jELACEE is a true trap legend. As half of Stööki Sound he helped to define the genre with iconic tracks like ‘UPPERS,’ ‘Ball So Hard’ & ‘W2L (Welcome To London).’ After 7 years of touring the world and releasing countless incredible songs, the duo decided to part ways in 2019. Taking nearly two years away, the producer allowed the time off to mentally reset, relax and map out the plans for his reinvigorated solo project. In 2021 we’ve seen his diversity as an artist with the release of the wave-leaning ‘fEEL,’ the trappy ‘tROUBLE,’ and the house banger ‘tIMBER.’ Providing a deeper showcase into what jELACEE has to offer, we linked with the artist for an exclusive guest mix + interview. The mix spans genres and sounds and features a ton of FUXWITHIT favorites, while the interview dives into his time off, what to expect next, being an introverted artist, and more.

What should fans expect from the mix? What do you want listeners to take away from this one?

i’VE ALWAYS TRIED TO MAKE MIXES THAT TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY SO I HOPE THIS ATTEMPT SUCCEEDED AT THAT. I ALSO ENJOY SHOWCASING AND REIMAGINING MUSIC FROM OTHER ARTISTS THAT I’M FEELING RIGHT NOW RATHER THAN FOCUSING ON MY OWN MUSIC.

You took over a year off before fully relaunching the jELACEE project. Why the extended period of time? What were you up to during this time?

i WAS DOING MUSIC AND TOURING FOR NEARLY 8 YEARS STRAIGHT SO I NEEDED A HARD EARNED REST. IN THAT TIME I JUST FOCUSED ON LIVING LIFE, MY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH AND FIGURING OUT WHAT MY PLANS WE’RE FOR THE FUTURE OF MY SOLO ENDEAVOURS.

Your first three releases have all been solo works. Can we expect any collaborations from you in the near future?

yES.

How has the transition to becoming a solo artist been? What positives have you experienced? Any challenges that you didn’t expect?

i TRANSITIONED FROM A SOLO ARTIST, TO A DUO AND BACK TO SOLO. IT’S A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU’RE ALONE, BUT A WELCOMED ONE.

What’s the best thing you’ve done this year outside of music?

sTAYED HEALTHY.

You recently tweeted that you’re “SITTIN ON ONE OF THE HARDEST TRAP SONGS EVER MADE…” when can fans expect to hear it? What makes it so hard?

i’M NOT SURE YET. I DON’T WANT TO COMMIT TO A DATE AT THE MOMENT. BUT IT WILL COME. AND IT WILL BE WORTH THE WAIT. I’M NOT SURE HOW TO ANSWER WHAT MAKES IT SO HARD, BUT A SCREWFACE GETS ACTIVATED WHEN IT DROPS.

When we last spoke you said that the most difficult thing about touring was traveling. After a year plus of lockdowns do you miss traveling?

i DO AND I DON’T. I’VE QUITE ENJOYED BEING IN ONE PLACE, SEEING MY FAMILY REGULARLY AND HAVING SOME STABILITY IN MY LIFE. ON THE OTHER HAND, NOTHING BEATS THE EXCITEMENT OF GOING TO ANOTHER COUNTRY TO PLAY MUSIC, EAT NEW FOODS AND EXPLORE NEW LANDS.

In your most recent interview you mentioned being introverted but your persona as a rapper feels a lot more outgoing, confident and braggadocious. Is this a difficult balance to find?

nOT REALLY. I’M NATURALLY CONFIDENT. I JUST ENJOY MY OWN COMPANY ALOT AND FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WHEN I’M LOCKED IN BY MYSELF. HOWEVER, I CAN FLICK THE SWITCH PRETTY EASILY.

You’ve been dropping a wide range of sounds from wave to trap and bass house. Can we expect any grime from you?

