Last night really felt like a full-circle moment. Two artists that we have been supporting for over four years came to Toronto for one night of exquisite vibes. Yes, that sounds cheesy, but it’s an accurate way to describe Laxcity‘s Mini Canadian Tour stop in Toronto, where JKuch served as an opening act. The experience itself was amazing from start to finish, and we thought it would be appropriate to briefly describe the night to inspire our followers to catch a Laxcity or JKuch show whenever they can.

First off, when I saw that Laxcity was coming to Toronto, I immediately copped two tickets. I didn’t ask a friend, or make a plan for the night, but I knew that I had to attend and that I could convince someone to come along for the journey. To my great surprise, tickets were only $10, which is probably the cheapest show I’ve ever attended in Toronto. Amazing.

I then convinced a long-time friend who just happened to be in town this week to come to the show and, after catching up over a couple of drinks before the event, we found our way to the venue with just a couple of minutes to spare before JKuch came on. The venue itself was unlike anything I had ever experienced – it was a small, art studio-like room with an awesome outdoor patio that definitely does not only serve as a concert venue. No backstage, no VIP section… the IN Lifestyle Event Space allowed fans and artists the mingle during the show, and provided a welcome atmosphere to all. JKuch ended up playing just short of two hours, with originals lining the vast majority of his set. At one point, he even said something along the lines of “I’m running out of originals to play,” and the crowd laughed and soon danced along to what followed. The intimacy of the venue allowed the artists to connect with the fans, and allowed the fans to realize how chill and approachable their favourite artists can be.

Shortly after the sunset, Laxcity jumped behind the decks for his official Toronto debut. Despite not being a massive venue, one could tell that every single attendee was there because they were fans of Laxcity and JKuch, and it showed in the energy of crowd. This wasn’t your random Thursday night event where drunk people randomly stumbled upon – it was an intimate gathering of people who liked the artists. This resulted in an incredible energy for the duration of Laxcity’s set, as fans could enjoy the the high-intensity drops just as much as the slower, more melodic interludes. Along with a ton of originals, there was no shortage of Moore Kismet support interlaced within the more lively sections of Laxcity’s set, and the artist was able to captivate the crowd’s attention with ease. From his older material, to unreleased gems, to tracks from his good friends, Laxcity impressed from start to finish, and his entire set felt like a blissful dream.

To top it all off, Laxcity et al. dropped by my place today to deliver a signed poster just to say thanks for attending. This experience single-handedly revived my passion for live music, and writing about it – everyone responsible for this Mini Canadian Tour deserves all the praise in the world. Laxcity, JKuch and their teams curated a night for the books, and the artists further demonstrated why they have earned the respect of so many through their craft.

Shedding a light on the world with brand new sounds and flows, JKuch and Twnty8 bless their listeners with ‘Luna.’ The fourth single off of JKuch’s brand new album, Specter’s Garden. A continuous body of work that keeps on giving. Completely driving electronic music in the right direction. Redefining reality and forming a wider path of success for the artist. Overcoming new challenges while bringing new qualities to the table. This specific track is truly one of a kind. Its nature and storytelling alone will whisk you off your feet. Resulting in some of his best work to date. And to have Twnty8, a part of this bigger picture is beautiful and inspiring in every aspect.

JKuch has been working day and night to prepare for these special moments. Honing in on old and new skills to produce only the highest quality of work for himself as well as his audience. The forward-thinking icon always knows how to cater to different listeners within the spectrum. And being a producer and singer/songwriter completely amps up his abilities completely. Exposing his sheer raw talent with each release left and right. From teaming up with Phuture Collective and Subsidia, to self-releasing far-out compositions, the ideas are endless with this madman. Separating his style from the rest, and being completely wrapped in originality. So you definitely won’t want to miss out on this new single, because he’s pushing even harder than ever with this latest group of gems.

‘Luna’ is a spiritual and soothing essence of grace. Captivating your soul with gentle frequencies, vocals, and a colorful aura surrounding the track itself. This one really honors his signature style while making room for other brightening qualities. His well-known range through the voice is like no other. The soft and powerful tones completely calm the mind while Twnty8 throws in pure attitude and grit. Showcasing how unique and well-balanced everything sounds. Coming together as one for all to enjoy. From crisp and groovy drums to his metallic sound design, this has a little bit of everything for everyone. We’re very excited to hear what he brings next. But for now, make sure to support them both by streaming ‘Luna.’

Ever since I discovered Jkuch‘s unique style of music, I have been continuously blown away by how innovative and fresh each new track he puts out is, and his production truly puts him in a league of his own. With releases on Subsidia, Phuture Collective, and Night Owl Collective, JKuch has proven that he is capable of hitting a wide range of sounds, styles, and delivering emotional tracks in a manner very few producers have done before. Today, JKuch is dropping a brand new emotional rollercoaster, titled ‘Little Bamboo’ ft. QUO, where he continues to blow away audiences.

