Ivy Lab need no introduction. The London-based duo have been at the forefront of the bass music scene and beyond for years now, and have become expert curators both in terms of audio output and live events. Last week, Ivy Lab unveiled the newest chapter to their sonic expedition, namely the fourteen-track Infinite Falling Ground LP via their own Twenty Twenty London Recordings. Not that fans needed more proof, but the latest endeavour from the duo serves to further solidify them among the elite in the beat-making scene as they explore the multitude of intersections between hip hop and bass.

In all, Infinite Falling Ground spans just shy of fifty minutes, but it takes much more than that to fully appreciate the project as a whole. As I listened to the album on repeat over the last three days, I found something new to enjoy with each subsequent repetition. The album is extremely easy to listen to, but not in the plain-background-music type of way. It’s engulfing and intriguing, with a balance of uplifting tones and grungy cuts that flow seamlessly from start to finish.

‘Everythingmustchange,’ ‘Q.Nix,’ ‘NOVV’ and ‘Merlot’ should not be new to Ivy Lab fans, having been released as part of different projects in the past. However, their re-release and inclusion in Infinite Falling Ground provide a tasteful reminder of just how well Ivy Lab tunes age. Whether it’s dreamy lo-fi or sinister hip hop beats, the duo are able to craft tracks with an extended shelf life, attesting to their seasoned production mastery. As for the remainder of the songs, there is no doubt that each listener will find a few (or more) favourites, as the ensemble is just so exquisitely put together.

Talking about the formation of the project, Ivy Lab state, “In January 2022 under the cloud of both of our own distinct crises, we both revealed some deeply held secrets to one another about our habits. By March this LP was written.” Infinite Falling Ground is beautiful insight into this deeply personal moment for the duo. Dive in below.

Trampa‘s Disrespect LP released earlier this year was an exceptional foray into the origins of bass music, with the artist adding his own modern touch to various genres that have shaped much of today’s sound. Now, Trampa looks to give his project a new life in the form of a remix album, with LINK having already delivered a bass house take on ‘Generals,’ and Ivy Lab next to the plate with a swampy rendition of ‘All Night’ featuring Nolay. Yes, you read that correctly – Ivy Lab on Never Say Die.

While the original is a high-octane, bass-riddled brute that perfectly meshes industrial sounds with powerful vocals, Ivy Lab strip back the intensity without omitting their fair dosage of grungy bass. The soundtrack to exploring dark, grimy caves that are oozing with unknown creatures, Ivy Lab’s remix for ‘All Night’ is minimal yet sinister, transporting listeners to a world of ominous soundscapes. The remix is not a complete overhaul of the original, but Ivy Lab have transformed ‘All Night’ into a unique sonic experience, giving the track another life.

There aren’t many details about the rest of the Disrespect LP remixes, but we’re sure this Ivy Lab beast is going to keep you satisfied until we know more. Check it out below.

Last year we claimed r/trap’s BOOST TAPE 01 was the pinnacle of trap. A bar set immensely high by impeccable curation and the mix of legends and rising stars involved. With their follow-up BOOST TAPE 02 the expectations couldn’t be much higher, but I can assure you it delivers. 28 tracks of relentless heat from the likes of Acrillics, camoufly, Chee, Chromonicci, Dabow, Deffie, episcool, Giraffage, Great Dane, Ivy Lab, LYNY, Machine Drum, MadBliss x Keeth, Oakk, Rome In Silver, Salva, Slumberjack x Ren Zukii, and somehow more. Once again the Boost Gang brings us some of the best trap, bass and club music that we’re destined to receive this year. From front to back the compilation slaps but we had to highlight a few of our favourites.

Kicking off the project comes Acrillics’ ‘What Do You Want.’ It’s no secret we’ve been longtime fans and supporters and it’s always great to see the duo making big moves. Serving as a perfect introduction, it starts as a slow burner with emotive undertones before unveiling a bass-leaning trap nature. Blending feels with aggressive and powerful energy makes this a can’t miss.

Chromonicci has become renowned for his diversity, from future beat finesse to lofi chill tunes and trap slaps, he can do it all. With ‘Singularity’ he finds a perfect fusion of off-kilter future beats and the chest-pounding energy of raw trap. It’s smooth yet, banging. Experimental but approachable and dare I say… smooth. In short, it’s spectacular.

The stash of unreleased heat that Dabow is sitting on right now is absolutely insane. Any time we get one of his highly sought-after IDs for release we relish it. ‘Poder’ has been a staple in Dabow sets and mixes so it’s great to finally get the proper release. From the bent vocal loops, to ice-cold keys and the blistering brass, this is trap music at its best. People really need to stop sleeping on Dabow’s greatness.

