As avid supporters of Akeos since their early releases, it’s difficult to come up with words that haven’t been said to praise their continuous innovation through the wide realm of bass music. Every new track is a step forward for the Pennsylvania-based artist, and that’s saying a lot given the extraordinary quantity of material coming out on a regular basis. Just when we thought the list of accolades from the talented producer would start to plateau, Akeos is now back with perhaps their biggest accomplishment to date: curating the third installment of Never Say Die: Black Label‘s Black Ops XL compilation – a feat only accomplished by Aweminus and Blankface & SVGMAZE in the past.

With the impressive 45-minute mix hitting SoundCloud last week, a ton of hype was created surrounding the contributors to the compilation, with a few individual tracks appearing on the platform this week ahead of the project’s full release on Friday. Today, we have the extreme honour of premiering ‘Voltage Disk,’ a massive collaboration between the Akeos and JOOL. The latter has also been having himself quite the year, with releases on Never Say Die: Black Label, Circus Records and Odio Records, as well as collaborations with Hukae, Megalodon and WHALES to name a few, thus this joining of forces is not entirely out of the blue.

‘Voltage Disk’ is a menacing combination of Akeos and JOOL’s sounds. The introduction is quintessential Akeos, with a frantic, unnerving essence created in its early seconds. An insurmountable tension leads listeners to the drops that are equally as chaotic as they are mechanical and meticulous in their construction. A true display of grueling sound design, ‘Voltage Disk’ is among the standouts from Black Ops XL III, so stick around for the second half of the track to be further impressed by Akeos and JOOL.

Using music as a bridge to span the length of the Pacific Ocean, Los Angeles’s JOOL and Melbourne, Australia’s Skrybe have come together for their first big-time collaboration out on London’s Never Say Die Black Label. Jool’s 2020 has already been one of major success, with massive collaborations with the likes of Megalodon and Hukae under his belt. Skrybe has been consistently simmering in the underbelly of the dubstep community, but now it seems it’s his time to boil over the top. Putting their heads together for the first time, they’ve come out of the lab with a brutal weapon of audio delight in the form of ‘Aquila.’

Giving off a distinctly foreign vibe from the very beginning, you’ll instantly be transported from your humble abode to a far away land where bass music rules the land. With gritty, devastating works being in intense demand, Jool and Skrybe thoroughly deliver. The first drop is immaculately crunchy and sets the stage perfectly for the quick build into absolute evisceration that is the second deluge of grime. Where the first drop is focused and punchy, the second is like a nuclear bomb exploding, with unparalleled thickness and damage. The finale finds a perfect middle ground, taking elements from both the other drops and creating a true beastly combination. This is absolutely not one to miss if you’re a fan of ludicrously heavy dubstep. Check out ‘Aquila’ for yourself below!
