Innovators in their own right as they refuse to conform to genres or expectations, the individuals have carved unique lanes in the scene through pushing creativity and novelty at a rate that many only dream of achieving. While both artists have crafted a distinct sound that often falls within a specific genre, their true mastery shines when they go beyond stylistic boundaries, and this is especially true when collaborating with others. Now, for the first time, the two have linked up to concoct a mind-melting monster of a tune titled ‘Kotaro’ via the coveted Sable Valley, and once again exemplify this ingenious mindset.

The fast-paced tune is not for the faint of heart, boasting a hypnotizing aura that persists for the entirety of the track. From the get go, the crisp percussion and repeated vocals lure listeners in with its intriguing yet sinister soundscape. As further layers are added, the menacing ambience only continues to grow, with a sample resonating “I love it when they try to get get get..” lending an uneasy, ominous hand to the already chilling piece. Despite its chaos, ‘Kotaro’ is beautifully put together, with IMANU and Jon Casey combining their styles to forge a track that induces goosebumps, but that one can not get enough of. The innovation never ceases either, with the artists opting out of the cookie-cutter formula (as they usually do) to deliver an even more thrilling second half. Simply put, ‘Kotaro’ is a wild beast, and a personal favourite of 2022 so far. Don’t miss it below.

Their collaboration with Leotrix titled ‘Gaspin 4 Air‘ that was released in November gave listeners a hint of their irrefutable chemistry, and now the pair of artists reunite for a dual single via Critical Music that sets the bar high for 2022.

‘Neiges / La Fournaise’ sees IMANU and The Caracal Project shine in a familiar light while simultaneously demonstrating their ability to push sonic boundaries. Regarding the song titles and theme behind the release, The Caracal Project states, “‘Neiges’ and ‘La Fournaise’ were named after the two volcanoes that gave birth to the island of ‘La Réunion’ which translates to ‘The Meeting’. In facts, Jonathan (IMANU) was born in Saint-Denis, capital of the island, and spent his first years there. I also had the opportunity to spend some time on the island when I was 8, because I have family there. So we chose to theme the release around this, something that tied us together before we could know each other.” Some would call it fate.

‘Neiges’ is an emotional cut that begins with an ethereal soundscape and lush textures before transitioning to a grittier sound near the thirty-five-second mark. A keen attention to detail from both makes ‘Neiges’ a beautifully conflicting track, as deep bass stabs are contrasted by angelic samples and an oddly soothing melody. The progression in energy is spine-chilling, with the second half showcasing the true genius of IMANU and The Caracal Project. In ‘La Fournaise,’ the producers tap josh pan for sinister vocals, layering them above their meticulous drum and bass production once again. Few can create such raw emotion with sound, but IMANU, The Caracal Project and josh pan have done so exquisitely while remaining true to their signature.

“Over the years, not many of our tracks have been remixed. With the end of Noisia nearby, we want to give our catalog to as many producers as possible. Allowing the music to echo and hear it’s resonance.”

Perhaps one of the only good things about the ongoing pandemic is the continuous delaying of the inevitable dismantling of Noisia. Meant to come to a close in 2020, Noisia have been keeping their last flame alive throughout the pandemic with releases such as ‘Supersonic (My Existence)‘ and through shows that have repeatedly been postponed. As the flame slowly starts to dwindle to mere nothingness, a new flicker of light has arrived in the form of unexpected remixes for a handful of Noisia tracks from a slew of incredible artists. Titled The Resonance I, the project sees nine talented artists offer their rendition of eight quintessential Noisia tracks from classic projects such as Split The Atom (Special Edition), Purpose, and more.

Honestly, Noisia could not have selected a better ensemble of artists to do their works justice. Malux kicks things off with a euphoric remix of ‘Could This Be,’ keeping this high-octane intensity of the original while adding his own distinct touch. IMANU comes next with a wicked take on ‘Incessant,’ demonstrating the artist’s keen attention to detail and mechanical precision with sound. Beefing up the middle of the remix pack are Levela with his take on ‘Stamp Out,’ The Caracal Project and Grey Code with their snappy flip of ‘Tommy’s Theme,’ Skylark with another heater sure to set dance floors ablaze, and Buunshin with an industrial-like manipulation of ‘Purpose.’ While the album leans heavily into drum and bass, Chee offers his unique halftime touch to ‘Reptilians’ with grueling sound design and pounding percussion. Finally, Posij lends an uplifting, club-ready hand to ‘Lekker,’ a piece released through one of Noisia’s aliases, Hustle Athletics.

And, if these remixes aren’t enough to brighten your week, the album title suggests there’s more to come. Don’t miss The Resonance I below.

For many years, one of the main staples for Zeds Dead has always been their ‘Catching Z’s’ installments. Containing some of the most chilled out and vibe-filled pleasures for the ears. Casting a calm and welcoming shadow on not only their art, but other heavy-hitting musicians as well. Giving them a true time to shine. But fast forward to 2021, where not only did they start their own chilled out label called Altered States, but they also released a timeless mixtape called Catching Z’s! A thirteen-piece work of art honoring the whole series in general while showcasing incredible and jaw-dropping new music. It’s easy to say fans from all over were ecstatic and covered in joy!