What do you have planned for the rest of the year?

i’M STILL IN THE PHASE OF MY SOLO CAREER OF FINDING MY SOUND AND FIGURING OUT HOW I WANT TO PRESENT IT. I’LL BE CONTINUING TO DO SO AND KEEP RELEASING MUSIC/MIXES.

jELACEE Is Flexing All The Right Vibes With ‘tIMBER’

jELACEE is on fire and there is no better way to put it. After parting ways from Stooki Sound, the entire fanbase was awaiting jELACEE to release his solo music, and let me tell you there is only one way to describe it. Absolutely life-changing. Experimentation definitely runs in his blood and that is a fact with the series of eclectic releases he has put out so far, but what if we told you he is heating 2021 up to another notch with a spin on hip-hop and bass house music. Dropping his very own bars alongside his impeccable production skills, ‘tIMBER’ represents his artistic wave to explore the realms of any genre he is vibing with and flex it to the max on the dancefloor.

With a backdrop of deep drum claps and chiming instrumentals, jELACEE immediately spits the incredible bars with no slowing down in sight. Clearing riding his own wave in the scene, this talented artist takes listeners on an energized build-up fueled with distortion and wonky frequencies. Easily a dance-floor heater, jELACEE makes no mistake to drop a bass-infused bounce that seamlessly shifts levels into all those vibes we need this summer. If one thing is for sure, jELACEE is making his mark and we could not be more proud of the outcome.

PREMIERE: jELACEE Brings It Back With M.I.A. Bootleg, ‘tROUBLE’

Get ready to smoke up because this song’s a loosie. jELACEE made his big return to dropping music last week with ‘fEEL’ and told us that we can expect a new song every month. We didn’t know it’d be this quick, but we’re not complaining. For his newest track, jELACEE remixes M.I.A.’s ‘Double Bubble Trouble,’ which actually pays homage to Shampoo’s 1994 ‘Trouble.’ All three artists also happen to be from the UK… coincidence?

The British beatsmith doesn’t fail to stay true to M.I.A.’s reggae, kuduro, and trap influence, but his contribution of intricate sound design can’t be missed. As the rapper recites the iconic lyric, “Uh oh, you’re in trouble”, jELACEE adds electronic elements that bring the track to the next level. Adrenaline-charged hi-hats taunt us to keep listening as stratospheric synths and powerful percussions frame M.I.A.’s chopped-up vocals and tantalizing hook. Similar to his comeback song, ‘tROUBLE’ ends with jELACEE’s producer tag. (Fun Mother’s Day fact: the vocal sample is actually jELACEE’s mom. Where are her royalties????)

jELACEE Returns With ‘fEEL’

Ever since Stooki Sound announced that they would be going their separate ways in 2019, we’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of solo music from jELACEE. The wait is finally over as jELACEE unveils his first post Stooki Sound single ‘fEEL.’ Aptly titled, the track is an emotional electronic journey. The introduction is mesmerizing and alluring, pulling you in with each passing bar. The vibe is ominous but emotive. The synths pack an epicness while the low end hits just right. Add in the punchy percussion and anchoring vocal and it’s a wrap. While I was expecting some hard-hitting trap or maybe even grime from jELACEE, ‘fEEL’ delivers a wave-leaning energy. That said, I’m far from disappointed. The track is a strong statement that jELACEE is back and we can’t wait to hear what’s next.

Godlands Flexes Incredible Versatility In ‘4 U ONLY’ EP

What started as a single release on Dim Mak‘s New Noise imprint almost a full year ago has now evolved into a fully fledged monster of an EP. After signing to the esteemed label last year, Adelaide’s Godlands has been hard at work concocting a bass-centric project sure to please a wide array of electronic music fans. Coming to fruition as the 4 U ONLY EP, it’s safe to say that Godlands and her fellow collaborators are artists to put on your radar immediately.

In project’s first and newest track, Godlands taps fellow trap queen JEANIE and Stööki Sound’s Jelacee in ‘No Stress’ to create a grime-infused anthem. Blaring horns and crisp vocal flow shine in the introduction before the talented producers unleash chaos in the form of metallic, mechanical synths and a rugged yet electrifying sub bass. In ‘Lowkey‘ alongside NXSTY, simplicity is the theme without escaping the grittiness and heaviness of wonky, experimental trap. Continuing with the diversity in ‘2 Clips’ and ‘Back Now,’ Godlands flexes further trap versatility and bass house ingenuity, respectively. To cap it all off, ‘Valour’ featuring BOI makes use of powerful, anthemic vocals and blurs the lines between future bass and trap to raise hell in typical Godlands fashion one last time.