‘Little Bamboo’ begins with JKuch’s own vocals, which I need to say are spot on and to have a producer perform their own vocals really adds depth to the track. The lyrics of ‘Little Bamboo’ are extremely moving and feel very personal, like JKuch is sharing a part of his soul and story, and QUO’s verse and background vocals are absolutely breathtaking and so soft and smooth, the lyrics just melt away from his mouth. The way JKuch manages to mix pop with electronic on ‘Little Bamboo’ is truly magical and creates a special union between the two genres that I didn’t think could exist. The production is typical JKuch; slightly wonky, yet carrying an insane amount of emotion through the melody, and nobody can do it as well as he does. JKuch has once again delivered a track that has me head over heels before I even finish my first listen.

Check out ‘Little Bamboo’ ft. QUO below, and be sure to keep an eye on JKuch in the future.

Jkuch has become one of my favorite artists ever since I discovered him in late 2019. The way he manages to fuse melodic future bass and weird, aggressive kitchen trap is absolutely mesmerizing, and the emotional weight in each of his tracks is staggering. Jkuch is a producer that I recognize instantly due to the intensity of his tracks and sound design choices, and he really stands out from the rest of the crowd in terms of his production. Today, Jkuch returns with his first remix of 2021, which is an ‘Underdog’ remix for L*O*J, where Jkuch shows that he’s anything but.

The original ‘Underdog‘ by L*O*J is a thick, bass-heavy track, and Jkuch decides to switch it up right from the start. Giving his remix of ‘Underdog’ a more majestic approach, with fantastical keys and a filtered arp that slowly rises, Jkuch lifts the track in intensity until it erupts into a chorus of large, orchestral, saw wave synths that tear into your speakers and heart at the same time. The emotionally charged synth is something Jkuch has perfected and he continues to put it on full display on the second drop, as he lasers his way through with quick stabs that gradually shift in sound. A Jkuch remix of an L*O*J track is something I never would have considered, but damn, am I glad it happened and we’re eagerly awaiting to see what Jkuch drops next.

This week, we’ve received a special release from artist JKuch. If you’re not already familiar, this is a name you’ll want to remember. His track ‘Voyager 3’ is out now on Spotify, SoundCloud and more. In the past, his art has consisted of lush and glitchy sound design, along with atmospheres that will take you into another realm. His remix of VALENTINE & 4AM’s song called ‘Us’ took his audience by storm. Even before he’s managed to create a whole new dimension for himself. Having released on labels such as Phuture Collective and Surreal, there’s no telling where you’ll see him next. Let’s talk about the track itself and its memorable characteristics.

‘Voyager 3’ opens with some dreamy synths and piano that will take your breath away. Tuning harmonies are then layered delicately for the listener. His way of creating a theatrical entrance and buildup is astonishing. It truly makes you feel like you’re floating above the stars.

The drop consists of glitchy and playful melodies in the form of a bouncy rhythm that will make you bob your head for days. Truly hypnotizing. Then his breakdown includes an impactful piano part along with some soft but impactful sounds. After, he just hits us with the second half that will leave the listener speechless. His interpretation of the future bass genre will keep it stronger than ever. The chords are fresh along with the arrangement they’re in.

Finally, he leads us out with a vocal performance that’s soothing and calm to the ear. He sings about a once memorable friend and lover. It tugs at the heartstrings and leaves you thinking. Overall, this song has so much heart and soul to it. You can truly hear the amount of talent and effort he put into this one. We highly suggest checking it out, along with his past pieces. Make sure to support this talented musician by streaming ‘Voyager 3’ below.

The underground experimental trap scene just wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for Josh Kucharczak, also known by his lively production alias JKuch. The Buffalo, New York producer has been simmering in the underbelly of the SoundCloud community for years now, but has had his last several releases garner major notoriety and wide-reaching support throughout the industry. Now, he’s used the recent spare down-time to create heaps of new music, and also be the 110th installment in our guest mix & interview series. Featuring a mix full of tracks from the likes of G Jones, Protial, Tek Genesis, and more, this is not a mix to be missed! Check out the interview and mix in full for yourself below!

What’s the bass music culture like in Buffalo?

It’s very big on dubstep and house music. It’s a small enough EDM scene here that I feel musicians can throw good shows for the most part. Buffalo has a few really big colleges and there are a lot of students that come from NYC to go to school here which is a great opportunity to pull in new audiences.

You have a very distinct bounciness to your tracks that really makes them stand out. How do you achieve that consistently?

I’m not really sure about a specific bounciness. I usually just try different types of rhythms and patterns, I don’t really have a specific technique behind it.

What non-music activities are you doing to stay busy during these times?

Mostly spending time with my grandfather who I live with. If not that I’d be taking classes on production/vocals or playing my xbox. I also just started watching Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure a few days ago.

Just want to see more unique music I guess and see people with their own style. I find a lot of that already to be honest but it’s always good to have more.

What do you believe is most important right now in the music community?