And now to push the vision and relaxing movement further, they’ve recruited a couple of incredible up-and-coming musicians to help remix notable tracks off the Catching Z’s mixtape! Artists such as IMANU, Quiet Bison, Pocket and even A-BO have all chimed in to take on this beautiful challenge. To evolve as creatives as well as paying homage to Zeds Dead’s life-changing mixes. So prepare to find surprises lurking around every corner. You won’t be expecting what’s to come!

The Catching Z’s (Remixes) is a pleasant fever dream come to life. A calm ocean flowing with bright and brilliant tones and rhythms. But what can fans expect through this soothing journey of sound? First up, Zeds Dead included an acoustic version of their notable track, ‘i think you’re cool’ featuring Jenna Pemkowski. Her light and airy vocals can fill any empty garden with pure flora. Letting off pure peace all around.

Then next up, we receive a truly unexpected collaboration remix. IMANU and Quiet Bison take the stage with their own bonded creation. If you love deep atmospheres and playful sound design, this one is right up your alley. Flipping the original into a glitchy house wonderland was nothing but genius and such a smart route to take. It really shines a light on both artists capabilities through somber tones. A plausible and enticing performance from both icons!

Right after, nonother than Pocket takes a shot at remixing the intoxicating original. But what’s so unique about this one is his flexibility within the spectrum. Taking the arrangement into his own hands, and giving it his own special and iconic flip. From a house-based section bringing trippy emotions to the mind, to a complete switch to a future garage paradise within the second chorus! Really taking you off guard and slapping a complete smile on your face. You’ll feel like you’re floating through the clouds within your own hallucination. Embracing every second of life to the fullest. Bravo on this one.

Finally, to end things on a very high note, A-BO jumps into the mix to bless our ears with his remix of ‘lost birds’ featuring Elliot Moss! With the original being relaxed and laid back, you won’t know what the artist will surprise you with. But hearing just the first second, you already know it’s going to be a good time. Transporting the audience onto an open rooftop looking over a glistening city in the night, the producer hits us with a funky house arrangement, blissful chord creations, and a wavy bass line. Working together to commemorate Zeds Dead’s impact on electronic music as well as his journey through time. It’s a remix you’ll no doubt have on repeat for years to come. Bringing nothing but positive and healing energy to anyone who comes in contact. A perfect way to conclude this EP.

Zeds Dead continue to change and push the scene into higher territories. Recognizing the current talent as well as paying respects to the underground. We’re stoked to hear where everyone goes next! But for now, make sure to go support these hard workers by streaming The Catching Z’s (Remixes) everywhere via Altered States!

Ladies and gentlemen, IMANU is back with another emotional expedition. This time, he’s taken on the challenge to flip ‘Obsession’ by RayRay and DJ SODA. With the original having a melodic and heavy tone, he immediately jumped to the heart-clenching portion and easily turned it into his own. IMANU has proven time and time again how versatile he is when creating his art. From lush and captivating atmospheres to glitch friendly sound design, he’s taken the industry by storm. Gaining a solid fan base who support him in each release. Waiting for what’s to come next. So have no fear, because his newest remix will leave you with a positive and energetic vibe.

Starting out with a clean and tasty reece style bass, it was inevitable IMANU was going to be drawn to the angelic vocal we heard in the original. By complimenting it to the highest, he created an arena that teleports the listener into the future. Experiencing wonders beyond belief. And once the verse kicks in, he adds a delicate and spacious melody to describe what’s in store for all of us. Making the listener even more excited and curious to hear where it goes.

We then hear a light buildup, preparing us for what’s to come. When finally, it all hits you in a gorgeous and jaw-dropping fashion. Right away, the chorus impacts your soul with a glitchy vocal lead, impactful drums and inspirational flare. Making the chills feel even colder as it takes over your mind. Simply mind-blowing listening to every second. The artist truly went all out on this one. His ability to shock his audience with an electrifying stasis makes his pieces truly remarkable. From beginning to end, you’ll have this remix on repeat for years to come.

IMANU is quite the musician. His skills continue to take him higher than ever. And we’re all excited to hear where he goes. Make sure to go support his work by streaming his remix of ‘Obsession’ below.

t1r has been a SoundCloud gem for years now. Hailing from Auckland, NZ, you know that he’s on the forward thinking trap and bass wave that we love at FUXWITHIT. He’s been putting out some remixes, flips, bootlegs, whatever you want to call them, and they’re all absolute fire (Peep his remix of Flume’s ‘Holdin On’). Today, t1r is back with another bootleg, of Imanu’s ‘nonplus,’ once again sending the track to the next level.

‘nonplus’ begins with epic pads that wash over the track, giving it an extreme sense of depth, but t1r quickly adds a snare build, and flips it into a much more breakneck speed than the original, giving it a more trap-like drum pattern as well. t1r really manages to let the original track have it’s space, while still having his own style shine through. The second drop is reminiscent of the first, with varying chords and rhythm to help set it apart, and the very last section is a beautiful ode to the original ‘nonplus’.

t1r continues to outdo himself on his remixes, and we can’t else to see what else he’s working on. Check out ‘nonplus’ below, and grab the free download from SoundCloud!