Possibly the biggest surprise on the tape is Giraffage’s’ ‘idgaf.’ Based around the vocal “I don’t give a fuck,” this is a blistering banger here to set speakers ablaze. Booming bass, precise vocals chops, and an almost absurd party vibe make it undeniably infectious. It’s the type of banger you could see getting spun out in trap or bass house sets or serving as the perfect bridge between the genres in a setlist. I didn’t know Giraffage went this hard.

Other mid-to-late tape standouts include Great Dane’s ‘aya hua’ which fuses tribal and spiritual energy with some serious bump, LYNY’s bossed-up anthem ‘Stumble,’ and RamonPang’s beastly ‘Santoor Unkown.’

Last but not least I have to highlight Rome In Silver’s ‘Little Demons.’ I’ve been waiting for this one to drop since I included it as an ID in my Electric Hawk Takover Mix in early 2020. Electric basslines, swooning vocals, crisp claps and a forward-thinking soundscape are expertly intertwined. The drops are funky and inviting while remaining mean. It exemplifies the exceptional balance that Rome In Silver has managed to master.

BOOST TAPE 02 is everything you wanted and more. Stream the full project below and be sure to grab it on Bandcamp.

Throughout the years we’ve all come to love Ivy Lab for their relentlessly innovative music. This duo from London have grown accustomed to living on the fringes of bass music, drawing influences from all corner of bass music, these two have consistently found ways to push their sound forward. This musical dyad has become complete masters at sound design, from ambient synths to monstrous basses, the sounds of Ivy Lab have routinely become the benchmark for so many producers around the world.

2020 has been quite the year for these legends, as we’ve seen the release of three EP’s, each timeless in their own way. On top of this, we’ve seen Ivy Lab absolutely destroy a multitude of live streams throughout quarantine, including an unforgettable set at Digital Mirage. This time the duo return with yet again another EP, this time titled Blonde.

As with every other Ivy Lab release, ’Blonde’ puts these two’s versatility and creativeness on full display with every track. Starting off strong with ‘Husk’, we’re met with a barrage of gritty basses, spectral vocal chants, and off-kilter rhythms that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. A little over halfway, an ethereal R&B vocal takes center stage, offering much-welcomed contrast to the gritty tone of this track.

Moving on, we have the ghostly 808-heavy ‘Q.Nix.’ Beginning with minimal elements in the track, these two expertly build suspense throughout by slowly adding in more elements. Before you know it, you’re in a completely different soundscape from the one you started. One with eerie samples and chords with enough dissonance to cut through diamonds. This track is a true trip through the ether.

’Start The Clock’ begins with these out-of-this-world synths that seem to transform from a helicopter overhead to a colony of spiders rushing into your ears before being pulled back to reveal something fantastic. A true audio experience. It’s almost as if these two are painting pictures in your head with these mystifying sound designs.

Next up is ‘Gopher’, a tune that the trap community has come to love. First seeing the light of day on the Boost Tape 01 this summer, a fundraiser for The Movement For Black Lives, we’re so pleased to see this banger get a proper release. The focal point of this track is this hypnotic vocal chant combined with these bubbly synths and aggressive basses, all combined to give us this timeless tune.

Last but not least we have the title track, ‘Blonde.’ Right out the gate, we’re met with these muddy vocal samples combined with extremely dynamic basses that never seem to stay still. The second half of the track serves as the perfect end of the project, as each element is slowly stripped away until we’re left with nothing but silence.

You’d be a fool to not take a good dive into this one, check out the whole project below!

Sound. Look it up in the dictionary and you’ll see three Dutchman standing next to it. Thijs, Nik, and Martijn are Noisia, and Noisia is Sound. For twenty years, these three have been on a journey pushing the boundaries of what bass music can be, and in their wake have left nothing but inspiration for the underground. Last week they announced they would be bringing their joint project to a close at the end of 2020. Here at FUXWITHIT, we take pride in shinning the spotlight on truly creative and innovative artists from the underground, so before the underground kings take their victory lap, it’s time to pay tribute.

Starting from humble beginnings in Groningen, Holland the three high-school friends began making music in 2000 under their own individual aliases until 2003 which marks the arrival of the group. The 2000’s was the decade that built the foundation for the three. During this time the group landed their first few releases on major record labels including ’Tomahawk’ by Noisia & Mayhem on Nerve Recordings.

