In the depths of the SoundCloud underground, in the far left territory of experimental sounds, there is one name that continues to bring consistent quality. Boulder, Colorado based producer Oaklie Bull, better known as Indra is here to make music unlike anything ever heard before. He prides himself on not conforming to typical sound design structure and utilizes empty space to give his tracks a third dimension and maximizes his minimal layered bass formula. With over 20 tracks released, Indra continues the method to his madness in attempts to make his craft known. He has also had releases through multiple well known labels such as Don’t Die at Work, Crown Collective, Presently Lifted and more, as well as curating his own label The Nada Collective, nada meaning sound. In musical terms, nada is a sound known to please the mind and ears the instance it is heard. With all of this, Indra flexes some freeform wobbles in his latest release of ‘Retrospect‘.

This track is riddled with subtle complexity and deserves to be heard on a system that will pick up low ends to the fullest. This sub heavy focused song pushes out crunchy samples that shatter between each hit of bass. There is something extremely satisfying about the deep and dark minimal layers being exercised that will have listeners carrying a dirty look on their face and a slight nod of the head. Indra does a superb job at reducing sporadic chaos and keeping a clear tone that establishes a defined audible journey. Check it out below and keep an eye on Indra for future releases!

Coming out of Boulder, Colorado is Indra. Not your typical artist by any means, it’s clear even from his name. Indra is a Vedic deity known as the god of the heavens, lightning, thunder, storms, rains and river flows. This isn’t a moniker he randomly adopted, it’s actually his middle name, a fact which is less surprising given he was raised around Hindu temples doing meditation. Fittingly, his music possesses a near spiritual experimental vibe which is perfectly showcased on his newest release ‘Levitate’.

Anchored by an Alan Watts sample exploring LSD use, ‘Levitate’ is an absolute trip. Indra is no stranger to psychedelics and ‘Levitate’ allows listeners to feel the effects of a tab for three and half minutes. “I wanted listeners to feel surrounded by something completely different and take a flight into the space & time,” he tell us. The ever-progressing effort balances brain-melting sound design with wonky bass for a sound that’s sure to have you out of your body. Enjoy the experience below. ‘Levitate’ is out now, fittingly on Presently Lifted.