Hmm I’m not really sure. Just want to see more unique music I guess and see people with their own style. I find a lot of that already to be honest but it’s always good to have more.

Do you have any upcoming live streams planned?

I don’t want to say too much just because I really am trying to get it all situated and every time I have tried streaming I get disconnected quite a bit. I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up if my set up won’t really let me. Hopefully soon I’ll try messing in twitch and just do some production for people to watch.

Have you had any issues staying productive and motivated during the quarantine?

No actually I’m very fortunate to be in a position where I can work on music so much more now. I’ve been trying to make it a routine to work on music as much as I can.

If you could go anywhere when quarantine is over, what would be the first place you’d visit and why?

I’d go to Florida where I’m originally from just because I was supposed to visit my parents this year already so I need to see them when I can.

Any big upcoming releases that you’d like to talk about today?

I have two songs coming out this month one being self released and a day after is a track on Night Owl Collective’s Feel Trip Vol 3.

I happen to know a lot of the musicians which makes it special as well.

Tell us about the mix you prepared for us today!

It is a mix of tracks that have helped inspire some of my music. Mostly experimental trap. I happen to know a lot of the musicians which makes it special as well.

Tracklist:

JKuch is one of my favorite producers that has recently shown up on the radar. He has the Midas touch, because everything he touches turns to gold. For example, peep his jaw-dropping remix of Tobi Lou’s ‘Theme Music,’ or T-E-E-D’s ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’ where he does his own vocals. JKuch brings an eclectic energy, heavy melodic vibes, and a rich atmosphere to all of his productions, and he already has a thick discography for you to immerse yourself in. Today, he’s adding another track to his collection, which is the first track on Phuture Collective’s new issue sixteen compilation.

Titled ‘Zest’, JKuch begins the track with a warm atmosphere and ethereal vocals that give way to a catchy melody paired over a thick, gritty wobbling bass that rocks you back and forth. JKuch really flexes his versatility with a beautiful, uplifting melodic section that lasts a few bars before you’re dropped into an even filthier drop than the first, as he sends you twisting down a rabbit hole. JKuch has a tendency to put 3 drops in his tracks and they’re sometimes my favorite drops in the whole track, which may be the case on ‘Zest’, where he brings a more emotional side to the end of the track. With smooth vocals, JKuch lays down a heavy groove and gives us a strong outro for a journey of a track.

Listen to JKuch’s ‘Zest’ below:

JKuch never ceases to impress while pursuing an ongoing path to innovation. Despite being known for his vibrant take on future bass that never grows stale, the talented artist has dazzled as of late with the highly-experimental ‘CARBON‘ along side thook and the ethereal, uplifting ‘New Year,’ to name a few.

With his second release of the year, JKuch continues to display an unparalleled ingenuity with ‘Storm.’ Difficult to classify due to its diverse textures and puzzling sounds, ‘Storm’ encompasses both the calm before the storm and the uproar that the event causes. The track builds gradually, building a sense of urgency within listeners before the climax hits at the seventy-second mark. Gritty yet melodic, the collision of beauty and bass is flawlessly executed by JKuch, with this contrast only growing as the track progresses. Regardless of this clash of sounds, ‘Storm’ naturally retains a soothing tone while simultaneously being a banger.

With the promise of even more to come, we’re excited about what the future holds for JKuch. Don’t miss ‘Storm’ below.

As one of the most experimental tracks of the year, ‘CARBON’ starts off with a looming soundscape before an intergalactic bass that cannot be appreciated with laptop speakers comes to light. Some of thook’s influence makes itself heard around 45 seconds in through a real dystopian aura, but JKuch’s helping hand doesn’t go unnoticed as the ingenuity behind this track never ends. Minimal yet never lacking in flow, ‘CARBON’ is a bass heater suited for deep, dark clubs. Don’t miss it below.

Joshua Kucharczak, better known as JKuch, first popped up on our radar with his wildly entertaining remix of ‘Us’ by VALENTINE and 4AM. In a sea filled with repetitive future bass and Flume copycats, JKuch has continuously proven that his take on the genre is unique with quirky chord arrangements and captivating melodies. Recently, the skilled producer has explored the realms of hip-hop and trap, showcasing his ability to stay true to his distinct sound while combining it with slightly darker undertones.

Yesterday, JKuch announced he was moving away from friends and family to pursue his music full-time, and he accompanied this statement with a brand new single titled ‘Bronte’. “This is a very meaningful track for me for I am moving away to Buffalo, NY / Toronto area to find better opportunity with my music,” Kucharczak expresses regarding his latest track. With productions such as ‘Bronte’ (and many others) under his belt, there’s no doubt he will be successful in this musical pursuit. In ‘Bronte’, JKuch introduces s. lyre’s soothing vocals with an elegant soundscape before bringing listeners on an emotional roller coaster of a drop, where glittery plucks and lustrous synths shine. The second drop is an energetic up in tempo that perfectly rounds out the powerful track.

We wish JKuch all the best on his new journey. Check out ‘Bronte’ below!