WIth major moment building into the current decade, Noisia hit a stride with the release of their debut album Split The Atom. This project was a sign of bigger things to come, as the album sported some of the group’s most recognizable songs like ‘Machine Gun’ and ‘ShellShock’ with Foreign Beggars. The discography becomes more impressive with their brilliant takes on classics like Skrillex’s ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ and The Prodigy’s ’Smack My Bitch Up.’ In 2016, the trio released their most recent and most complete project to date, Outer Edges.

Noisia’s impact on the underground bass music scene cannot be overstated. Their labels Division, Vision, and Invisible encompass a wide array of genres including drum and bass, instrumental hip-hop, and half-step. These labels include releases from some of FUXWITHIT’s favorites like Jon Casey, Tsuruda, and Ivy Lab. Starting in 2015, Noisia Radio has become one of the most recognizable radio shows for discovering new music. Giving us an hour of sounds from the underground every week.

As we all soak in the last 365 days of the sound that is Noisia, We must give credit where it’s due. This is so much bigger than bass music. For twenty years Thijs, Nik, and Martijn have sustained unrelenting originality and innovation that has not inspired the next generations of artists but reminded the industry that in the end, it’s all about the music. This is about three best friends selflessly creating music and that’s all its ever been. Goodbye person.

The London based halftime and future beats duo Ivy Lab have truly solidified their place atop the bass music scene with a massive start to 2019. Having come off a stellar 2018, with the release of their LP Death Don’t Always Taste Good, their collab with Two Fingers ‘Orange’ gave listeners a taste of their grimy side with a nasty sub-heavy beat earlier this month. On their new EP Stars, the duo slows it down to remind us of their true artistic range, taking us on a journey to the stars.

Stars is a project which feels meticulously put together, full of mesmerizing ambient synths and alluring vocal samples. The title track is true to the name as the listener feels as if they have just left earth’s orbit. It grabs your attention with a high-pitched vocal sample, looped to create the melody. Around the 15 second mark, an especially spazy drum pattern takes you on your ride to the stars. In ‘Betty White,’ their collab with Barclay Crenshaw, the duo guides us out the solar system with a funky space soundtrack full of trippy vocal samples and mystifying melodies. ‘When I Go’ takes on a nostalgic nature with the lyrics “When I go” being infinitely looped to truly leave the listener in a trance, accompanied with wavy synths. ‘All Day Swimming’ is the perfect ending to your journey, as the presence of a tribal rhythm is accompanied by spacey percussion elements. Ivy Lab shows us they can truly do it all, so make sure to throw this in your queue.

Ivy Lab, a London-based halftime and future beats project, launched into the scene in 2015 with their debut project 20/20 Volume One. Starting as a trio, the duo now consists of London drum and bass producers Stray and Sabre. The duo has recently hit a new stride with their recent releases, ‘Cake’ and ‘Jet Lag’, and continue to innovate the bass music scene with their experimental drum patterns and bone-crushing synths. On ‘Orange,’ Ivy Lab are joined by fellow London Based duo, Two Fingers.

‘Orange’ starts by leading you down a path of increasingly chaotic percussion elements alongside the presence of a menacing melody. At the forty-five second mark, ‘Orange’ sends you down a spiraling tunnel, starting with an eerie vocal sample that leads into a swinging beat with a truly sinister synth providing melodic support. Just as quickly as you fall down the tunnel, you emerge out of it, only to be dropped back in again around the two minutes and thirty second mark. This spine-chilling track takes familiar elements of instrumental hip-hop, and presents them in a fresh and exciting way. Don’t miss the chance to bless your ears with this one.

There’s nothing better than coming across a release that absolutely blows your mind. Finding an individual track that amazes is incredible enough, but a five track EP is something else. Enter Ivy Lab’s new release Peninsula. For those unfamiliar, Ivy Lab is the brainchild of London producers Sabre, Stray and Halogenix. Peninsula doesn’t just pull in listeners, it transports them into another dimension.

The title track feels like a distant alien race attempting to make contact with earth. The glitchiness is fine-tuned into muffled shouts and clear as day tribal chants. The result is a track that’s part futuristic and part ancient. ‘Magikess’ is a lesson in the dark arts. It feels like wondering through an abandon hospital on mescaline. ‘Thirsty’ switches the vibe, leveraging 90’s R&B samples, Rick Ross grunts and cavernous bass for a sound best described as space trap. ‘Eyes Down’ enters the realm of trip-hop with hazy loops and dirty distorted bass. Closing the project comes ‘Forex VIP’ a Pete Rock sampling skull-splitter that takes an already incredible EP to another galaxy.

If you love weird bass music, this may be the best EP you’ll hear all year. Stream Peninsula below.
